Chapter 1

The guild office was quiet, the soft glow of moonlight filtering through the windows and casting a silvery sheen over the stacks of paperwork on Alina’s desk. She sat there, her quill scratching against parchment, though her mind was far from the task at hand. Jade Skrade leaned against the wall nearby, his arms crossed and his attentive violet eyes watching her with an intensity that made her skin prickle.
It had been weeks since their last mission—the one that had nearly cost them everything. The fight with the final boss and the relics had left them both on the edge of death, their bodies broken and their spirits shaken. Alina still remembered the terror she had felt when she saw Jade collapse, his blood staining the ground as he fought to protect her. She had been just as injured, her vision blurring as she dragged herself to his side, desperate to keep him alive.
They had survived, but the scars—both physical and emotional—lingered. After weeks of recovery in the hospital, this was the first night they had seen each other since that horrific battle. Alina had told herself she was only here to catch up on work, but deep down, she knew the truth. She had missed him. She had needed to see him, to make sure he was safe and sound. But she couldn't bring herself to tell him that.
“You’re overworking again,” Jade said, his voice low and smooth, breaking the silence.
Alina didn’t look up, though her grip on the quill tightened. “And you’re hovering again. Don’t you have something better to do?”
Jade pushed off the wall, his movements deliberate as he approached her. “Not really. Watching you is far more entertaining.”
Alina rolled her eyes, though her cheeks flushed. “You’re insufferable.”
“And yet, here you are, still putting up with me,” Jade replied, a smirk tugging at his lips.
Alina finally set down her quill, turning to glare at him. “What do you want, Jade?”
For a moment, he didn’t answer. He simply stood there, his gaze sweeping over her face as if memorizing every detail. Then, without warning, he reached out, his fingers brushing a strand of hair from her face.
“You,” he said simply, his voice barely above a whisper.
Alina’s breath hitched, her heart pounding as she stared up at him. “Jade…”
He didn’t give her a chance to protest. In one swift motion, he pulled her to her feet, his arm wrapping firmly around her waist as he drew her close. Alina’s hands instinctively rested against his chest, her fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt.
“You’ve been driving me crazy, Alina,” Jade murmured, his voice thick with emotion. “Every time you glare at me, every time you snap at me, every single time you ignore me — all I can think about is how much I want to kiss you.”
Alina’s eyes widened, her mind racing. “Jade, I—”
But he didn’t let her finish. His hand cupped her cheek, his touch tender yet firm as he tilted her face up to his. “I’ve tried to keep my distance,” he admitted, his violet eyes searching hers. “But I can’t pretend anymore. Not when you’re all I think about.”
Alina’s heart swelled with emotion, her usual defiance melting away as she looked into his eyes. She had always seen Jade as infuriating, arrogant, and utterly impossible. But now, in this moment, she saw the truth—the depth of his feelings, the sincerity in his touch.
“You need to stop,” she whispered, her voice trembling.
He leaned in, his breath warm against her skin. “Then tell me to stop,” he murmured, his lips brushing against hers in the faintest of touches.
But Alina didn’t tell him to stop. Instead, she rose onto her toes, closing the distance between them as her lips met his in a deep, searing kiss. Jade’s arm tightened around her waist, pulling her even closer as he kissed her back with a passion that took her breath away.
It was tender yet firm, filled with all the unspoken words and hidden emotions they had both been holding back. Alina’s hands slid up to wrap around his neck, her fingers tangling in his silver hair as she surrendered to the moment.
When they finally pulled away, both of them were breathless. Jade rested his forehead against hers, his arm still wrapped securely around her waist.
“Alina,” he murmured, his voice filled with quiet determination. “I’ve wanted to do that for so long.”
Alina’s cheeks flushed, but she didn’t pull away. “You’re such an idiot,” she said softly, though there was no bite in her words.
Jade chuckled, his thumb brushing against her cheek. “Maybe. But If you are okay with it, let it be.”
Alina’s heart soared, and for the first time, she allowed herself to believe him—to believe that his feelings were real.
“Jade,” she began, her voice trembling.
"I love you, Alina. More than you can imagine. You are my life."
His sincere yet serious words broke the remain walls around her heart. She leaned in and embraced him gently, wrapping her arms around his neck and laying her hed on his firm shoulder. “I… I think I love you too, stupid stalker.”
His smile widened, and he titled her chin to kiss her again, this time with a tenderness that made her heart ache.
And as they stood there, the world around them faded away, leaving only the warmth of their shared moment—a moment that had started with frustration and bickering, and had blossomed into something beautiful.
