But he wanted another

In the evening, after school, Marinette was sitting by the window and looking at the city lights. She felt so alone, so unnecessary. Suddenly, she heard a familiar cat mewing.
“Cat Noir?” She whispered, looking at him in surprise.
“Hello, Marinette,” Cat Noir replied climbing onto the balcony easily.
“What are you doing here?” Marinette asked trying to hide her excitement.
“I came to visit you,” he told looking at her with concern. “I don't know honestly,” she whispered and shrugged her shoulders. “Such a confusing day.”
“Tell me?”
Marinette looked at him as if he were her native. She has loved him for several years after she realized that to love Adrian had long been meaningless. After all in fact, because of her love for him, she always makes catastrophic mistakes. The most important of all is the loss of the miraculoses. More recently, she entrusted the dog mascot to Felix — Adrian's brother — thinking that he was Adrian. He took Lady Bug's yo-yo and gave it to Shadow Moth. He was able to use this yo-yo to get all the other miraculoses except Lady Bug's earrings and Cat Noir's ring.
“Nothing special. It's just every day I run into the boy who was loved by me.”
“Oh, I'm sorry.”
“It's OK, it's just unpleasant.”
“And why did you love? Don't you do it now?”
“Already not...” she drooped.
“And why?” Cat Noir was really surprised she didn't have a relationships because of some asshole. “What did he do?”
“Nothing wrong,” Marinette waved her hands, making it clear that everything was fine. “Just because of this love…” she looked into the distance and realized how hard it was to remember the past. “I've failed.”
At that moment, Cat immediately realized how similar her situation was to Lady Bug's — he still couldn't forget how he comforted his partner and said all sorts of good words just to calm her down. After hearing this, he began to sympathize with Marinette even more. “Oh, I wish I could introduce her to Lady Bug...” he thought briefly lost in his memories.
Also, he has been in love with Marinette for a long time, because it became clear Lady Bug'd never look at him anyway, and he saw Marinette from the other side. She's wonderful, talented, kind, beautiful, generous!
“I'm sorry to bother you... I hurt you so much...” cat even pulled his eyes away.
“What?! No!” Marinette was so surprised by Cat's words she even started screaming so that he'd not think bad of himself. “It's not your fault!”
“I don't know, I see how hard it's for you…”
Cat Noir sighed, and Marinette began to shame herself in her thoughts.
“But not in a way you blame yourself.” She clamped down, «hugging herself» with her arms.
“You're right, I'm sorry.” He decided to not look away, but at his beloved.
Marinette smiled, and then offered a spontaneous idea:
“Maybe we should Go to get ice cream?”
“Yeah,” Cat was inspired, “and you tell me everything”
Marinette laughed.
“Would you mind?..” he asked when he came to her.
“No, no,” she smiled: finally, she will be close to her Cat in full force.
Cat Noir picked her up, jumped off the balcony and climbed on a pole very high from the ground looking for Andre.
“Do you see him?” Marinette peered into every crevice of the city from above, but because of her poor eyesight, she could see nothing. “I don't.”
Cat peered too, but unlike Marinette, he was a superhero and had great eyesight, even for a cat. “Yeah!” He pointed a finger at Amsterdam. “It looks like Andre will now walk near the sights to attract more attention,” Cat Noir laughed.
Marinette found this joke very funny, and she laughed too — in some part, because of the good humor of her beloved, and in some part, because of some kind of imitation.
They landed on the ground, right in front of Andre himself.
“Thanks,” Marinette said when he put it down.
“No problem.” He actually smiled.
They walked up to the ice cream man, and Marinette said:
“Hi, Andre! How are you?”
“Hello, Marinette and Cat Noir! Very good! What about you?” Of course, he was very surprised by the unexpected appearance of a very beautiful couple, albeit unofficial...
“Everything's lovely with us!” The cat laughed again, and Marinette laughed along with him.
“That's great! And in honor of this, I give you the most special ice cream...” Andre put blueberry and orange balls on the cone, as if anticipating the joint essence of the two lovers. — Blueberries for a beautiful and charming lady, and an orange for a good-natured and frivolous mister!” After these words, he handed them the same love shared between them.
“Thank you,” Cat Noir said and took the ice cream. “Have a nice day!”
“And you do...” — he wished them, and when they left, he finished, “young lovers.”
When they left, they started walking on the bridge. Cat decided to not beat around the bush and asked directly:
“Tell me, what happened to that guy?”
Marinette honestly didn't want to discuss this topic, but she understood that sooner or later she'd have to return, and she did't want to discuss it with herself, so she decided to dot the i's and cross the t's together with her beloved.
“Nothing special… It's just I used to love him, but… I couldn't tell him how I felt…” She felt uncomfortable again and clamped down a little. “And recently I found out he loves someone else, and I stopped feeling something like love for him…” and immediately looked away.
“And that's the only reason you don't want to be with him?”
It was at that moment he looked into her eyes and realized how hard it was to experience non-reciprocity.
“No… because of this love, I make mistakes that later cause pain to all my loved ones…”
Marinette was sad. She understood that she was unlikely to receive support from Cat Noir, because he in fact did't know her at all, although she'd so like his love for her. She's had feelings for him for a long time, but she hid it for his own good.
“Don't worry,” Cat Noir hugged her. “You can handle it, and if something happens, I'll be there for you.”
