«The Chronicles of Narnia». Mr. Tumnus. Girl friend (#4)

Settings
Notes:
Imagine that you were a dryad and a girl friend of Mr. Tumnus. You were also in love with him. *** "Are you okay?" you touched his shoulder, looking at him worriedly. Tumnus turned around, catching your eye and forced a smile. "Yes, I..." he waved his hand vaguely, and then shook his head from side to side, "don't worry," he tried to calm you down, but you just got more and more worried. "Is that the White Witch?" you suddenly became gloomy, your attentive gaze clung to the smallest changes in his face: there were dark bags under his eyes, his haggard face was tired, and most importantly, fear appeared in his eyes. He's never been afraid of anyone, not even a Witch, which is amazing, but now… He shook his head too fast for you to take it at face value. "No, it's... it's..." he stuttered, apparently convulsively thinking about what to say to you. You looked at him expectantly for a couple of minutes, he threw panicked glances at you, and then, finally, Tumnus exhaled, as if giving up. "Just be very careful, okay? The walls have ears too. You never know who can hear you," he warned you. You nodded automatically, and then suddenly thought about these words of his. Anxiety squeezed your heart, but you drove it away as best you could. Until it was confirmed, he's your friend, you should have asked him directly. "You..." you swallowed, unable to believe that you would say such a ridiculous thing to your friend, "you ... work for the White Witch?.." you carefully looked into his eyes, trying not to miss the slightest emotion. But it was he who lowered his eyes. Shamefacedly, as if trying to hide. And then it finally dawned on you. "The Great Lion," you whispered faintly, rapidly turning pale and gasping convulsively. Tumnus shook his head and rushed to you. "She... I... I didn't mean to... the law says that if we help bring the kings and queens to her, she will reward us," he stammered. "You know she's lying, right?" you smiled bitterly, shaking your head. "I perfectly understand why you are afraid of her, but she is only afraid of being overthrown." "I met a girl, Lucy," Tumnus nodded to you, "she's a human." "Have you seen kings and queens?" you're frowning. "Yes," he bit his lip, "well ... I only saw Lucy," he explained, there was warmth in his voice, "she is good and kind." A wolf howled nearby. "You have to go," the faun suddenly fussed, "go away, now, please," he pleaded. You tried to protest, but he shook his head. "Not now, please, not now," Tumnus said quickly. "And give it to the Beaver," he shoved a red handkerchief into your hand, and then literally pushed you out the door, "go away," a short order rushed after you, and then the door closed. *** You went to the Beavers and spent some time with them. You learned from Mr. Beaver that before Tumnus was captured, he told Mr. Beaver, his friend, about Lucy's arrival in Narnia, and also gave you the handkerchief she originally gave him to show Pevensey that the Beavers and you were really her friends. He also asked him to find Lucy because Tumnus trusted her as much as she trusted him. This situation only bothered you. You didn't really want to be a potential victim of the White Witch's wrath. But on the other hand, your friend was also in danger… When the Beaver went to investigate, and then returned with people, you immediately realized who they were. "Are you Lucy?" you came up to the smallest girl. Her brothers and sister must have looked at you with apprehension. "Yes, and you?" she smiled at you, despite the sadness in her eyes. "My name is Y/N. Tumnus is my friend. He mentioned that he met you. Please tell me what happened," you asked, carefully leaning towards her, trying to be on the same level with Lucy. "Mr. Tumnus helped me escape through the Wardrobe to Earth, home, away from the Witch," the girl said seriously, looking straight into your eyes, "then I came to him one more time, but he was fine, I swear!" she chattered. "Hush, hush," you sat down and put your hands on her shoulders in a soothing gesture, "I believe you," you barely smiled at the girl. She looked into your eyes, smiled weakly in response and, exhaling, continued: "My brother... my brother was here," she paused, looking back at the dark—haired boy, apparently, it was about him that they were talking, "I wanted to introduce my family to Mr. Tumnus, but no one believed me, and then Edmund turned up here. But when Peter and Susan came here with us, Mr. Tumnus was no longer there," she finished sadly, "the house was trashed and this note was left there," she handed you a piece of paper, you picked it up and read it to yourself: "The faun Tumnus is accused of treacherous treason to Her Imperial Majesty Jadis, Queen of Narnia, for communicating with her enemies, people. Signed Maugrim, Captain of the Secret Police, GLORY TO