“Hoseok, I dreamt about him again.”
“Really?! How long has it going to go on?”
The small wooden table where the two young men sat was lit through the window by the bright and increasingly warm April sun. Beyond the large panoramic glass was a pink street filled with cherry trees in full bloom. Leaves of small blossoming flowers on large, but delicate branches, one by one, were snapped off and, eager to leave their father’s house, set off on light gusts of breeze to travel along the nearest street. Spring warmth was pulling its hands closer and closer to people, and spring blossomed people’s hearts more and more like buds that had not yet opened after winter.
The two guys sat opposite each other, glancing alternately at the street behind the shop window, each time squinting and turning back to their opponent. They had their dailies and notebooks spread out on the table, but they were not even eager to get started on the tasks they needed to do.
“I don’t know, but I hope it ends soon.”
“Here’s your coffee,” another young man appeared next to the guys. He was wearing a black apron with a badge in the shape of a dog’s face, and he was holding a tray with two glasses. He took them one by one and put them next to each of them.
“Thank you, Jungkook,”
Yoongi
turned slightly to the younger man and smiled lightly at him.
“What time do you finish today?” Hoseok turned his head toward his younger brother as well, moving the flavored drink closer to himself.
“About nine o’clock,” Jongkook
replied, tucking the tray under his armpit.
“All right, don’t take too long on the way home, okay?”
Junior only smiled and took a few steps back.
“Have a good rest of the day!” he chuckled and quickly ran back behind the counter.
Hoseok raised his eyebrows and sighed.
“He’s so restless.”
“You’re overprotecting him, Jungkook is a big boy,” Min took a sip of a rather strong Americano and replied to his friend.
“Hyung, you know that if I don’t do this, he’ll do all sorts of things…”
To this Yoongi only shrugged his shoulders.
“Okay, let’s drop the subject, what did you dream about this time?”
After Hoseok saying that, Yoongi thought for a while, once again recalling the story of today’s dream, analyzing it and wondering if he should tell it. He was silent for a long time, so Hoseok called out to him.
“Hyung?”
“This time we somehow ended up in a field,” Yoongi spoke.
“A field?” Jeon asked puzzled.
“Yes,” Min nodded, “a beautiful field of flowers. There was just a sea of flowers.”
“Wow… This isn’t like the dreams you’ve had before.”
“Yeah, we’ve always stayed within the city limits before. But this time it was like a picnic. We were all alone in the middle of a sea of flowers, huddled on a small blanket.”
Hoseok listened to him and scrutinized him. He had known Yoongi for a long time, but almost every account of such dreams was usually unaccompanied by any hidden emotion. Except for a few.
“He appeared with a basket with food in it, and at first we sat in silence, but then we talked a little.”
“How long did you sit there?”
“Long enough,” Yoongi took a sip of coffee, “and then he lay on my lap.”
He slowly lowered the mug of drink from his face, trying to hide his rosy cheeks behind it as long as possible. Hoseok didn’t even need to see it, though: he could tell from the slight hesitation between words what kind of feelings his friend was feeling today. He grinned broadly in a smile of surprise.
“Wow! You guys!”
He raised his hand palm up and began to curl his fingers.
“You already went to the movies, went on rides, ate sweets, walked in the park, drank coffee in this coffee shop,” he began to extend his fingers back, “gave each other flowers, and now this!”
“Quiet, you!” Min hissed with rapidly scarlet cheeks.
“Hyung, are you sure you’re not hiding your real boyfriend from me like
this?”
“I’m not,” Min shook his head emphatically, “I’m only dreaming about
it… And that’s a big problem.”
“Yeah. Falling in love with someone your subconscious mind made up is a
big problem.”
After these words, an unresolved silence hung over the
table.
The door of the coffee shop opened, accompanied by the gentle tinkle of a small bell. A handsome guy in fashionable, austere clothes walked in, but there was something else that drew attention to him besides his beauty: bright blue, slightly wavy hair. Like a caravel, he strode to the counter, leaving behind him a barely perceptible trail of perfume.
“Welcome!”
After noticing the customer, trainee Jungkook
immediately stood up straight and smiled broadly. After a glimpse of the customer, he smiled even wider, literally thrilled to see someone else’s bright hair.
“Good afternoon. One large sugar latte and…hot chocolate. All to go.”
The guy with the blue hair carefully slipped his hand into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. His voice was velvety and caressing to the ear, as calm as crystal water in a pitcher.
“Sure,” Jungkook replied with a light and peaceful smile as he walked over to the cash register to punch out the check for the order.
