Chapter 1

Settings
Long-awaited vacation, and no less long-awaited merry weather! The boat rocked on light waves, the air smelled of salt and freshness, and through the clear water picturesque reef could be clearly seen. But it should be much more beautiful up close… Wendy couldn’t wait to dive in and start exploring it, relax and enjoy the unearthly, underwater beauty! Blue-eyed she-wolf looked at the water surface. Waves slightly rocked her boat, and the girl herself, enjoying the unusual atmosphere, began to undress for diving. Wendy wanted to see the reefs and fish under the water as soon as possible, she was eager to dive and see the underwater world, and the hot sun started to burn a little. So she didn’t hesitate and immediately began to put on suitable ammunition for visiting the planned attraction. Wendy put fins on her paws and a snorkel mask on her face. Of course, to get to the reef, you have to dive deeper than the height of the tube will allow, but the glasses allow to see everything clearly and not blurry. White wolf took a deep breath and began to descend rapidly toward the reefs. Flocks of beautiful small fish swam under her, tickling her stomach and hind legs. Once near the corals, Wendy couldn’t stop admiring this beauty. Wolf girl dived often, but each time she fell in love with these reefs as if for the first time. The fact that it was difficult to get to the thickets of underwater forests only increased the value of these impressions. More difficulties — sweeter the reward! Although the water, warmed up during the day, hugged and caressed like her mother, Wendy remembered her cunning, but the seaweed, corals, colored fish and wonderful sea stars beckoned her like sirens… When Wendy came to a small cave in the coral, she saw a Moray eel swimming out of its cabin, then coming back again, and so on several times. Lowering her muzzle lower, the girl saw crabs at the bottom of the sea, they were running on the sand and looking for something there. The wolf smiled as she watched them, imaging they were small children. Three medium-sized shadows moved across the sand. Wendy flinched and ran her right paw over the coral, and the bracelet flew off her wrist, but she didn’t notice, she was interested in the owners of the shadows. Lifting her head and squinting her eyes, she realized they were dolphins. Graceful creatures frolicked near the surface, playing catch-up, whistling and poking each other’s noses. What a pity she can’t understand what they’re talking about! And it’s all the more unfortunate that wolves don’t have as large a lung capacity as they do… Her chest was already beginning to feel hot and drawn, the first bubbles began to escape through his teeth and from the tube, and her heart was beating faster, its beat mixing in his ears with the hum of the sea. Wendy started to swim to the surface, but found a trickle of blood from her paw, and this scared the wolf. More bubbles popped out of the tube. Wendy quickly searched for her expensive black smart bracelet. And she saw it on one of the corals, being tasted by striped fish — apparently attracted by the glitter. Slight but increasing suffocation caused the wolf to lose her civility and succumb to predatory instincts. With a snarl of anger, Wendy released a whole bunch of bubbles through her teeth and darted towards the fish, startling them. Hind legs no longer paddled smoothly, they did so more sharply and started to twitch. Wolf’s stomach also already strained, light whitish smoke of suffocation began to swirl in her head. Swimming toward the bracelet, leaving almost imperceptible trickle of blood in her wake, Wendy dived to the bottom to pick up her bracelet, swimming into the thick seaweed, stirring it up. Grabbing the bracelet, the girl pushed her paws off the sandy bottom and swam to the surface. Because of sharp pressure drop, her right ear burst, water began to pour in. Sharp pain caused more bubbles to come out, lungs began to burn even more, chest felt like it was being chained up. It was getting harder to swim, and paws refused to row. Wendy was very much frightened, it seemed that the surface was already close, but it just seemed. Panic started to take over… Would one of her hobbies lead her to her death? Wendy managed to survive shootouts, jump from high-rise buildings during an explosion, and always the girl stayed alive. But then, she was fighting against a specific danger, knew the enemy, and was able to pull herself together and face it. And here… The enemy literally surrounded her from all sides, crushed, enveloped and reliably captivated. The sea still ruffled her fur pleasantly, straightened her mane and tail, and caressed her pelt… But now there was pain in her wrist as the sea salted the wound and ear kept shooting and twitching… But worst of all, a real fire in her chest, making her twitch and dance, roll her eyes and whine in agony without oxygen. Her head was growing foggy, and she didn’t know what to do… Even with excellent training, it was difficult to pull herself together and come up. Thoughts of a family and beloved began to wander into her head. Her strength was running out, and her body gradually stopped moving as she slowly began