Chapter 1

Settings
The sun was setting over Furinkan High School, casting a warm golden glow over the campus. Akane Tendo stood by the school gates, clutching a small, carefully wrapped box of homemade chocolates in her hands. Her heart raced as she glanced around, hoping no one would see her. She had spent hours perfecting these chocolates, pouring all her secret feelings into every piece. But now, standing here, she felt a wave of doubt.   "What if he laughs at me?" she thought, her cheeks flushing. "What if he doesn’t feel the same way?"   Ranma Saotome was her fiancé—well, technically. Their engagement had been arranged by their parents, and their relationship had always been a whirlwind of bickering, misunderstandings, and the occasional heartfelt moment. But lately, Akane had started to notice things about Ranma that she couldn’t ignore. The way he always stepped in to protect her, even when she didn’t ask for it. The way his cocky grin softened into something genuine when he thought no one was looking. And the way her heart skipped a beat whenever he was near.   She had tried to push these feelings aside, telling herself it was just the stress of their chaotic lives. But deep down, she knew the truth: she was falling for him.   “Akane?”   She jumped at the sound of his voice, quickly hiding the box behind her back. Ranma stood a few feet away, his usual confident smirk on his face. But there was something different about him today—a nervous energy that made him fidget with the strap of his bag.   “What are you still doing here?” he asked, tilting his head. “School ended hours ago.”   “I could ask you the same thing,” Akane shot back, her voice sharper than she intended. She winced internally. *Why do I always do that?*   Ranma scratched the back of his head, avoiding her gaze. “Uh, well, I was just… training. Yeah, training.”   Akane raised an eyebrow. “On Valentine’s Day?”   Ranma’s cheeks turned pink, and he mumbled something under his breath. Akane couldn’t help but smile. For all his bravado, Ranma could be surprisingly shy sometimes.   “Anyway,” he said, clearing his throat, “what’s that behind your back?”   Akane’s heart skipped a beat. “N-nothing!”   Ranma’s eyes narrowed, and before she could react, he darted forward, snatching the box from her hands. “Hey!” she protested, reaching for it, but he held it out of her reach, grinning mischievously.   “What’s this? Chocolates?” he teased, holding the box up to the light. “Did you make these for me?”   Akane’s face burned. “Give that back, you jerk!”   But Ranma wasn’t listening. He opened the box, his eyes widening as he saw the carefully crafted chocolates inside. For a moment, he was silent, his usual bravado replaced by something softer.   “You… made these?” he asked quietly, his voice tinged with awe.   Akane crossed her arms, looking away. “It’s not a big deal. I just had some extra ingredients, so…”   Ranma’s expression softened, and he took a step closer to her. “Akane, these are amazing. You didn’t have to…”   She glanced up at him, her heart pounding. “I wanted to.”   The air between them grew heavy with unspoken words. Ranma stared at her, his usual smirk replaced by a look of genuine affection. Akane felt her breath catch in her throat as he reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face.   “Akane,” he began, his voice trembling slightly, “there’s something I’ve been wanting to tell you.”   Her eyes widened. “What is it?”   Ranma took a deep breath, his cheeks flushing. “I know we’ve always fought a lot, and I know I can be a jerk sometimes. But the truth is… I care about you. A lot. More than I’ve ever admitted, even to myself.”   Akane’s heart swelled with emotion, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. “Ranma…”   He looked down at the box of chocolates, his fingers tracing the edge. “I guess what I’m trying to say is… I love you, Akane. I always have.”   For a moment, Akane was speechless. All the secret feelings she had buried, all the moments she had tried to ignore, came rushing to the surface. Without thinking, she threw her arms around him, burying her face in his chest.   “I love you too, Ranma,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I’ve been so scared to admit it, but it’s true.”   Ranma’s arms wrapped around her, holding her tightly. “You don’t have to be scared anymore,” he murmured into her hair. “We’re in this together, okay?”   Akane nodded, her tears soaking into his shirt. For the first time in what felt like forever, she felt at peace.   When they finally pulled away, Ranma smiled down at her, his usual confidence returning. “So… does this mean I get to eat these chocolates now?”   Akane laughed, swatting his arm. “You’re impossible.”   But as they walked home together, hand in hand, Akane couldn’t stop smiling. The secret feelings she had kept hidden for so long were finally out in the open, and she knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.   Because they were more than just fiancés—they were soulmates. And on this Valentine’s Day, they had found the courage to admit it.
