Part 3. The Corporation of Strange Creatures

Settings
In a world where the sun gently kisses the Lavender Lagoon, Kyle, Jennifer and their little son Mikey were celebrating a long-awaited vacation. They dreamed of the serenity that the lagoon promised them, with its enchanting landscapes and gentle sun. But their dreams crumbled like brittle glass when Mikey disappeared without a trace. In an instant, their peaceful rest turned into a nightmare. The city of Carter City, usually quiet and calm, seemed to have gone crazy. Everyone was talking about a ghostly artist whose paintings predicted fate. Kyle, torn with grief and despair, has found a strange artifact capable of projecting past events. To his horror, he saw a terrible picture on it — his son, kidnapped by a dark shadow. Jennifer, unable to put up with the inaction of the state, decides to take a desperate step. She sneaks into her secret bunker, hidden under an ordinary garage, and activates a portal to Mironet, a virtual reality where the secrets of the real world are hidden. Wearing a helmet, Jennifer plunges into the depths of the Mironet. The virtual world, like a gigantic Frankenstein, is made of information. Jennifer finds herself in an overgrown maze where ancient ruins can be seen. The path is blocked by treacherous traps and creepy monsters — creatures of darkness, called Rage. In this world, she must find her son, overcoming all obstacles in her path. In a world where virtual reality and physical essence are intertwined, Jennifer, guided by maternal instinct, desperately fights the monsters of the Mironet. This virtual world simulating death gives her a second chance. Solving puzzles, she moves towards the ruins, where she meets an old man, the keeper of secrets and wounds, who is stuck in this reality. “You came as I expected,” he croaked, “You want to know what’s waiting for your baby, but…” He cut off the sentence, and Jennifer, shocked, asked: “Who are you? How do you know everything?” He burst out laughing, “Ha ha ha, it doesn’t matter. You can’t change your destiny. Not you, not me, not anyone else,” he said wistfully. Jennifer felt a wave of horror sweep over her. She wanted to find out the truth about her son, about the mysterious artist and about the old man hiding in the labyrinth of the Mironet. But at the same moment, she heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and saw a shadow approaching her with a brush in her hand. Jennifer, cowering in fear for her son, did not give up. “Who are you?” she exclaimed, looking at the old man with hope in her eyes. — And what can you tell me about my boy? The elder, whose face was covered with scars like a map from a lost world, grinned: “I am the guardian of these ruins, forgotten by time. And your boy… His fate is linked to mine, like threads in the fabric of the universe.” Jennifer couldn’t believe her ears. How could this old man, buried in the virtual labyrinth of the Mironet, know something about Mikey? “Tell me,” she said, trembling with excitement. — What do you know about my son? She approached him, but suddenly felt someone grab her by the shoulder. She turned around and saw that shadow had crept up to her with a brush in his hand. The elder froze, as if remembering something long forgotten. “Many years ago,” he said, “I was an artist. My paintings opened up the future, and I was famous as a “ghost artist.” Jennifer trembled. “Is it impossible that this elder is the same ghostly artist that is rumored?” “One day,” the elder continued, “I painted a picture that depicted a boy running through a lavender field.” “It was Mikey!” Jennifer screamed. “Yes,” the elder confirmed. “I saw his fate. He was supposed to be a great artist, just like me. But…” The elder hesitated, his face clouded over. “But what?” Jennifer asked anxiously. “But darkness has come into play,” the elder replied, “A darkness that wants to devour all the worlds. She stole the boy to make him her tool.” Jennifer clenched her fists. “Where is he?” she screamed. The elder pointed to an ancient artifact standing on an altar in the middle of the ruins. “The key to his release is in this artifact,” he said. “But be on your guard. The darkness will set traps for you at every turn.” Jennifer grabbed the artifact. There was a fire of determination in her eyes. “I will save my son,” she vowed. —Even if I have to die.” “He’s in Stars, the forbidden city, he’s lost in the bowels of the Mironet.” The elder disappeared, leaving only a shadow and pointing to a rusty door leading into the darkness of the ruins. Jennifer gathered her strength and grabbed the key. In the next instant, the walls of the pit converged, plunging her into absolute darkness. She found herself wounded and exhausted in some kind of corridor, where there was only a door overgrown with plants that could attack her at any moment. She carefully approached the door and took the key, but immediately wild plants began to tear her clothes, but she managed to get out of this corridor and found herself in a huge hall. In the depths of the gloomy hall, on a black podium, stood a statue of a mysterious artist. Green fire radiated from its empty orbits, illuminating the gloomy atmosphere. The statue suddenly froze. “YOU HAVE DISTURBED MY PEACE,” A terrifying voice thundered, “DISAPPEAR BEFORE I TEAR YOU TO PIECES.” Jennifer, undeterred, said: “I came to free my son. And I will not back down until I find out the whole truth.” The statue of the artist trembled with rage. “Really? Do you long to know the terrible truth?” he yelled, “Then meet your fate.” Jets of green acid flew out of his palms, heading towards Jennifer, the acid devoured her clothes, exposing her in front of everyone, but she quickly bounced back using her skills acquired in games. Exhausted, but not broken, Jennifer defeated the ghostly artist. The statue crumbled to dust, leaving behind only a shimmering portal. “The Forbidden City is behind this portal,” whispered the shadow, you will appear out of nowhere. “But be careful, the most deadly test awaits you there.” Jennifer, without hesitation, stepped into the portal. The Forbidden City was plunged into darkness, stained with the blood of biomass. Eerie screams and groans rang out in empty alleys, mutants tore apart the bodies of unhappy people, immortals penetrated into parallel worlds, distorting reality. The calls of the dead were heard here, cameras were installed here that recorded the horrors of this world, different from ours. Jennifer, obeying her mother’s love, made her way through this darkness, approaching the ancient castle, which hid a secret organization, the Corporation of Strange Creatures. Penetrating inside, she suddenly heard the voice of her boy, “Mom!” shouted Mikey, imprisoned in a capsule that was enveloped in green energy. She was terrified and did not know how to release this capsule. Jennifer rushed to her son, but touching the capsule stopped her with a powerful barrier. