Soft touches

From the very early morning, Mike jumps on the parents' bed with a loud yell and tries to wake them up. It doesn’t work, as usual, because when Ranboo finally manages to wake up and starts to cook breakfast, he falls asleep right at the table. Mike sighs and finishes eating what was managed to prepare.
When the time for lunch comes, Tommy arrives at their house. Of course, he comes to talk to Tubbo and Ranboo about something really important, but they are asleep again, so he plays with Mike for a bit.
“You slept for half of the day cause of your night things again?” he grins, when sleepy Tuboo comes to the living room “And how does it feel, Tubbs, huh?”
“Shut up” he yawns and leaves for the bathroom. Ranboo immediately takes his place, bends over a little bit to look into the room, and begins to make excuses “Sorry, we didn’t get enough sleep”.
“Dad, why don’t you sleep at night?” Mike stops doing what he is doing and comes closer.
“We were busy, little”.
Tommy bursts out with laughter and makes one of his stupid jokes again, to this sound Tubbo comes and threateningly pokes a toothbrush at him, while Ranboo strokes his son’s head. They can’t explain it even to Tommy. They can’t and don’t want to, because it’s only their business.
Tubbo sets Mike to sleep and returns to the kitchen. Silently grabs three cups from the table and begins to wash them, while Ranboo watches him. Water stops, but Tubbo keeps standing near the sink and seems to be staring at the wall.
“Is everything okay?” Ranboo gets up and comes closer. Stops right next to, but doesn’t touch the husband because he knows that he’s not tactile. Instead of this Tubbo touches him first: grabs the hand and pulls outside. “Hey, stop!”
In Snowchester it’s always cold and when Tubbo runs out to the backyard in one shirt, Ranboo sighs. Then takes two jackets from the hangers and throws one of them over his shoulders.
“Thanks” Tubbo smiles and touches the husband “Let’s go”.
“Where?”
“For a walk”.
Tubbo looks so small in this huge down jacket that Ranboo can’t resist. Just walks after him and listens to their steps.
“Do you know why snow crunches under feet?” it’s like Tubbo reads minds. They slow down at breakwaters, and Ranboo shakes his head — no. “Cause snowflakes’ spines break”.
They both understand that it isn’t the best joke, but they both giggle and continue walking. Tubbo’s hand holds Ranboo’s fingers tightly and again seems so small and weightless that he reflexively squeezes it tighter.
“Everything is okay or do you want to break my hand for some specific reason?” Tubbo turns around and smiles looking somewhere away. Ranboo freezes, bites his inner check, and finally says what was in his head for so long: “I don’t want to lose you”.
They never confessed about love to each other, because their family life literally started with simpler bills, but now this phrase sounds more important than anything. And they both understand it.
“Don’t be afraid” Tubbo lifts their hands to his face level and touches them with his forehead, butting them a little. “I will be with you. No matter what, Ranboo, always”.
“Thank you”.
Tubbo lifts his head, and their sights meet. Ranboo flinches: he is a half-enderman, it’s strictly forbidden to look him in the eyes because everybody knows what can happen. He flinches again when understands that Tubbo knows about it and does this on purpose. Hands clench tighter when purple particles begin to appear around and he hears in a half-whisper “Hush, Ranboo, hush. Everything will be fine”.
Particles start to disappear when he feels the palm on his cheek. Ranboo shakes his head and huddles close to the small heat source without breaking eye contact. Tubbo looks so tender and soft, from Tubbo’s look he doesn’t want to leave, shrink, or die. He believes Tubbo, he believes him more than himself and slowly leans forward.
“What’s your favorite film?” Tubbo suddenly asks.
“Oh, I don’t know?” it sounds like a counter question, and they bump foreheads. For Tubbo it’s casual — giving a sign of appreciation — and the world in Ranboo’s eyes darkens for a second.
“Such a shame, I wanted to watch it with you”.
“We can watch your favorite film”.
Tubbo nods and slightly turns his head to the side so he can see how their fingers intertwine. Ranboo’s neatly trimmed claws don’t leave any marks, but they both remember how each time there were multiple cuts on everyone’s hands. Tubbo decided that they needed to do something when they showed up on Mike.
“Your hair is ticklish” Tubbo suddenly giggles and leans away. His hand straightens one of the black strands and stops near the horns. They wear wedding rings on them because that’s comfortable and original, and… It was Ranboo’s idea, and he is so proud that Tubbo supported it.
“You’re cold” Ranboo sees how tremble husband’s ears, and pulls them back home. “Let’s go. We shouldn’t leave Mike alone”.
“But he’s asleep”.
“He can wake up. You’re so irresponsible!” Tubbo laughs quietly but follows him.
They leave jackets on the hangers and walk to their bedroom in silence. Change clothes and go to bed: Ranboo lays on his side of the mattress but Tubbo wraps himself in a blanket almost over his head and brazenly lies down on his husband.
“I thought that you don’t like unnecessary touches” he snorts when their fingers intertwine again.
“I like your touches, idiot” Tubbo giggles. “Never be afraid to touch me. I’ll never push you back”.
This makes his soul warmer. Ranboo carefully puts his palm on Tubbo’s head and feels that Tubbo moves closer, seeking more touches.
And they talk. About nothing and the most important things, about something that they’ve never talked about. And Tubbo looks Ranboo in the eyes because he’s not afraid of enderwalk; and Ranboo hugs Tubbo and inhales the smell of his hair, trying to do this as unnoticed as possible.
They kiss for the first time when the sun rises, and only after this decide to go to bed. In the morning Tommy and Mike wake them up, but they are too sleepy to react to this.
They can’t explain this. They can’t and don’t want to, because it’s only their business.
Notes:
I couldn't help but throw in a joke about snowflakes here. As soon as I found out that Tubbo has a country in the snow, it stuck in my head forever XD