THE QUEEN!". With each word you read, your eyes filled with fear more and more. You shook your head. "No, no, no! Oh, Great Aslan," you whispered faintly, unable to believe that this really happened. "Who is this?" a tall blond guy asked you, and to your surprised look he explained, "Aslan." You exchanged surprised glances with the Beavers, and then offered, lowering your voice: "Let's go inside, please." Everyone except Lucy looked at you incredulously, and she raised her head, looked around and quietly exhaled: "The trees... are listening..." she actually finished with her lips, and then looked at you. You just nodded in response. She pulled her companions with her and disappeared into the beaver house. You entered the house after Edmund, who was looking around too suspiciously, along with Mr. Beaver, who stayed for a while. *** You didn't stay in the beaver house for long because Pevensey was being chased, so soon you all had to run away from the wolves that were sent by the Witch. *** In the end, you met Aslan in his camp, where all his supporters gathered, or most of them, as far as you could tell. When Edmund escaped from the Witch's captivity, finally realizing what she really was, his brother and sisters were very happy to see him. But this could not cancel the fact that he betrayed them for sweets, so the camp residents treated him with caution and distrust. A little later, the Witch arrived at the camp and demanded Edmund's blood because of his betrayal. Aslan managed to negotiate with the Sorceress about another payment, so he went to her in the middle of the night, and you, along with Lucy and Susan, followed him. The fact that he will become a victim, you realized when you saw the Stone Table. You knew you couldn't stop it, so you just tried to support him in his decision, even though it was very, very difficult to do. After the Witch cut his mane, put a muzzle on him, and then killed him along with his supporters, the three of you, Lucy and Susan sat quietly like mice, because Lucy and Susan promised him that they would stay away from this and did not want to inadvertently betray themselves to the Witch. You and the girls stayed with Aslan's body until dawn. When Susan finally decided to leave, you heard a loud crack behind you. Turning around, you saw a very lively Aslan, who smiled gently. He said that he decided to sacrifice himself because he knew that if someone who is innocent goes to sacrifice, then death will retreat before him, and thus saved Edmund. Then you decided to go to the Jadis Ice Palace to gather more supporters for Peter and the Narnian army. *** Jadis turned him to stone. You covered your mouth with your hand, looking only at Tumnus. It didn't fit in your head how it was possible to turn living beings into stones? They were alive, friends, loved, breathed, and then someone a witch decided turn them into stones (for what, for disobedience and non-compliance with the laws established by her?) Aslan came up to you with Lucy and Susan. "Can you save him?" you looked at the Great Lion. He nodded majestically, smiled at you and approached the stone statue of Tumnus, breathing on it. The moments dragged on and it seemed like nothing was happening, but then you heard the stones falling off Tumnus' skin. There was a groan and a long, heavy breath, and then he began to breathe. Lucy immediately appeared next to him and hugged him, and then introduced him to her sister, who, in turn, embraced them both in her arms. You blinked, trying to hold back the tears, and as soon as Lucy and Susan released him and stepped back a little, you approached Tumnus and hugged him. He hugged you back with relief. "Are you okay?" he asked you quietly. "I'm fine, I'm fine," you whispered back, smiling, stroking his hair with one hand while removing some small stones. He exhaled as if he hadn't been breathing all this time, and then probably suddenly remembered that you weren't alone and raised his head, looking into the eyes of Lucy and Susan. "Thank you," he smiled. You took a couple of steps back and turned around. Lucy ran over and hugged him again. "Thanks to Aslan, it was he who was able to reverse the spell of Jadis," she said, then went up to her sister, gave her a hand and they ran away together after the Great Lion. While Aslan was returning the rest of the Narnians to their original state, you followed him, trying to quickly bring the newcomers up to speed. * When he finally finished, you returned to the battlefield. As a dryad, you could use the powers of Earth, Air and Water, as well as draw it from trees, which you used. Your only weakness was the tree you were connected to — if it was destroyed, you would die — but you knew that if it withstood the Eternal Winter of Queen Jadis, then it would definitely be fine now. Who would think of destroying ordinary trees? That's why you were calm and helped