Chapter 14
December 20, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Blake got up the next morning, rubbing her eyes. She slipped into the main quarters of the house and up to the main room where the women slept and ate. The girls her age looked around a bit before inviting her back over. She rubbed the back of her neck but came over. "Can I help you?" she asked. She was really tired after the long day of travel.
"Were you with your girlfriend yesterday?" one of them asked.
Blake felt her cheeks heat up. "She's not-- Itold youthat she isn't-- Dating isn'tallowedfor the Donati family!" It would be entirely unsightly for a Donati person, especially a woman, to date around. They werethepremier family in the kingdom. It only made sense because they were the ruling line. She couldn't reflect so negatively on her family. She was just getting to know Weiss! There was a big difference between getting to know somebody and dating. There justwas! She couldn't believe the audacity of these girls.
"Break it up girls, break it up," Ninlil said as she came over. "Blake, while you were gone, I set up what you asked for with the local jeweler." Blake blinked but nodded.
"Thank you." It was kind of Ninlil to do that. She really hadn't gotten the sense initially that Ninlil was a kind person at all. She was hard and seemed immutable. It seemed like her choices and thoughts couldn't be changed. But she was going out of her way in order to help Blake... She'd let her take a day off to go get magic behind her family's back. She was glad things on the Peregrination couldn't be held against the person on it... Otherwise she would be sacked from the family once it was learned that her magic went against what the family was so famous for. She was so far removed from the line of succession that she really didn't understand why or how Queen Maryam believed that she needed to take on weather magic. It just didn't make sense…
Then again, Maryam ruled through fear mostly. Blake knew that getting called into her meeting chambers was a surefire way to get privileges taken away and to be convinced of wrongdoing. She was glad to be away from the woman for a while... she could do what she wanted...within reason. She hoped the jeweler that Ninlil had set her up with would allow her to leave early for falconry and to meet up with Weiss. She really didn't want to miss Weiss or not fly Kalena. "Did the jeweler agree to let me leave early...?"
"It was admittedly a bit of a hard sell for the woman, but she eventually agreed. As long as you're there by about 8am."
Blake nodded. "Well there's still some time until then at least." She'd get a meal here then head out. She stopped. "Uh, will you show me the way?"
Ninlil nodded. "That's no problem. But I can't keep showing you. Once and we're good. Understood?"
"Yes ma'am." She wasn't going to fuss too much because, well, this was what she'd wanted the whole time. She wanted magic that could be used with the soul somehow which was what she'd gotten. She was so glad... She let out a breath and her ears drooped a bit out of relief. She was going to get what she wanted. Queen Maryam would be furious once she went back, but she couldn't be punished. She just couldn't be. She couldn't get rid of the bit of niggling guilt, but she had never been invested in her weather lessons in the first place. This would let her do something she would be passionate about.
Well. At least until she went back.
She wasn't sure what all she could do once she returned to the castle. Most of the family just lazed about anyway. She didn't like being forced to work like this but...being industrious did feel kinda nice. She didn't really understand why the family didn't work. It was really nice to do something that wasn't studying or reading the entire day. To actuallydosomething worthwhile... She did kind of like it (aside from being forced into it).
"Eh? What did she arrange for you?" One of the other girls looked at Blake.
"I won't be working here anymore. I got my magic yesterday." Her ears twitched. She couldn't wait to start learning how to infuse spells. She wasn't a fully trained Ambrosial yet...but she was close enough. She and Weiss were both high in the Escheleons so it made sense she could get her magic. Most people waited to hit the twelfth one, but...she was high enough she could handle Order magic. It'd be another thing entirely if it were Chaos magic, but it was Order. It was incredibly safe to take on at a lower Escheleon without being fully trained in every single one. She was at Eleven after all.
The girls' eyes widened. "Wow... That's incredible. You're something else." one of them said.