It was only at that moment Marinette looked at him, realizing she could completely trust her Cat, no matter what happened. They both smiled at each other and hugged harder.
“Thanks.” There was a look of caring gratitude in her eyes. “You're always a very good friend.”
“You're welcome,” Cat Noir tried to say it without any emotion, although inside he realized he could hardly be Marinette more than a friend, and he'd so like... “Well now,” he decided to somehow dilute the situation before everything got really bad, “tell his name?”
“What for?” She felt awkward, but she understood if she didn't tell him, then trust could be destroyed and after all, how could she be friends with him when he would feel distrust? “Is it… important?” Choosing her words carefully, she tried to not offend him.
“It's just interesting.” He shrugged shoulders. “No, if you don't want to do, you don't have to tell me.”
“It's okay, I can tell you.” She sighed. “This is… This is…”
Cat looked at her and wasn't at all surprised by her indecision. After all, when he's Adrian, he sees how she sometimes looms. He even smiled at those memories in his mind.
“This is Adrien Agreste,” she finally said, and looked at Cat for some hope.
After hearing this, the Cat's world collapsed. Inside, he loved Marinette and wanted to tell her about his feelings every second, but he knew that something bad could happen. So he even decided to tell her how Adrian was, but when he heard that name, he hesitated. “Does she not l-love me m-more? And w-what should I d-do?” He thought and sighed heavily.
“Adrien Agreste?” He repeated cautiously. «Well, maybe she was wrong?» he was still hoping, hoping Marinette had misspoke. And it would be very weird, but Cat Noir, inside of which Adrien was, didn't want to realize the bitter truth in any way.
“Yes...” «Now I love you, my sweet Cat, and Adrian, who disliked me and thought that I was just like a friend to him, has been gone for a long time.»
The words of his beloved girl hurt him very much, and he even felt his mind fog up. Even if the pain inside was growing and it was hard for him, he only showed it for a second.
“Oh, is that... your classmate?” he asked, although he knew everything perfectly well.
“Yeah…” this time she laughed: she was uncomfortable discussing past «relationships» with current ones.
“Well, this is…” Cat Noir tried to pull himself together, and he was very good at it, but the realization didn't give him peace, — very interesting.
“Maybe so,” Marinette shrugged. “In any case, I'll never relate with him as a girl, so what's the point?”
“You're right, but are you sure that he loves someone else?” He wanted to somehow exhaust Marinette's thoughts so that she'd think only good things about him.
“Yes, he said it himself.”
“But you could be wrong.”
“That's right but anyway, I'm transferring to another school and I'm unlikely to be able to see him.”
“What?!” Cat rather shouted it out. “Are you transferring to another school?!
“Yeah…”
“Why?! Just because of this asshole?!”
“Just not because of him,” she thought about it, “I'm moving soon and…”
“Are you moving?!” Not knowing why, he interrupted her. “Sorry for interrupting.” The cat lowered his eyes.
“It's okay,” she reassured him. “And yes, I'm moving.”
“Where to? And why?” He showed with all his appearance that he didn't want this, but couldn't do anything.
“To the neighboring area. And because my parents opened a new bakery there, and this one was sold very profitably.” Marinette sighed heavily. “So now we're unlikely to meet.”
“No way!” He shouted again. “We'll meet! I'll fly to you every day…” he promised and immediately thought: «Hmm, you won't be able to fly every day, because no one canceled school» and corrected his words, “more precisely, just not every day, but almost…”
Marinette laughed.
“I understand you,” and smiled.
“That's good.” Everything inside him has become very colorful, it makes sense to live. To live for her. “And don't worry about this egoist, he's not worth you.” He even hugged Marinette for the sake of realism, and he shrank in his soul: «Bitch, don't you understand?! You're turning her against yourself!» “And if you need support, then contact me, I'll fly to you right away!”
“Thank you,” she smiled again. “You're much better,” «That's why I love you so much...» she added to herself.
“Well, I really like to help and be with that… that is, I really like to help girls!” He was already blushing from the fact that he almost confessed his love for Marinette, although he was a little happy about it.
And she laughed again.
“I don't know who you help there, but your advice and jokes are very soothing.”
«Idiot, you just told her that you were flirting with other girls!»
Cat inside blamed himself for the above and even wanted to hide somewhere, but stayed for two reasons: first, Marinette'd have considered him crazy and definitely would not have accepted him as a guy; and second, he'd not be able to hide from himself, because Adrien'd always chase him wherever he wasn't there.
“No, no, Marinette, that's not what I meant at all!” He started to prove he said some bullshit that wasn't related to the truth. “I've messed up everything again! I was thinking about something else, that…” it was after that that he realized he backed himself into a corner, and either he'd confess the truth or lie completely. “Eh, it looks like I'm a jerk.”
“Why?”
“Now you think that I'm crazy, because I told you such nonsense!”
Marinette turned her hands in different directions. “I agree I didn't understand you, but you don't have to explain every word you say. And if you meant you meets other girls, then that's fine.”
“What?! But I don't meet other girls!”
“OK,” she nodded. “Then what were you telling about?”
Cat Noir was very clamped down, he didn't want to tell about his feelings at this very moment, because it was too early. Yes, he might miss the chance, but he wasn't going to talk. Or was he going to?..
