I want to be your shield and armor.

I went into our stateroom and started preparing a present for Clay. I went into the closet and pulled out the bag, checking to make sure everything was there. Everything's there. I got out my suit, some lubricant, a few other interesting things, and started to change. As soon as I take off my T-shirt, my mother comes into the stateroom.   “What are you doing, Lance Richmond?” She asked, noticing the not-so-decent things on the nightstand.   “It's not what you'd think!” I tried to get away with it, knowing what would happen.   “You slut. I knew you never cared about your family!”   “How could you not care about me? You abandoned me and only when I graduated from the academy did you say: Oh, Lance, come back to the family, we love you, we had to abandon you because of problems, but now the problems are solved. And when you have a sister, there's no problem! I'm so sick of this! You're always thinking about yourselves. That's why you have no friends, but I found real friends who replaced you!”   “Real friends? Ha! You'll never have real friends! You're pathetic. I'm sure Moorington is just using you. You're just a toy to him. He'll play with you, dump you, never even bat an eye once he gets tired of it.”   “He's not like that! Just because your husband did that to you once doesn't mean my husband did it to you.” I put my hand over my mouth and looked at my mother with fear.   “So you admit you're dating him?” She walked around me. “That's nice. It's just a shame it won't last. You'll lose it all.”   “Stop it! I don't want to hear it from the man who dumped me!”   “You obnoxious boy!” She took a swing as I pushed her down on the bed, hitting her with a pillow.   “Stupid, stupid mother!”   “Little thing, do you think I wanted to be like this?! You should never have been born in the first place!”   Those words hit me hard. I'm slowly coming down to my knees.   “What? Just one word broke you? You've always been so pathetic. I even regret leaving you.”   “So why didn't you have an abortion? Why did you leave me? Why do you make me suffer?”   “Should I call my father to calm you down so you can be a little more grateful?”   “Why?!” My voice became a scream. “Why did you leave me if you didn't need me?! What did you do to make me grateful?!” Tears were streaming down my face. “Other kids have loving parents, birthdays, presents, cake and candles, and all I get is humiliation forever!”   “You asshole! Is your life that bad?” Out of nowhere, my father came into the stateroom and started hitting me. Mercilessly. My body shook with pain. I tried to cover my stomach so the baby wouldn't get hurt, but my hands wouldn't listen. I don't know how long it went on, but I was already losing consciousness. My back and arms were burning. The pain of the beating was replaced by another pain, but it didn't last long, because I heard Monstrox's voice.   “What's going on here?” He was clearly angry. “Get outta here! Are you going to beat up my... Uh... Fiancée?” He stammered a sentence. “It doesn't matter. Just go away and don't let me see you around him again!”   My parents left, and I was left lying on the floor, trying to regain my senses.   “Lance, are you okay? Can you stand up?” Monstrox sat down next to me.   I tried to get up. My whole body shuddered and ached like a thousand needles.   “I don't think so.”   “I got it." He gently helped me sit up and put his arm around me, one hand planted on my knee.   The former necromancer lifted me up and sat me on the bed.   “Why are they doing this to you?”   “They...They...They...I…” I couldn't string together a word.   “You don't have to go on.” Monstrox covered me with a blanket. “You sit up, recover, and I'll go get bandages. Don't hurt yourself any more. Clay should be back soon.” He said before he left. “You're very important to him.” He closed the door behind him.   I slowly raise my shaking hands. My mind immediately flashes back to when I was twelve years old. What did I do to deserve this treatment? What bad things had I done to them? But I guess I'll never know the answer to that question.   “That's what happened." Lance finished his story.   My father finished dressing and bandaging the wounds.   “That's all. Now rest." Father was about to leave when Lance said:   "Thank You. For everything.”   “Lance, please call me dad, okay? We're family.” Dad said. You're too, Clay. You don't have to call me dad so formally. Just Dad, okay?”   “Okay, Dad.” We said it with glee.   “That's good.” He kissed us on the noses. “Love you.” And he left.   My boyfriend lay down, and I lay back, holding his head with my hand and stroking his head with the other.   “Clay, I'm scared. I'm afraid I won't be a good father." I looked at him confused. "What if I snap and yell at the kid or worse, hit him? What if I become like my parents?”   “Lance, parents pass on inheritance, not destiny. Look at me. My father was a necromancer, but I'm a knight.”   “Your father wasn't around when you were growing up, so you didn't become like him, but my parents have been with me all my life. Except for the years they left me.” He said the last sentence quietly, but I heard it.   “Babe, it's okay. I'm responsible for what happened. I want to be your armor and shield, but I can't. Maybe I'll be a bad father. Maybe I'll just abandon you like my dad did.”   The guy turns to me.   “What are you talking about? You're not like that! Even if your father abandoned you, you wouldn't do the same!”   “You said what you want to hear.” I kiss him on the lips. “You'll be a great father; you just need time to get used to your new role. You'll see. You'll be fine.”   “You think so?”   “I'm sure.” I put my hand on his stomach, stroking it gently. He squeals. “Who do you want?”   “I want a girl. In case she wants to be an actress. At least someone in the family will be able to fulfill his dream...” We change the position to be more comfortable.  “And you, who do you want?”   “I want a boy. You know, it doesn't matter what we have. A boy or a girl. The child can choose what he wants to be.” I kiss his ear, slowly moving down.   “As long as he grows up healthy." Lance rested his head on his shoulder, tilting it a little, opening his neck for kisses.   “We'll keep him safe until he's older." I pull away from him quickly, hearing familiar voices outside the door.   “Looks like Monstrox brought someone else. I hope it's someone we know, except for strangers waiting for you and then attacking.”   “You're that worried about this?”   “I don't want to lose you.”   Just as I was about to say something, the ship shook, and then we were in freefall. I don't know how high we were, but we hit the ground quickly. The last thing I heard was people screaming. The last thing I felt was a hard impact on a hard surface.
