Isara sat beside Alarion in the quiet library, his hand resting gently over hers. The scent of old books and leather surrounded them, cocooning them in a world that only belonged to them. She looked up at him, her eyes soft. “Why do you always seem so distant? Is something wrong?” Alarion’s lips curved into a faint, secret smile. “I carry burdens, my love. Burdens I cannot share. But you—your heart, your light—are my strength.” She squeezed his hand, unaware of the rumors and fears whispered just beyond their walls. In this moment, their love was untouched by shadows.