"It's rare for someone in the Donati family to not get magic." A few people had non-weather-related magic like her, but they were pretty rare. It was all weather related otherwise. She hated it. She had never been interested in the first place. It felt restricting to be forced to keep tabs on the weather and learn about all that went into it. It was such a complex system and they continued to learn more about each and everyday. Science kept accelerating and teaching them more about the environment. It was guaranteed that the Donati family would continue to grow in power as understanding of the weather increased and became more and more fine tuned.
"What did you get?"
"The type of magic that allows you to make teleportation rings and such." Granted, she knew rings like that did make it difficult for people and governments to track who went where and such... Some countries banned them outright since they could be used for unscrupulous means and there were ways around the arbitrary limits that came with magic and souls. Someone like her could easily stick a piece of a person's soul to another's when they had no connection. She was pretty sure these things were used for crime in some areas. But she preferred to believe the best and hoped that people wouldn't use it for such…
"Oh wow... That's some high-grade magic. Not as much as controlling the weather but..." The girl blinked. Blake nodded. If she was unscrupulous, she could easily steal away from the family and give her abilities to the highest bidder...but she wouldn't do that. Something about aiding and abetting criminals just didn't sit super well with her.
It was about then that breakfast was brought and they all sat down to eat. Blake felt the hunger pangs from not having enough food, but she remained silent. She was looking forward to dinner where she could get enough food. She knew Ninlil wasn't purposely starving her, but it sure as hell felt like it... She wanted the proper amount of food at every meal. She'd have to go out and eat lunch at a restaurant to replenish her food stores. She hated all of this... But it was the only chance she'd have to talk to Weiss. There was no way she'd be able to get out and talk to her if they were in the castle.
Breakfast passed quickly and quietly. Afterward, Blake followed Ninlil down to the small stable and got on her horse. "Now don't forget the way," Ninlil said as they started out, the older woman reining her horse around.
"She won't," Blake promised as she patted her mare's neck. Ninlil nodded and they rode in relative silence, Naliaka following at a distance. Eventually, they arrived at a small house on the main street full of jewelry of golds, silvers, and other precious metals along with jewels of all sorts.
"Hey Kari!" Ninlil called.
A few minutes passed until a woman came out front and Blake couldn't help but blush. She didn't have gloves on.It was like walking around naked! She didn't understand how she couldn't have gloves on. Basically everything else was covered but... The scandal! "Oh, hello, Ninlil. Is this the young girl you were talking about yesterday?"
Ninlil nodded. "This is Blake. She's visiting from out of town for a while and would like a job that isn't seamstress work. She got her magic yesterday. She's a fairly hard worker." Blake looked at Ninlil. She was a slow worker as of yet... She knew how to sew (somehow) but she still worked a bit slower than the rest of the girls. But Ninlil still thought she was a hard worker...? Then again, who was she to argue? Putting good word in for her would only help her in the future. "She's a pretty quick study too."
Kari clapped her hands together. "Oh all right then! I'll give her a bit of a trial through fire for a few days before deciding. If not, well, you'll take care of her, right?"
Ninlil nodded. "Yes, absolutely. She's staying with us until she goes back home in about a year. If it doesn't work out here, then that's fine. She has a place with us." She smiled at Blake who nodded a bit. Well. That was definitely a good thing. She didn't know how to handle any of this. She wasn't really good with people or anything like that... She was trying her best to adapt though. She hoped that Kari wouldn't turn her out while she was still learning. She was really, reallytrying here. She just hadn't had any exposure to the outside world before this.
"All right then, Blake, come on." Kari smiled and motioned for her follow her into the back lake nodded and did so. A carefully constructed workshop stood in back. "Well, you just have magic and won't be working with the jewelry directly yet, so you can leave your gloves on. But considering I make my own jewelry, I can't do that." Blake looked at her hands again, blushing furiously. She would be insomuch trouble if this were the castle. Gloves and veils weremandatoryfor everyone as far as she was aware. Well. Maybe not the cooks, but she couldn't be sure. She didn't ever go down to the kitchens.
