Chapter 11

Settings
Two months passed. March 6 was Bonnie's birthday, Honi knew about it, because the ginger once told her about it. Bonnie was doing some assignment on her laptop for the university, she studied in the correspondence department, because there were no places on the state budget. Honidesu decided to draw something with a pencil on paper. She got Zhmak and she giggled, then continued and drew her friend and herself. The drawing looked very sincere and cute, she drew herself and her friends as heroes protecting the world from monsters. When Bonnie finally finished doing her assignment, she looked at Honi's drawing and smiled: "Wow, is that us? I didn't know you could draw so interestingly!" "Yes, this is the team of Honi, Bonnie and Zhmak and it is invincible!" said Honi, she was clearly very proud of her drawing. "And I give it to you, happy birthday!" "Hee hee, it's so charming, thank you!" The friends had already become very attached to each other. In their free time, they usually went hunting against the sinister mockers, improving their skills. Bonnie's favorite place looked even more beautiful in the spring, as she said in the winter when she first introduced her friend to it. A huge waterfall, the water of which sparkled in the rays of the morning sun. The gentle rustle of leaves in the spring breeze. Small wildflowers bloomed on the ground, dotting the grass with bright colors and fragrant aromas... One of those days, Zhmak stayed at home. The girls heard the roar of a monster nearby in the forest. They carefully followed the sound and saw the sinister mocker attacking a man. The stranger's face was hidden by a mask. He was wearing a long black cloak with a red hood. The man struggled and tried to resist, but it was clear that he would not be able to resist this creature. The friends did not hesitate and decided to intervene. The mocker let out another heart-rending scream. Honi and Bonnie rushed at him, swinging their axes with all their might. The monster evaded, but the girls were persistent. After several minutes of fierce struggle, Honidesu managed to hit its on the back paw, causing its to stumble. Bonnie quickly took advantage of this and swung her ax with all her might, cutting off the monster's head and causing it to fall to the ground. The stranger stood up, shook himself off, trembling slightly, and looked at the girls with gratitude: "Thank you very much..." "What are you doing here anyway?" Bonnie asked, looking at the masked man with bewilderment. "I have an important task... I collect the bones of mockers," he answered in a deep and raspy voice. Honi and Bonnie always fought these monsters and were a little surprised that someone was just collecting their bones. They were still a little wary. The stranger grinned: "I will be glad if you help me..." Bonnie's curiosity increased even more. She looked at him cautiously. "Help you, you say? And what exactly do you want?" "I need to cut off its bony paws," he hinted at the ginger's ax. "Could you give it to me for a little while?" Bonnie looked at the sinister mocker's body and then at the man, a look of slight surprise on her face. She looked at Honi and then back at the stranger. "No, we won't give you our axes, but I can do it myself." The masked man nodded. With a quick and precise movement, Bonnie brought the ax down in a fast arc. The ax swung up and down, over and over, cutting through bones. Finally, with a final blow, the monster's front legs were cut off. She handed them to the man. "Thank you! You helped me a lot!" he grinned, bowed and disappeared into the depths of the forest, taking with him the head of the monster. The girls looked at each other. "He's strange..." Honi said. Bonnie scratched the back of her head, looking a little confused. "Yes... definitely. I don't know if I should have helped him, to be honest. It seemed like he was hiding something from us..." Honi was still afraid of running into the police or agents and always looked around when she and Bonnie left the house or returned back to the city. Usually only Bonnie always went to the store for groceries or things, and Honi stayed with Zhmak. When everyone was home, Honidesu decided to turn on the TV and switch to the news, hoping that she had already been forgotten. The announcer was a middle-aged woman with long dark hair pulled back into a ponytail and deep-set eyes. She was wearing a well-tailored gray jacket and a white blouse. She sat at the table and began to speak in a clear, confident tone:  "Today in the news we will talk about a mysterious cult that is causing more and more unrest among the residents of our city. As it became known, recently corpses with messages written in an unknown language were discovered in different parts of the city. According to eyewitnesses, cult members conduct mysterious rituals and meetings, but no one knows what happens behind closed doors and what goals this mysterious cult pursues. However, the most interesting assumption is that the cult may be run by a strange girl with white hair who has unusual abilities. Who she is and what she