Chapter 1

As New Year's approached, a special atmosphere enveloped Osaka. The streets were adorned with lights, and shop windows lured passersby with bright garlands and festive goods. The air was filled with the scent of roasted chestnuts and cotton candy. Heiji and Kazuha, as always, were together, but this time their relationship was on the brink of something more. Heiji, with his usual uncertainty, pondered how to make this New Year special. He knew Kazuha was expecting something romantic from him, but his attempts always ended in failure. This time, he decided that a midnight kiss at the stroke of midnight would be the perfect way to express his feelings. But, as always, his plans were destined to change. "Hey, Kazuha, what if we make the midnight kiss a joke?" he suggested, trying to hide his excitement. "Like, just for laughs!" Kazuha, with her characteristic straightforwardness, raised an eyebrow. "A joke? Are you serious?" "Well, yeah! We can just kiss, and that's it. No obligations!" Heiji replied, hoping it wouldn't provoke her anger. Kazuha thought for a moment. "Okay, but only if it really is a joke. I don't want you to regret it later!" Heiji nodded, although deep down he understood that it wasn't just a joke for him. He wanted this moment to be something more than just a game. Finally, midnight arrived. They stood on the rooftop of one of the buildings, where a magnificent view of the city unfolded before them. The fireworks lit up the night sky, and Heiji felt his heart race. He looked at Kazuha, her face illuminated by the lights, and at that moment, he realized he couldn't just brush aside his feelings. "Kazuha, I..." he began, but her laughter interrupted him. "Well, are you ready for the joke?" she asked, winking. Gathering his courage, Heiji leaned in. Their lips met in a light kiss that seemed to last an eternity. In that moment, everything around them faded away. But when they pulled apart, Kazuha suddenly blushed and, laughing, said, "Well, that was unexpected!" However, as soon as they returned to reality, the situation became more complicated. Heiji felt his heart race even faster. He hadn't expected that this kiss would unleash such a flood of emotions. Kazuha, for her part, couldn't shake off the feeling of awkwardness. "That was a joke, right?" she asked, trying to hide her embarrassment. "Yeah, a joke..." Heiji replied, though uncertainty lingered in his voice. From that moment on, everything went awry. Every time they met, tension arose between them. Heiji tried to act as if nothing had happened, but Kazuha seemed to constantly recall that kiss. She became more withdrawn, and Heiji grew even more uncertain. A few days later, when they met again, Kazuha couldn't hold back any longer. "Heiji, let's talk about what happened on New Year's!" Heiji, feeling his heart race in sync with her words, replied, "I don't know what to say. It was a joke, but..." "But you didn't look like it was a joke!" Kazuha interrupted him. "I felt like it was something more!" Finally, Heiji gathered his courage. "Kazuha, I didn't want it to be a joke. I just didn't know how to tell you that... that I actually feel more for you than just friendship." Kazuha froze, her eyes widening in surprise. "Are you serious?" "Yes, I'm serious."