"How high are you in the Escheleons?" Kari asked.
"Um. Eleven. So I can think I can do the necessary work even without being mostly fully trained." Escheleon Twelve was a big ask of anybody to learn, let alone be fully trained in. It took years upon years on its own. Ten through Twelve were massive undertakings and really slowed to a crawl once one hit them. Nine was bad on its own, but people really slowed once they got to where she was.
Kari nodded. "All right then. I have some clientele coming in to get their rings and such today, so you'll want to payveryclose, careful attention to what I do." Blake nodded and, eventually, some people started coming in. The rest of the day was relatively slow and quiet with them working with clients though Blake's manners were a bit off putting to some. She was really trying... She just wasn't used to dealing with too many people outside of the Donati family. She was trying to learn how to deal with people but it was really difficult.
Once late afternoon rolled around, Kari nodded. "Aside from a few hiccups, you did pretty well. You have a clean, precise hand and clearly know what you're doing when it comes to handling souls. Are you sure you just got your magic yesterday and haven't done this before?"
Blake nodded. "I couldn't have done it before if I didn't have my magic..." She wasn't used to truly manipulating souls yet, but, somehow she was well used to it.
Just like she was with sewing.
This was all so strange. She and Weiss had abilities they shouldn't logically have, yet they did. She didn't understand how that worked in the first place. WHat was going on? And how did they have a soul bond with each other and what seemed to be one other person? Honestly, she might skip her eagle hunting and go looking for that last errant soul bond... Assuming the person wouldn't sense her coming. Whoever it was, was close by. Not too far away from the dig site, or so it seemed.
"Anyway, you can head off now. Ninlil said you needed to get off early for some reason?"
Blake nodded. "It's falconry season. I'm a falconer." A bit of a lie since she wasn't used to hunting on her own and was more about just being a perch for Kalena, but she had to kind of skirt around. "I don't want to miss peak daylight hours. If I get out too late, there won't be any time left for hunting." She'd stop by the restaurant, grab her and Weiss' orders, then see if she could track down the person who was at the other end of that errant soul bond... She really hoped that she could find them. It madeliterally no sensethat they had these soul bonds like this…
"All right then. Have fun." Kari smiled and waved Blake off. Blake nodded and got on her horse. She rounded to the restaurant, put the food in ehr bag when she got it, then took off at a canter to cover more distance. Unfortunately, it seemed as if the person was onto her because she could sense them moving away quite a bit. Still near the dig site, but definitely moving at anextremespeed to get away. Even her horse wouldn't be able to keep up at a gallop.
Guh.
Obnoxious.
How could somebody move so much faster than a horse though?
Defeated, she reined her horse around and started heading toward the dig site. It wasn't dinner time yet, but she hoped that she could maybe meet up with Weiss somehow. The guard at the site looked annoyed to see her but with Naliaka on her shoulder, it was clear who she was. She shouldn't do thistooterribly much, but she just wanted to be with Weiss. She didn't seem too bad for a human but still... Three months wasn't a long time to decide if they wanted to get married or not. She wanted to spend more time with Weiss, but they were both on jobs. It wasn't like she could just skip and hang around the dig site all day. That woulddefinitelyget back to Queen Maryam.
So she got to Weiss' tent and, unsurprisingly, found it unoccupied. She settled in one of the chairs, putting her bag on the ground. This was so annoying... She was enjoying the work at the jewelry shop a lot more, but she would preferred to be by Weiss' side…
Guh.
She still didn't understand why she was so drawn to a human. Humans were terrible creatures that only worked to enslave and destroy. Faunus nations tended to be more in tune with nature and less destructive to the environment compared to humans as far as she was aware. Why were humans so brutal? It made no sense to her... Humans were such nasty, nasty creatures... Yet she was so drawn to one. She almost felt...whole in Weiss' presence. She didn't understand. It made no sense. None of this madeanysense. It went against the natural laws as she understood them.
