An elderly man got into Azriel’s cab and asked to be taken to the local university.
- Are you a professor?
- I am.
- And in what field?
- I have a doctorate in history.
- I’m impressed.
- A lot of people underestimate this science. I find it necessary and interesting.
- When I was in school, I always liked history. Although I knew that the textbooks were often untrue.
The professor sighed.
- Children can’t know everything. Some things would be better if even adults didn’t know.
- I understand that. Still, history is a good subject. How long have you been teaching here?
- Since I was fifty. Before that, I worked in one of the educational centers in Moscow, we went on research… All that sort of thing. I’ve made a lot of discoveries. And then I got old and became redundant.
- It’s sad.
- But I like the department.
- I’m glad to see you’re being recognized.
- You know, my students are taking their midterm today. I don’t want to take anyone down. I love them.
- Lucky them. With you.
- I guess.
- Do they get paid a lot?
- It’s enough to live on. I even send a little to my son. He’s paralyzed, so now only his wife works.
- That’s very noble.
- Thank you. You know, it’s like you have a special voice.
- Why?
- I don’t know. I just feel a certain calmness around you.
- A lot of people have noticed that. We’re pulling up.
- You’re a good man. Thank you. I hope we’ll see each other again!
- Maybe.
No.