your friends and allies with everything you could. You saw Aslan rush to the White Witch, and then, when he moved away, you noticed her torn body and blood on the ground. And then, for the first time in a long time, you allowed yourself to believe that everything would be fine. *** Tumnus remained a close friend of the four Pevensey monarchs throughout the Golden Age. Lucy also asked you, too, if you are not constantly in the palace, then at least sometimes drop in to visit them. You thought about it for several hours while the coronation ceremony of the new monarchs and the subsequent celebration in their honor were taking place in the palace. In the end, you agreed with the girl's request, and while happy Lucy ran away to tell her brothers and sister about it, you thought that in this situation you might see Tumnus much more often than usual. The thought made you smile. "Are you okay?" Tumnus found you on the balcony of the palace, where you and Lucy were talking earlier. You turned to him and smiled. "Of course, I'm fine," you slowly gave him a careful look, "and how do you feel?" you looked into his eyes. "Not as bad as it could have been after I was frozen alive and then thawed," he shrugged and grinned, walking up to the parapet and leaning on it with his hands. "I'm seriously asking" you shook your head, closing your eyes and sighing heavily. He looked at you and his gaze softened. "I'm fine," he said softly and softly, looking into your eyes. You looked at him again, and then slowly nodded. "Okay," he barely smiled at you and you mirrored his smile. "Thank you," Tumnus said suddenly, covering your hand with his. "For what?" you raised an eyebrow, really not understanding what he was thanking you for now. "You helped me," he said simply. You wanted to ask, "was there any other way to do it?", but you bit your tongue, thinking what to say. "It's not just me," you finally said, shrugging your shoulders. "I know," he nodded. "I've already thanked Lucy and Susan." "You don't have to thank me, I didn't do anything unusual," you shook your head. "You helped save Narnia," Tumnus smiled at you, "as well as me and many others." "It was Aslan," you immediately protested, raising your hands and grinning, "Aslan and Pevensey saved everyone." "But you helped them all," he arched an eyebrow, looking at you, "and don't tell me that's not the case, otherwise let's go ask the kings and queens," he said quickly, seeing that you opened your mouth to refute his words once again. "Okay," you sighed heavily, giving up this time, "I helped save Narnia and you. Although anyone would have done that in my place," you smiled, seeing how Tumnus's eyes narrowed, but this time he didn't say anything to you, just muttered softly to himself. "Not any… I probably couldn't." "What are you saying?" you leaned towards him, trying to hear his words. He shook his head, smiling sadly. "I couldn't. I'm a coward and I've never hidden it," he repeated a little louder, then moved away a little, and when you raised your head, he looked into your eyes. "I know," you said calmly. You didn't even argue with him, and you didn't want to, because you knew for sure that it was true, that he wasn't lying to you. It was clear without words, just by his behavior when you got to know him a little better after your first meeting and acquaintance. A slight smile slid across his lips and he looked into the distance, at the horizon. "It's going to be all right," you said, following his gaze. "I know," he did not stop smiling, and then turned to face you and, waiting for you to look at him, kissed you. You were confused for a moment, and then decided to just send everything into the abyss and relaxed, smiling into a kiss. A quiet exclamation of "Hurrah, well, finally!" made you break off the kiss and look at the immediately embarrassed and blushing Queen Lucy in bewilderment. She muttered something to herself, smiled, giggled and ran off to her brothers and sister. You laughed too, and then turned to Tumnus, who was looking at you, his eyes were laughing and he was smiling. You shook your head, biting your lip, trying to hide the smile that was bursting out, but you didn't do it well. He kissed you gently on the tip of your nose, and then gently but firmly hugged you. You closed your eyes and rested your head on his shoulder, exhaling and relaxing. He patted you on the back without saying a word. Now you understood each other without them, you didn't need words. When you noticed Edmund, Peter and Susan standing with Lucy near the exit, you just smiled and carefully got out of Tumnus' embrace. He first looked at you questioningly, frowned, and then turned around and shook his head with a smile, also noticing the monarchs. You held out your hand to him and looked at him questioningly, he smiled again, gently took your hand and together you headed back to the throne room.
