Chapter 1

The night was quiet, save for the soft rustling of leaves outside the window. Yihdra sat on the edge of her bed, her hands trembling slightly as she clutched the pendant around her neck. The battle earlier that day had been brutal—monstrous enemies, relentless attacks, and the ever-present fear of losing someone she cared about. She had healed the physical wounds of her companions, but the mental toll lingered, a heavy weight pressing on her chest. Her thoughts kept circling back to him. Tougo— or Red, as they all called him—had been her shield, her protector, her light in the chaos. When the storm of attacks had rained down, he had thrown himself in front of her without hesitation, taking the brunt of the assault to keep her safe. His bravery, his selflessness, had left her breathless. And now, as the moonlight spilled into her room, all she could think about was him. Was he okay? Was he resting? Did he feel the same ache in his heart that she did? Yihdra closed her eyes, her fingers brushing against the magical stone in her pendant. It had been a gift from her ancestors, a relic that bound her to those she held dear. She hadn’t fully understood its power until now. As she whispered his name—his real name—into the stillness of the night, the stone began to glow. “Tougo…” she murmured softly, her voice trembling with emotion. The light from the pendant grew brighter, filling the room with a warm, emerald hue. Yihdra gasped as the air around her seemed to shimmer, and in the next moment, there he was—Tougo, lying beside her on the bed, sound asleep. Her heart leaped in her chest, and she instinctively reached out to touch him, to make sure he was real. He looked so peaceful in sleep, his face relaxed, his chest rising and falling gently. Yihdra’s breath caught as she studied him—the strong line of his jaw, the way his red bangs fell across his forehead, the faint scar on his cheek that spoke of countless battles fought and survived. She couldn’t help herself; her fingers moved of their own accord, brushing his bangs aside with a tenderness that surprised even her. “Tougo…” she whispered again, her voice barely audible. The sound of his name on her lips felt like a secret, something sacred and intimate. As her fingers lingered on his forehead, Tougo stirred. His eyelids fluttered, and for a moment, Yihdra froze, unsure of what to do. But then his eyes opened, and he looked at her, his gaze soft and unfocused at first, then sharpening with recognition. “Yihdra…?” he murmured, his voice rough with sleep. “What…?” She pulled her hand back quickly, her cheeks flushing. “I-I’m sorry,” she stammered. “I didn’t mean to wake you. I just… I needed to see you. To make sure you were okay.” Tougo propped himself up on one elbow, his expression softening as he took in her worried face. “I’m fine,” he said gently. “But… what about you? You look like you haven’t slept at all.” Yihdra shook her head, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I couldn’t. Not after today. You… you scared me, Tougo. When you shielded me like that, I thought… I thought I might lose you.” He reached out, his hand brushing against hers. “I’d do it again,” he said firmly. “I’ll always protect you, Yihdra. No matter what.” Her breath hitched at his words, and before she could stop herself, she leaned forward, pressing her forehead against his. “You’re so reckless,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “But… that’s one of the things I love about you.” Tougo’s eyes widened, and for a moment, he was silent. Then, slowly, he cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs brushing away the tears that had escaped her eyes. “Yihdra…” he said, his voice low and tender. “You don’t have to be afraid. I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.” Her heart swelled at his words, and she closed the distance between them, her lips meeting his in a kiss that was soft and hesitant at first, then deepened as they both gave in to the emotions they had been holding back. His arms wrapped around her, pulling her closer, and she melted into his embrace, her hands tangling in his thick hair. When they finally pulled apart, they were both breathless, their foreheads resting together once more. “I love you, Red. No, Tougo,” Yihdra whispered, her voice steady now. “I think I’ve loved you for a long time.” He smiled, a rare, genuine smile that made her heart skip a beat. “I love you too, Yihdra,” he said. “More than anything.” They stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other’s arms, sharing quiet words and gentle touches. Eventually, exhaustion caught up with them, and they lay down together, Yihdra’s head resting on Tougo’s chest as he held her close. The pendant around her neck glowed faintly, a reminder of the bond that had brought them together. As they drifted off to sleep, Yihdra felt a sense of peace she hadn’t known in a long time. With Tougo by her side, she knew she could face anything—and for the first time in what felt like forever, she slept soundly, safe in the arms of the man she loved.
