The Age of Shackled Emotions

Settings
Long ago, the world thrived under the balance of the Four Great Emotions — Joy, Sorrow, Rage, and Fear. They flowed like rivers through the hearts of men, shaping kingdoms, sparking wars, birthing art, and weaving the very fabric of magic. The wise understood that no single emotion should reign supreme, for together they formed the rhythm of life itself. But then came Malakar. A scholar once, then a conqueror, he uncovered the forbidden truth: that emotions could be harvested, distilled, and wielded as weapons. With cruel precision, he shackled them. Joy was twisted into hollow obedience, forced laughter ringing in town squares where dissent had once flourished. Sorrow became a chain, its weight used to break the spirits of those who resisted. Rage was carved into blades for his soldiers, turning wrath into a servant of the throne. And Fear — oh, Fear was his favorite — whispered into the night, a shadow that choked hope before it could bloom. The people forgot what it meant to feel freely. Songs lost their meaning. Tears became a crime. Anger was permitted only in service to the crown. And so, the world grew still. A painted mask over a rotting core. Yet prophecies, like emotions, are not so easily erased. In the darkest hour, when the last spark of defiance seemed lost, the Oracle of Whispers spoke a single truth: “When the four are bound, the fifth shall rise.” None remembered what the Fifth Emotion was. Some said it had been forgotten on purpose. Others claimed it was never real to begin with. But in the alleyways where the desperate still clung to life, in the hushed tales of rebels who refused to kneel, a rumor began to spread. A rumor of something new. Something… unexpected. And in the shadows, a man who had spent his life as a trickster, a performer of illusions, felt something stir in his chest. A flicker. A gasp. A jolt like lightning in the blood. The world held its breath. The Age of Surprise was about to begin.