However, it wasn't long until Weiss came into the tent. "Oh, Blake... It's you. I was confused why I was being told there was somebody in my tent." A strange white bird and a very pretty speckled one that looked like the night sky sat on both of her shoulders. Blake blinked and tilted her head, looking at the two birds. "It's a bit early for dinner..."
"Sorry. I didn't mean to pull you away from work. You could've just waited. Who are your friends?" She couldn't help but be interested in the birds, especially the black one. SOmething about it lookedveryfamiliar but it escaped through her fingers like trying to hold water. It was familiar but she couldn't place it, just like with the vault Weiss was working on. Why was it so familiar...?
"Oh, this is Avram and Lillias." She motioned to each one. "It's a little early for dinner, about four-thirty, but I am a bit peckish. I'll put them to bed and then we can eat. Sound good?" She smiled at Blake and Blake nodded. Weiss put the two birds into the falconry boxes and it clicked. Ohhh... That's what the boxes were for. Though... Those weren't falcons. They looked like the tropical birds that some nobles imported to have as a way of flaunting their wealth. She frowned a little at the thought. "What's on your mind?"
Blake opened her bag and took out Weiss' portion, handing it over. "I've seen birds with beaks like that kept in cages in noble homes, though the birds are different. The ones nobles keep are more colorful. What sorts of birds are those?" She couldn't help but be curious. However, it didn't seem like Weiss was abusing them in the slightest. She'd seen nobles' birds that had plucked themselves naked. Probably from being stuck in a tiny cage for their entire lives... Nasty business.
"We call them cockatoos. I believe they're related to macaws somehow since theyareall parrots. Lillias is a red-tailed black cockatoo and Avram is an umbrella cockatoo. There are white and black species, though there's also this adorable, tiny little species that still has the crest but it's bite sized. They're really good at whistling. Males have a yellow head with bright orange cheeks. They aresupercute." Weiss smiled. Parrots huh?
"Why are you putting them to bed so early?" She was mostly used to ravens and eagles... Parrots were a mystery to her beyond what little she'd seen in the homes of nobles. But a plucked bird sitting in a cage didn't seem to be a good register of how a wild one would act. It was really sad to see how the birds mutilated themselves. She wasn't sure why... "Do you know why a parrot would pluck itself?" She couldn't help but be curious about all of this. It was a world unknown to her. Apparently birds could be entirely different than what she was used to.
"It keeps breeding behaviors kept back if they get at least twelve hours of uninterrupted darkness. They could easily break through those falconry boxes with their beaks since those beaks are designed to rip and shred wood and nuts. As for why one would pluck itself..." Sheroned. "I'm guessing you've seen the ones nobles have imported elsewhere?" Blake nodded. "They're intelligent creatures that are meant to be parts of large flocks. Most nobles just stick them in tiny cages without anything to stimulate their minds or even really stretch their wings. Imagine being kept inside one room your entire life, barely able to sit down and definitely not able to lay down. You'd be pretty miserable too, wouldn't you?"
Blake frowned. "No, that doesn't sound nice. I'm used to having the whole castle to explore and sometimes go out into town. I have classes most of the day." She was used to being intellectually stimulated... She could see where Weiss was going with this. All of that made sense to her. Especially if they were Sanctified. She couldn't imagine being stuck in a tiny room with only minimal food and water and not able to stretch out too much... That sounded like a life of torture. "That sounds like torture."
"It pretty much is for them. Especially if they're Sanctified. Any Sanctified is just as intelligent as you and I are. Imagine sticking your raven or an eagle in a cage its whole life and never letting them out. And I don't mean a mews either. I mean a cage where there's barely any room to hop around and definitely not enough to spread their wings." Blake shivered at Weiss' description. Some people did see mews and falconry as cruel due to not letting the birds fly free, but they were molting and needed to grow new feathers. They got fed as much as they could ever want and were kept safe when things were at their toughest. A raptor in a mews wasn't trapped or tortured; they had more than enough room to move around. Maybe notflybut they could easily hop, move, and even nest if they were being prepared for breeding.