wants remains a mystery. There are suggestions that she knows how to somehow control the sinister mockers. Local authorities have already taken measures to ensure the safety of citizens and have begun an investigation into this incident. We will monitor developments and keep you updated. Thank you for your attention and stay with us on the channel "News Today"." Honi and Bonnie looked at each other. "Honi, this girl... is that you?" "It couldn't be me! Someone framed me!" "Yes, I know. You were with me at that time... but... I think I got an idea!" "Which one?" "What if we try to find this cult and hand it over to the police? This way we can restore your innocence, I know it's risky, but we have no other choice!" "Why do all the problems happen because of me? Even when it's not me?!" Honi panicked. "Calm down, we will catch these scoundrels! We must restore justice! In addition, the cult could possibly have existed before your appearance... Zhmak will be our bloodhound!" When Zhmak heard his name, he began to wag his tail again. Honi looked at Bonnie uncertainly, she seemed a little angry that her best friend had been falsely accused of something she had nothing to do with. "But... how do we find them? Do you have any idea what will happen if the police catch me?" "I will be near! And if they imprison you, then I'll go to jail with you as a protest!" Bonnie said menacingly. Honi couldn't object, because the ginger seemed to be too serious... Evening came, the girls got dressed and went outside. They went to look for the darkest corners of the city, hoping to find at least some clues, Zhmak also tried to help them, tried to sniff out something. Honi was scared, because she knew that she was still being hunted, but there were almost no people on the street, and even if someone was, they wanted to quickly return home from work or school. After an hour of searching, they stopped in a secluded corner near the trash bins. The buildings in the city were tall and beautiful, there were even skyscrapers, but the street they were on now was very dark and dirty. There was nothing beautiful here, only piles of garbage scattered all over the street. The redhead tried to illuminate everything with the flashlight of her phone. "Looking for secret cults is certainly a hassle, not a single clue!" Bonnie sighed. Nothing was heard and it was really quiet until footsteps came from the darkness. Someone was approaching. The girls became wary and prepared to defend themselves. "Aaaaah!!!!" Bonnie screamed furiously. "Aaaah!?..." Honi repeated uncertainly. "Omg!" the man winced and dropped the garbage bag. "Henry?" "Honidesu?" There was an awkward silence that seemed to last forever. Henry looked worried and shifted awkwardly from foot to foot, apparently not knowing what to say. Honi looked down and folded her arms. "Is this the same Henry who wanted to bring his daughter back to life?" Bonnie whispered to her friend. "Yes..." "Honidesu, I was worried about you! Where have you been? Oh, it's good that you survived!" "I'm sorry I ran away without saying anything..." Honi walked up to Henry and hugged him. "It's okay..." Henry replied, his eyes starting to water a little. "I thought I'd lost you too..." The man wiped his tears, adjusted his glasses and turned to the girls again: "Do you want to come over to my place and have some tea?" "I think we can, we're a little tired..." Bonnie replied. Together they went to Henry's apartment. When they climbed the stairs to the 4th floor and approached the door, he took the keys out of his pocket. There was a clicking sound of the lock. Henry opened the door, letting them in. Honi's heart felt heavy from the memories of the time spent in this very apartment. The same walnut sofa, the same turquoise walls, the fluffy coffee-colored carpet... the computer... She tried not to show her feelings. They went into the kitchen. Henry made them some great tea and shared some delicious cakes from the store. This made Honidesu relax a little. "What are your friend's and cat's names?" Henry asked. "Oh, this is Bonnie, and the cat's name is Zhmak, they are my best friends!" Honi answered happily. "I was taking out the trash and didn't expect to meet you... What were you doing in a dark alley next to the trash?" "Actually, we wanted to investigate a mysterious cult in our city," Bonnie answered. "Oh my god... why?..." "Because Honi is suspected in the news! We can't let that happen! We need to somehow restore her innocence!" "I'm so glad you have such a noble goal. And Bonnie, thank you so much for caring so much about Honidesu." "And we're going to continue today!" the ginger said confidently. "But don't you think it's dangerous?" "We know, but Honi is already in danger, since agents and the police are hunting her, is it really worth hiding and waiting for the cult to kill someone else?" "Yes, I understand, but in such matters you need to be very careful so as not to become victims yourself..." "Henry, we have no other choice, either us or them us!" Bonnie answered. "Then I will try to help you with this and go with you." "Really?" Honi