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get through,” someone’s voice rang out from the darkness, “And he’s ours now!” Jennifer, enraged, attacked the barrier, she applied all her knowledge and skills acquired in the mironet, she also activated an artifact given by Kyle, which radiated a powerful shock wave. The barrier cracked and began to crack. Jennifer broke through to Mikey, but at that moment something incredible happened. Time froze, and then stopped completely. The world around them remained motionless, as if painted on canvas. Jennifer whispered, looking at the frozen figures around her. “It’s a time loop,” replied a Shadow that appeared out of nowhere. “The Corporation of Strange Creatures locked us in it so that we couldn’t interfere with them.” “But how do we get out?” asked Jennifer, feeling despair squeeze her heart again. “There’s only one way,” Shadow said. “You have to find the source of the time loop and destroy it.” “Where is it?” Jennifer was ready to do anything to save her son. “In the heart of the Forbidden City,” the Shadow replied. “The main enemy is waiting for you there—the Cyber Brain.” Jennifer, without hesitation, headed to the heart of the Forbidden City. She knew that this was her only chance to save Mikey and break out of the time loop. The heart of the Forbidden City was a huge hall filled with humming cars and flickering screens. In the center of the hall, on a metal throne, sat a Cyber Brain. “You dare to disrupt my plans?” His mechanical voice boomed. “You’re going to pay for this!” Powerful streams of energy lashed at Jennifer, but she eluded them like a dancing shadow. The battle with the Cyber Brain dragged on, exhausting all forces. The thought of Mikey, of his fate, of the fate of the whole world fueled her will, not allowing her to give up. Suddenly, Jennifer’s gaze fell on an artifact flickering on one of the screens. The very source of the time loop that she was so desperately looking for. Gathering her last strength, she rushed towards him, outstripping the furious attacks of the Cyber Brain. Grabbing the artifact, Jennifer squeezed it in her hand. The world around him trembled, shimmered, and, like a mosaic, crumbled into fragments. When Jennifer woke up, she found herself in her room in the bunker. Kyle was sitting next to her, looking at her anxiously. “What happened?” she asked, feeling lost. “You’ve been in the virtual world for too long,” Kyle replied. “I turned you off so you wouldn’t die. Mikey?” “He’s here,” Kyle pointed to the door. Running out of the room, Jennifer rushed to her son, who, fascinated by the video game, did not even notice her departure. “Mom!” he exclaimed, running up to her and hugging her. —I’m so glad you’re okay!” “Me too,” Jennifer whispered, hugging him to her. “Where’s the Shadow?” asked Mikey. “He stayed there,” Jennifer replied. “He helped me save you. “I’ll never forget him,” Mikey said. Jennifer smiled. She knew that she would never forget her battle with the Strange Creatures Corporation and her journey into the virtual world. But she also knew that the most important thing was her family. And she was glad that they were back together. Jennifer looked at her room and grimaced. Everything looked somehow unnatural, as if she had seen it somewhere before. She picked up the draft and continued reading. With each sentence, the feeling of deja vu intensified. “It’s impossible,” she whispered, feeling a chill creep over her. She read the text again and realized that it was not just a draft. It was a scenario of her life, written by someone else. “Who wrote this?” she asked herself, looking at the piece of paper. Suddenly, she remembered the Shadow’s words: “Your fate has already been written.” “Did he really mean that?” — she thought. Jennifer rushed to the computer and began searching for information about time loops. “If my life is a script, then I must be able to change it,” she thought desperately. She looked through a lot of articles and forums, but found nothing useful. Dejectedly, she closed the computer and put her head in her hands. “What should I do now?” — She whispered. Suddenly, she remembered the artifact she had destroyed in the virtual world. “Maybe this was the key to changing fate?” — she thought. Jennifer picked up the draft again and continued reading. “I have to go back to the Forbidden City,” she decided. Jennifer arrived at her hideout and turned on the portal to the Mironet. “You’re here, I can feel you,” she shouted to the Shadow. A shadow appeared out of the darkness. “You want to go back to the Forbidden City,” he said. “Can you help me with this?” she asked. “Yes,” he replied. “But it will be very risky.” “I’m not afraid of taking risks,” she said. Shadow gave her his hand. “Hold on to me,” he said. Jennifer grabbed his arm and they entered the portal. Jennifer and Shadow found themselves in the center of the Forbidden City. “Look,” said Shadow, pointing to a huge metal sphere. “Is this the time loop?” she asked. “Yes,” he replied. “You have to destroy it.” Jennifer approached the sphere and touched it. “I believe in you,” said the Shadow. Jennifer closed her eyes and concentrated. She felt the energy of the artifact filling her. She opened her eyes and raised her hand. The sphere shattered into pieces, and the world around it shook. Jennifer woke up from a deep sleep and found herself in her room in the bunker. She looked around and noticed that everything was transformed. The walls have become different shades, and the furniture has acquired new shapes. She went to the window and looked out to see that the world had also changed. The trees have acquired different colors, and the buildings have become completely different. “I did it!” she whispered. “I’ve changed my destiny!” She smiled, feeling free and full of hope.