"How can people do that...?" She didn't understand. It was so cruel.
Weiss shrugged. "Even Faunus are capable of great cruelty." That made Blake bristle a bit but...despite the fact they had animal traits...they could be quite cruel to their animals. Nobles especially. She'd seen so many birds caged in tiny cages where there were maybe one or two perches. Crows and ravens included. She petted Naliaka's head, her blood turning cold from the idea that Faunus might be just as capable of the same level of cruelty that humans were. It felt so...wrong but…
“I wish I could refute that but…” She shook her head. She’d seen it firsthand. She hated that she couldn’t deny that Faunus could be just as cruel as humans sometimes. Faunus were still inherently better than humans for certain, but they could still be capable of great cruelty at times… She had seen it.
“Faunus aren’t as good as you think they are. They arenobetter than humans. I’ve been to Faunus-led countries before and the discrimination Faunus inflict on humans is just as bad as what humans inflict on Faunus. Several Faunus-led countries have human slavery and they even enslave other Faunus.”
Blake’s ears went down and she let out an unintentional growl. “You speaklies.Faunus wouldneverenslave other Faunus!”
Weiss gave her a withering look and she started digging through her bag, eventually pulling out a book. It wasn’t written in Sodocroan so she had no real idea what it said. There was no way she could just take Weiss’ word at face value. “This is a book on slavery and the conditions slaves are kept in.” She practically dropped it into Blake’s lap, almost sending her food tipping to the ground. Blake let out another growl, her ears still pinned back.
“I can’t read that.” She only knew Sodocroan. There wasn’t any way she’d be able to read a book not written in her mother tongue. It was just how things were. She wasn’t a polyglot like Weiss was. How people learned so many languages, she had no real idea. It was just crazy to think that someone could communicate with so many different people.
Weiss took the book back and opened to the map, then pulled out an atlas. Faunus-led and human-led nations were highlighted in different colors. “You can at least agree these are the Faunus-led nations, right?” Blake couldn’t read the atlas, but she had seen them enough that she could recognise the difference. She nodded at Weiss. “Compare and contrast tothismap then. This is where slavery is legal and where it’s not.” Weiss put the two books side by side. Glancing between them…
Her ears flattened.
“That’s what I thought. You’re smart, Blake; you’re just sheltered from the world.”
She couldn’t deny the fact that she could see overlap between the Faunus-led nations and the nations that still allowed slavery. Slavery had never been legal in Sodocroa to Blake’s knowledge. Faunus were the dominant race here, of course, but she had just never known slavery to be legal. “I… How can do theydothat? It’s cruel… Evenhumansdon’t deservethatsort of treatment.”
“How can you justify the way you treat men? Making them second-class citizens where they can’t hold land, hold homes, and have no right to their own salary? Their money just gets given to their wives without second thought!”
Blake’s ears remained low. “Because they’re just inferior. That’s just how the way of the world shouldbe.Men would oppress women in the same way, given the chance. There arefartoo many nations where men oppress women and just force them to have children they don’t want! It’s better to control them so they can’t do that to us!”
Weiss put the slavery book away and dug through her bag again, pulling out another book with a similar map. “Okay, so this is how women are treated in the world.” Blake’s ears remained low as she went back and forth with the books. Damn it… Weiss really was prepared even though she was pretty sure that this sort of lecture wasn’t intended. They were just trying to get to know each other but Weiss wasreallyhammering down her personal beliefs on Blake. Ifthiswas what their relationship would be like, she didn’twantWeiss in her life. She had that typical human superiority complex that could and would make her feel entitled to speak over Faunus… Disgusting.
“Yeah, and that’s becausemenfeel entitled to women and their bodies just because they have penises!” Blake snapped. Weiss seemed entirely unfazed and put the books back. “Why shouldn’t there be at leastonenation where women can be dominant and put menin their natural place?!Women should be the ones that that rule! We’re much less violent and vitriolic than men!”