“Would you like cookies or brownies? Dessert of the day?” he smoothly pointed with his free hand toward a small glass case with beautiful cakes next
to it.
“No, thank you,” the stranger still glanced at the sweets.
When he paid, Jungkook handed him the check.
“Please wait a few minutes.”
The barista added and walked away from the cash register, just as the stranger did from the counter.
“His hair was so beautiful and soft,” Yoongi said a little doomfully, “I don’t believe a dream can be so realistic.”
“Maybe it’s not a dream. Maybe you’re traveling to another world while you sleep! A parallel world where that guy lives!”
Yoongi laughed.
“That’s just nonsense!”
Jeon
smiled and shrugged his shoulders.
“Well, how else can you explain it?”
“You’ve seen too many romantic fantasy movies I don’t believe it. Whether it’s a dream or a different world…it doesn’t matter if it can’t be achieved.”
“Hyung, you always start your pessimistic conclusions! Love in every
forms and worlds is love!”
“Sir, your order is ready!” Jungkook peeked out from behind the counter after a while, eyeing the blue-haired customer. He stood up and walked over, picking up a double cardboard cup holder with coffee and hot chocolate.
“Thank you for your order, come visit us again! Enjoy your coffee-drinking!”
Jeon folded his hands in a lock and bowed.
“Thank you,” the stranger responded calmly, bowing slightly.
“How energetic,” the guy said with a slight smile. He got into the driver’s seat of a parked car that was not far from the coffee shop.
“Who are you talking about?”
There was a high and rather gentle voice of another guy sitting on the neighboring passenger seat. He took the drinks from his friend.
“The barista. He wished us a pleasant “coffee-drinking”. The energy is just pouring out of him.”
“Ha-ha-ha! Taehyung, you say that as if you’re a model of restraint and calmness yourself!”
Jimin laughed and took out his large latte from the cardboard stand.
“Really, is there such a word… “Coffee-drinking”…”
Taehyung took the remaining cup of hot chocolate.
“Okay, never mind. What was you want to tell me?”
Jimin opened the hole in the lid of his cup and took a sip of coffee. He exhaled and began to blur into a smile.
“Taehyung, I dreamt about that guy again…”
“What?” the guy raised his eyebrows, but quickly became confused and frowned slightly. “It’s been going on for like a month now, it’s weird.”
“I agree.” Jimin nodded dejectedly. “But I like him so much…”
Kim looked around at his friend squirming in the leather seat and once again decided to give up trying to talk sense into him. There was too much happiness nearby.
“What was in your dream?”
“We were at a picnic in a sea of flowers!”
Park opened his eyes, literally glistening with the joy of the memories.
“Wow… Another date again…”
“We were talking about something, and then I got tired and laid my head
on his lap.”
Taehyung flinched at that, turning to look at his friend.
“What?!”
“Come on!” Jimin shrieked in embarrassment.
“Actually, I was joking when I told you to try some active measures…”
Park blushed even more and covered his face with his cup, sipping his coffee.
“So what! They’re just dreams anyway, who cares what’s going on in them?”
He grimaced and looked away, staring at the coffee shop sign.
“Even if I kissed him, he wouldn’t exist…”
After a brief pause Taehyung decided to change the subject.
“How did he react?”
“Who did? Ah…He started stroking my head.” Jimin said with a slight smile again. “It felt so good. I haven’t felt like that in a long time.”
Unable to find anything to say to that, Kim silently continued to drink his hot chocolate. Only later on the way home Jimin did mention the coffee shop again:
“When will you be free again?”
“Why?” Taehyung said, looking down the road.
“I want to sit in this coffee shop with you, the coffee’s good.”
The cherry trees continued to blossom, and every day it became more and more beautiful outside. People went out early, came back later, took longer walks. They swept cherry petals out of every crevice, caught them and just admired the blossom.
“Here’s your coffee.”
“Thank you, Jungkook.”
Yoongi again thanked his friend’s younger brother, with whom he once again sat at a table in a small coffee shop, for a good strong Americano.
“Don’t stay out too late tonight.” taking his glass, Hoseok said.
Jungkook cradled the tray under his armpit and frowned slightly, pouting his lips.
“Yoongi-hyung always says “Thank you” to me for coffee, and all you do is tell me to come home early all the time!”
“You!”
Hoseok jumped up on the spot, but Jungkook was gone from their table at that moment. He ran behind the counter and hid behind the coffee machine as if tucking his tail. Min burst out laughing.
“Ha-ha-ha!”
“Why are you laughing,” Hoseok sighed and sat back in his chair, “that Jungkook…has become uncontrollable.”
