Chapter 18

The chapter begins with Sugishita reflecting on his conversation with his grandfather. Our boy has truly begun to reflect on many things, and his world has expanded beyond the confines of Ume. I’m so glad that his world is no longer built solely on Umemiya, that he’s firmly resolved to evolve.
Before the storm began, Sakura and the others were enjoying a peaceful time in the park, where Kiryu and Nirei seemed more like brothers to me. Somewhere in the city, members of that gang had already found Momijikawa and were leading him to some building. I was surprised that Momijikawa voluntarily went with them; he didn’t even consider that they weren’t taking him for a peaceful conversation.
Luckily, Sakura and the other first years learned of this and went to rescue him. Then, Sugishita arrived with not-so-great news about Momijikawa’s grandmother’s condition… I sincerely hope she’ll be okay, at least for now.
The poor guy has already lost most of his family, and if he loses his only relative, I’m afraid Momijikawa will break down in grief and might do something irreparable…
As for saving Momijikawa, I had a thought today: what if the gang leader, during the skirmish, becomes interested in Sakura and switches his attention to him instead of Momijikawa?
Then we can stop worrying about the poor guy and start praying for Sakura. Knowing our kitten, he’ll definitely prevail. Not right away, of course, but he’ll definitely win.