“Good to see you’re the typical Sodocroan woman.” Weiss’ tone was entirely neutral.
“What’sthatsupposed to mean?”
“Make of it what you will.” Weiss flapped her hand and shrugged. Her soul didn’t give anything away. Guh. She was definitely good at masking her emotions… Her walls were high and made of stone. She wouldn’t be getting anything further out of Weiss’ soul. How annoying. She wanted to knowwhatshe meant by being a ‘typical Sodocroan woman.’ That madenosense. She would have to ask her mother what that meant. She would have plenty of time on the ride back to Ninlil’s house to talk to her mother, assuming that she picked up… It was getting a bit late.
By this time, they’d both pretty much finished their food. “Anyway, I should go.” Blake closed her container and put it in her own bag.
“If you don’t want to see me tomorrow, that’s fine.” Weiss’ tone remained entirely neutral as she spoke. She was being carefully controlled and not showinganyemotion.
The comment did make Blake pause. She was rather angry at Weiss for having that typical human superiority but…she was still drawn to Weiss. It felt like it’d be a mistake to leave Weiss alone when they only had three months to get to know each other. Even one missed meal could make or break their relationship. “Same time?”
“All right then.” Weiss nodded. “I need to get back to work now.” Blake nodded and left the tent, getting back on her horse. She couldn’tbelieveWeiss’ radical beliefs that men ought to be treated the same as women… How in the world could anybody think like that? Be treated better? Bah! She had studied the other nations where women were far more oppressed and it was obvious that men were the root cause of the issue. There was nothing more complex than that. Men could andwouldoppress women at the first given chance. They thought themselves superior just because they had penises. She didn’t understand how someone could just think themselves superior simply because they were one sex or gender.
She reined her horse around and set off at a trot. She probably should give them some distance for a day or two after that blowup, but she knew that their time was incredibly limited. She didn’twantto leave Weiss alone too long. They had to make a life-changing decision in averyshort amount of time… Weiss probably wouldn’t stay in Sodocroa much longer than her contract was for. She clearly held a lot of disdain for Sodocroan points of view. She wasn’t sure if they’d be able to overcome that or not… It was a fundamental difference thatwouldlead to a breakup if they did get together. They got along on the surface, but it was rapidly becoming apparent that they held mutually exclusive views about the world. Weiss heldsuchhuman supremacy views that it was frankly alarming…
Once out of the camp, she tapped on her teibas and called her mother. It took a few rings before she picked up. It was audio-only. “Oh hello Blake! What can I do for you?”
“Sorry if I’m a little hard to understand, but I’m riding back to Ninlil’s right now. I…had a question and need some advice from you.” She knew her mother would hold her in confidence. “Can you go to your room and not have anybody bother you for a bit?”
“Oh my, thisisserious. But of course. I’ll hand dinner over to your father.” Honestly, that was one thing shedidn’tmiss about being at the castle… She didnotmiss her father’s overbearing personality and his harsh penalties for misbehaving. Same with Queen Maryam. She did not miss either of them bearing down over her just because she was a little more independent than the average member of the royal family… She wasn’t looking forward to going back and having the queen and her father both punish her for what they considered major infractions.
Blake waited until she heard the door close to her mother’s room. “All right, dear, what it is?”
She frowned even though she knew her mother couldn’t see it. “I’m seeing a person on my Peregrination to get to know them… It’s the soul bond I’ve always felt and wondered about. This person is human and they holdreallyradical human superiority views. They seem nice enough, but…I don’t trust them to change their views. Humans are violent creatures and so prone to superiority.Andthey believe that men aren’t inherently violent and wouldn’t oppress women at the first chance they got. They called me a ‘typical Sodocroan woman’ and didn’t elaborate further. I want to keep seeing them, but these views will make us fundamentally incompatible. What should Ido?I just don’t know…” Her heart still wanted to be near Weiss, but she couldn’t agree with anything that Weiss had said. She was a typical superior, stuck-up human. What else could she say or do?