“Yeah,” Yoongi grinned, “he reminds me of someone.”
“I wasn’t like that. And I respected my elders.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he chuckled again.
“Whoa! Woah! It’s nice here!”
“Jimin, don’t shout like that, because everyone will be looking at us.”
The coffee shop bell rang to announce the arrival of new guests, but they had announced it before it did. Jimin, mesmerized by the minimalist routine, looked around the coffee shop, glancing left and right, from poster to poster, from dust to dust, until Taehyung
appeared right in front of him.
“If we’re going to get squinted at, it’ll be because of your blue hair,
not me!”
Jimin showed him his tongue.
“What about you! Where’s your natural color?”
Before Taehyung could even raise an eyebrow, a friendly smiling face appeared from behind the counter, followed by a pleasant, inviting voice said:
“Welcome!”
When he saw the familiar blue-haired visitor, Jungkook raised his eyebrows in surprise, and then reduced the effort put into his smile. By now, he was not only looking around at him, but also at Park.
“Wow, is this
the barista?”
Jimin smiled and hurriedly walked over to the counter, looking at the younger man with the interest of a child.
“Yes, he is.”
Taehyung replied on an exhale as he came closer.
“Jeon.”
Jimin affirmed, reading it on the barista’s nametag. “What’s the name?”
“Jungkook!” a low and pleasant voice suddenly came from the other end of the almost empty coffee shop. Looking directly at the younger man, Yoongi was rubbing the rim of his coffee cup with his finger with a smile. “You forgot to put the sugar in for your hyung!”
“Oh, my gosh!” Jungkook immediately flinched, feeling both embarrassed and annoyed. He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked out from behind Park’s back. “If he wants it so badly, let him come and get it himself!”
But no one else heard the cry except Taehyung and Hoseok. Jimin, who had turned around a few seconds ago, froze like a marble statue without blinking or breathing. All he could see now was Min Yoongi. The one he had fallen in love with at first sight. The one he had so desperately and hopelessly dreamed of ever seeing again.
“It’s you!” Min and Park shouted at the same time, looking at each other. Yoongi’s frozen heart skipped a beat the moment he saw the object of his secret wishes. Overcoming his daze, he jumped up from the table and headed towards the boy.
“What?! What?!”
A surprised Hoseok
jumped up after his friend, only he wasn’t going to rush to meet the stranger.
“What’s mean “You”?!”
The equally surprised Taehyung had no sooner grabbed his friend by the collar than he was already halfway to “him.”
“Chocolate hair…”
“Peachy hair…”
“Cute…”
“Beautiful…”
“You’re just like in my dream!”
After shouting this in each other’s face, the out of breath Yoongi and Jimin stood in the middle of the coffee shop with their mouths open, staring at each other. A sepulchral silence hung in the room for a few long seconds before the air was cut by someone’s exclamation again.
“I’m Park Jimin, and I love you!”
Bowing almost waist-high and clasping his eyes, Jimin shouted as if to nowhere.
“I’m… Min Yoongi, and I love you.”
With obvious excitement but with utmost seriousness, Yoongi bowed in response, uncharacteristically raising the volume of his words as if he was pounding them into the air.
Slowly straightening up and noticing the same gesture from Park, Yoongi took another step closer and pulled him to him, hugging him tightly and warmly. It didn’t take long before Jimin pressed in harder and happily hugged him back.
“Wow…” Hoseok’s voice sounded a little confused and excited from the table.
“Who would have thought…” Taehyung said equally confused.
“What? Who would have thought about what?! What do you mean “love”!” Jungkook, who was the most frightened and uncomprehending of all, looked at his hyungs and the strangers with colored hair with open eyes and mouth. What worried him was the fact that everyone understood everything but him. “Yoongi-hyung… What’s going on, I don’t understand anything!”
Taehyung looked at Jungkook, who was discouraged by Yoongi and Jimin’s antics, and lowered his gaze for a few seconds. Then he perked up a little and stood in front of him. Feeling the momentary tension of the work environment, Jeon pulled himself together and stared at him intently.
“One large sugar latte and a hot chocolate, please. We’ll sit inside. That’ll be all.”
Now already surprised that the entire explanation for this situation was a simple drink order, Jungkook stalled for a few seconds and then went straight to the cash register.
“Yes…of course.”
“Jeon Jungkook.” Taehyung’s face suddenly showed an unpredictable,
charming, but sly smile.
“What?” Jungkook shifted his interested gaze to him, unable to take his
eyes off the beauty.
“What time do you finish today?”