to sink to the bottom. Her hope of surfacing was plummeting, and the chance of being rescued was even slimmer. Although her mind was leaving her body, delving deeper into her subconscious and memories, Wendy was outwardly struggling violently but uselessly for life. Releasing the last, rare chains of small bubbles from her mouth, her arched, struggled, scratched, bit the mouth of the pipe, which could not give a single saving sip. Her eyes were blurry, her eyelids heavy and closing, and the poor female was beating harder, but less often… But suddenly the mind, struggling to get out of its agony, to give up, to swallow the water and finally drown, felt a touch on the wool — not a light embrace of water, but a soft, but sure, pulling up. His side felt warm. Wendy was dragged to the surface in a hug, and a pair of paws snatched the tube away and held it over her nose and mouth to steady her. Once on the surface, the savior threw Wendy onto the boat, and then climbed in himself. Dragon with golden fur removed the mask from the girl, and then pressed her chest several times with two paws. Wendy began to clear her throat, taking deep breaths, gulping air. Her head was still foggy, and she couldn’t see her savior clearly, but her happiness was boundless. Breathing rapidly, Wendy began to recover and settled into a sitting position. Dragon put a paw on her shoulder, the girl looked at him, through the fog in her eyes, she realized who it was. “M-Mirdal? Is that y-you?” Wendy said in a low, uncertain voice. The shaggy, long-maned dragon, disheveled and wet like herself, gave off a faint happy glow — everything was fine, and the winged one was happy about it. His face, however, was stern and his tone sad: “Why didn’t you tell anyone where you were going?.. In case something happens… and there’s no one around. I’ll never forgive myself if I lose you”. Unable to contain the rush of feelings, the guy hugged the girl, wrapping her in wings from the breeze, which seemed cool compared to his hide. Wendy clung to him as tightly as she could. She ran her paws over his back and arms, and her joy was boundless. Her wet tail began to wag with joy, and there was a smile on her face. Holding back the tears of being saved from death, Wendy said while burying her head against his chest: “You’re my hero… I’d be lost without you…” she said, tears streaming down her cheeks. There were a lot of emotions fighting inside her, and she couldn’t control them, which made her cling to Mird all the more, and her claws were digging into his body a little. But the golden one was more soothing than anyone else. He began to cry himself, but quietly, hoping that his tears would not be distinguishable from the salty drops of the sea, either in appearance, smell or taste. The long tail gently wrapped around the white wolf’s hind legs — I wanted to hug her even tighter, with my whole body, and not let go until the kind warmth of my native soul dries the fur. But, no matter how strong the dragon was, it gave out its emotional excitement with its drooping and trembling ears. He was shivering a little, too, not from the cold, but from the closeness of the one for whom he felt so many unspoken feelings. Wendy sniffed a little, wanting to kiss Mirdal. Moving slightly away from the dragon, the wolf looked at her hero’s face, his fur and mane sticking out in different directions, and Wendy grinned, but realizing that she didn’t look any better, she held her breath for a second and looked into his eyes. There was so much goodness in them, so much emotions. Wendy gave him a tentative lick on the cheek, and Mirdal twitched a little. “How… How did you find me?” The girl asked, holding onto powerful paws. Sharp pain in her ear reappeared, and she crouched down, clutching her ear with a paw that was dripping blood. “Your boat was empty…” the male drew back a little himself, so that his reaction to the kiss would not be immediately detected by touch. “I flew out after you to show you an interesting place under the reef, and it turned out that you…” he couldn’t continue the sentence, nervously shaking his brush, pushing away from his mind the dark and terrible images of what might have happened to someone he cherished so much. And he hugged her again, not holding back, but more carefully, trying not to touch her in the wrong place. “Oh, Mird. Since that’s the case, you have to travel with me on these extreme trips from now on. I’m not afraid of anything with you at my side”. Wendy chuckled and started stroking his neck with her paw. Mird savored every touch of his friend, and then added, “I don’t even know what to say…” “You should be tickled or bitten for something like this,” said Wendy a little firmly. She flattened her ears, realizing her big mistake. There was silence in the air, broken only by the cries of gulls and the sound of waves. The girl freed herself from the dragon’s gentle embrace, and then dusted off the water, splashes flying in all directions, some of them hitting the dragon. “Oh, I’m sorry,” the wolf said with a smile, wringing out her hair with her hands. “I forgive you…” he grinned, then slapped the water with his wing, ruining her efforts to dry off. “And myself, too!”