There was an extended silence from her mother for a good five minutes. “I’m not sure what to tell you, Blake. I found out things weren’t the way I thought they were on my Peregrination. I don’t know what to say to you. It’s not like you speak other languages that would allow you to read books from other areas like I do. I learned a few other languages growing up despite being in the castle. I was just always curious about the outside world… You don’t entirely share that curiosity I had. Let’s just say that speaking a lot of different languages really opened up the world of literature to me.”
Blake frowned. That wasn’t what she wanted to hear. But no, she didn’t speak multiple languages… She wasn’t sure how to learn any. It would take years the natural way.
Then again…
“I wonder if there are any language-learning manuals that I could study for a bit that could teach me the basics of other languages, then I could go to Celaecyal and have her fully unlock them.” It was a bit of a deus ex machina and shortcutting her way through language learning, but she was pretty sure she wasn’t the only one that had thought of this throughout history. If she could learnjust enough, then she could have Celaecyal teach her the rest of the language through magic.
“I have some old ones that I could have someone bring to you. They aren’t the most up to date, but it’s not like the language has shifted so much in the past 20-30 years that it’s completely unrecognisable.”
“I’d appreciate that…” She really would. She wasn’t sure what languages those books Weiss had were in. She’d have to contact her once she got back to Ninlil’s.
“All right then; I’ll have someone run them to you tomorrow. I hope things work out for you.” She could hear the smile in her mother’s voice. “Is that all?”
“Yes. Good night. I love you.” The sun was on its daily descent, so she really needed to pick up the pace… She knew a gallop would just wear her horse out, so she opted for a canter after she hung up with her mother. It led to a deep contemplative session until she arrived at Ninlil’s. Why would Weiss lie toherof all people…? Weiss did seem to be pretty honest as far as she could be. There was a difference between keeping something away from someone that wasn’t working on a project and being an outright compulsive liar. Weiss seemed pretty willing to answer her question when she could… She had given her details on the dig she probablyshouldn’thave… It was just so hard to think about what to do with Weiss…
She took care of her horse in the stables then retreated to the little room outside of the house. She frowned and dialed Weiss. She held her breath as it rang a few times and then Weiss picked up. “What is it, Blake?” She didn’t sound angry or annoyed that Blake had contacted her which was good…
“What languages were those books in that you showed me?”
Weiss blinked. “You want to read them? Well, they’re definitely not the type of book Sodocroa would want you reading… But it’s not like you can learn a language in three months with just general studying. Let aloneseverallanguages…”
“I might have a bit of an idea on how I can do that…”
“Why am I afraid to ask?”
“Celaecyal. I plan to learn some basics of the language, then I’ll have her unlock the rest of the language.”
“That’s…just so weird it might actually work.” Weiss shook her head. “Well, I can give you those books tomorrow as well as others. As for the languages…” She listed several and Blake sent the list to her mother, hoping she would have manuals on the languages. If not, she would have to make a special request from a bookstore in the capital. There wasn’t much else she could do about it. Hopefully they’d have manuals on the languages that could be purchased immediately… “Is that everything you needed?” Weiss tilted her head a bit. It didn’t sound like she was trying to rush or hurry Blake nor did Blake get that feeling… It was definitely out of the ordinary.
Blake nodded. “That’s all. I’ll see you tomorrow. Same time.”
“See you tomorrow.” Weiss clicked off the call and Blake stretched, starting the light. She changed into her pajamas and then clicked the light off, curling up in her bed. Well, today certainly had been something… She didn’t want to entertain Weiss’ human supremacy thoughts, but those were clearly academic books. And, well, Blake didn’t mind reading at all. She honestly really loved it. It’d just be annoying to have to deal with learning a foreign language, multiples because those were the books Weiss had on her.
What a day.
What. A. Day.
