A book summary is a brief overview of the content of the work, intended for potential readers and publishers. This text offers a description of the most important aspects and features of the book, including its genre, main storyline, and main characters. In your abstract, try to take these questions into account:
1. Where and when does the action take place?
2. Who is the main character/main characters?
3. What is the hero’s goal?
4. Who is the antagonist?
5. What problem does the hero face?
6. What is the ending?
The abstract should not be several pages long; a few paragraphs will suffice. But it shouldn’t fit into a few words like “very funny.” Here is a good and complete example:
The Shining Mind is a gripping novel that immerses the reader in a world of mystery and intrigue. The main character, Adrian Blake, a brilliant philosophy professor, finds himself entangled in a network of unsolvable mysteries that trouble his consciousness and tear apart his everyday reality.
At first, it seems that everything started with inexplicable things happening around him. Bizarre phenomena arise in his life that seem to violate the laws of physics and logic. But as the plot develops and as he delves deeper into the exploration of the secrets of the past, it becomes clear that the answers to all questions lie in his very mind.
Penetrating into the fiery labyrinth of Adrian’s thoughts, the reader is faced with enchanting memories, providences and ancient secrets. The gradually dissolving border between reality and fiction forces our hero to question the essence of existence and the role of consciousness itself.
With each discovery he experiences, the main character begins to plunge into the abyss of despair and loneliness, looking for a way out of the labyrinth of his thoughts. As Adrian reveals his deepest fears and desires, he discovers that sometimes true wisdom and enlightenment can only be found through a bitter internal battle.
Mind Shining is a journey that forces the reader to ask timeless questions about the nature of the mind, self, spirituality, and the meaning of life. This philosophical thriller will attract the attention of many readers, lovers of mysteries and those who are ready to open the windows of their souls to the light shining through from the objective world of facts into the arms of the subjective world of reflection. “Radiance of the Mind” is a journey into self-improvement and liberation from the shackles of familiar reality.
As you can see, the content of the annotation may deviate from what is proposed; it often includes a brief retelling of the plot, but if you want to give the reader an understanding of exactly what to expect from the work, it is advisable to answer all or most of the questions.
Of course, a lot depends on the genre. In this article I do not consider articles and genres like this. The difference is also evident in the author’s description. In genres such as fantasy, detective, romance, information about it is not so necessary. The essence of the work is more important to the reader. But if we look at the same article, the public is interested in knowing how well the author understands the topic.
In journalistic genres, you need to indicate the purpose of the work, the benefit that it will bring to the reader if he reads it, and its distinctive features from other works written on this topic. In this case, you must show the uniqueness of your article.