was surprised. "Of course, I am worried about you, and this way you will have a little more chance of not getting into trouble," concluded Henry. After tea, they went on a search together. This time, the girls walked along the streets decisively and persistently, Henry calmly accompanied them and looked around. They walked along alleys and back streets, which were often deserted and abandoned. Zhmak sniffed the wind, trying to catch any scent. Eventually, they came to a deserted corner, the walls of which were covered in strange symbols that looked like runes. Bonnie illuminated the bloody text with the flashlight of her phone."It seems to be something in a strange language that I don't understand... Looking at them with curiosity, they realized that these symbols must have been left by a cult, and that they could be a clue to their location. A moment later, Zhmak suddenly sniffed the air tensely. "Zhmak?" Honi asked. The cat began to run towards a certain place, leading the girls and Henry down a dark alley. They followed Zhmak, their hearts beating fast. They felt an overwhelming sense of excitement and fear, approaching the end of their search. Suddenly, Zhmak stopped. He was looking at the wall of the alley, as if sensing something beyond it. Black smoke was coming out of the building, flying through the air straight towards the forest. The friends approached the wall with anticipation and dread, wondering what they might find inside. They took a deep breath and pushed it... It was a secret door! The room was dimly lit and the air was filled with this black smoke. The floor and walls were made of concrete. The girls saw a dark-skinned woman with a blindfold, who was tied up and hanging upside down. She was tied to a thick rope suspended from the ceiling. Black smoke filled the entire room. They could not believe their eyes. Zhmak stood at a distance and also watched the terrible situation in shock. Honidesu recognized familiar features in this woman. "A-Aunt Janet?..." Honi's voice was shaking. "Cough-cough, hurry, let's get her out of there!" Bonnie said. Henry began to save Janet together with the girls. They were coughing because of the smoke in the room. Honi and Bonnie finally pulled the rope out of the wall hook and Henry carried Janet outside. Everyone's hands were shaking, but they managed to untie the legs, then the woman's hands. Honi untied Miss Harper's eyes, she was shocked. Janet's head was spinning and she didn't immediately see the faces in front of her. "Hey, are you okay?" Honi was worried. The woman sat up and looked at Honi and Bonnie, then recognized Honi. "Honidesu, honey, is that you?" Janet couldn't hold back her tears of joy. "Phew, Aunt Janet, I was so worried about you!" "How did you find me?" "Well... we have a good bloodhound," Henry scratched the back of his head and pointed at Zhmak. "Henry, are you here too?" the woman looked at him in surprise. "Well, there must be at least someone to look after the children," he answered. "Janet, can you tell us how you ended up in this place?" the ginger girl asked. "My name is Bonnie, I'm Honi's friend." "Well, it all happened very quickly, I just went out to get groceries... and then suddenly two strange men in black masks came up to me and just kidnapped me! They kept saying that they needed my body for some rituals and some other... strange things..." she started crying. Henry tried to calm Janet down, putting his hand on her shoulder. "I don't fully understand and don't know what rituals they wanted to perform... but I know for sure that they wanted to cause me great fear!" the woman continued. "Oh, this is terrible!" said Bonnie. "We have to find them and hand them over to the police!" "Please be careful..." Miss Harper answered fearfully. "I think we should take Janet home, and we'll continue the search tomorrow, it's too late now..." Henry said. "Yes, you're right..." agreed Bonnie. The ginger marked the place on the map in her phone just in case. Together they walked the woman home. Bonnie exchanged numbers with Janet and Henry. Then Henry walked Honi, Bonnie and Zhmak home. "Well, I'll be going then." "Be careful, Henry, if you get attacked, call us right away, okay?" Bonnie said. "Yeah, sure," Henry replied. "And Honi, I'm glad you're not mad at me." Henry smiled, Honidesu smiled back, and then he left, closing the door behind him. Honi sat down on the couch with Bonnie, she was thinking a lot about what was happening and it was really stressing her out. "Damn, I hate detective stories, and I ended up being part of one myself! But on the other hand... I even found it interesting, especially with Bonnie and Zhmak next to me... I hope that Aunt Janet won't fall into the hands of the cult members again..." she thought. "Why did they lock Janet in some strange building close to the wall and what was that black smoke? I have so many questions, but I still don't understand the logic of these cults..." Bonnie said thoughtfully. "Me too..." The girls unfolded the sofa, went to wash up and got ready for bed. Zhmak lay down in the middle between Honi and Bonnie.
