Dear Father Deku. How are you doing Father? I hope you’re well, it feels like it’s been so long since I have written to you, or maybe I just lost track of time, don’t chuckle at that, I know you are. Well I didn’t, but “time doesn’t wait for nobody”, I think I began to realize this, there’s so much we can do in one day, it feels more than a month has passed, maybe a hard month and a week, but you know the feeling all too well Father. How have you spent time in old Olden Forest? Being stubborn and doing all the hard work by yourself, I can tell, is winter you could give yourself a break, and please don’t start that “You can’t trust wood you haven’t cut” it is not forcing your back than yes you can, I hope the fairies aren’t cheering you to do the hard tasks…again, they help just so much, but they also are such gremlins, and please don’t tell me you started to seek trouble with Miss. Gohma again, every time we visit she servers me those looks, she must think I am the parent instead of you, she’s a nice old lady I don’t get why you got a pickle with her 'till this day. Okay maybe letting loose her grey-skin ants on your Goldstar berries wasn’t just “an accident”, and maybe planting baba serpents, in your basement, wasn’t just so you could harvest them, but she did give you mad scrubs seedlings, and you said they don’t have a magic aura, so they just look like…creepy eyes looking through leaves…that’s not any better Anyways I think Sky will surprise you with what he made for the Orina Festival, he didn’t let us take a glimpse of his sculptures, and io ne bugger project that he’s doing in the shed, maybe when we go there we can take a glimpse, you could also give us some insight into your progress Father, your sculptures were always amazing, and how is your partnership with Rauru? He is a wise fellow, I didn’t know he liked wood carving like you, I can’t wait to see what both of you will come up with, but if you don’t want to spoil the big reveal, like Sky, I understand, talking about wood carving, Wind has started to take a linking on it, it would be good if you gave the boy some instructions on how to manage his knife, Malon is worried about all the scratches he got. Both Hyrule and Wild have started to work with clay, and Legend and Four have helped them with coloring, they gave me a small charm, It’s a little “Deku Me” sitting on a Lily Pad, it’s adorable, I always smile when I see it in my key, and also one for Malon, it’s our Epona with a big silly smile, I didn’t know horses could smile like that, I think they want to make charms to all of us, they’re all creative, they already gave Twilight a little camera, with a flashlight popping out, they made it like that because Twi passed his mark of 100 photos taken. They will give Warriors a small trophy if he wins the fencing tournament, don’t tell him but, they will give him a charm even if he doesn’t. Legend and Four have been secretive about their little projects, they keep working on the basement to be even more mysterious, we won’t pry it, we’ll see what they came up with. Malon has been fine, mostly. She’s not ill or anything alike, she just never stops worrying over the children. It can happen so much in just a handful of months. I also can’t honestly, for such well-behaved kids, they do get into trouble, but most of the time the trouble seeks them, I’ve been curious to ask, was I ever difficult to deal with as a child Father? I always hear from their teachers and parents of their friends, how our children, some more than others, are a handful. I do recall Mido and the Twins being a handful, At least for me that is, But Saria always herded them before they could cause trouble, the same goes for me but, I wasn’t that much trouble, I think, what my children have been up to honestly, no broken bones this time, at least not their bones, that’s a story we better keep to another letter. I am getting too old to keep an eye on all of them, I hope you are ready for what’s coming your way Old Deku, the kids will want all of your attention, and I putting my hands up once they do, you’re the one that said " I raised 10 children alone, 8 Grandchildren are nothing” we are also bringing a new member of the family too, you’ll like him. Malon is also worried for you Father, she knows you’re strong farmer, just like her, but working alone can be dangerous, especially since the town is so far away from you, there’s is Miss Gohma but she doesn’t count on her, reasonably so, and father Talon, he is still working on the new ranch over Labrum, it looks promising but there are always doubts opening the farm to such different city. Our ranch, here in Hateno, has been under some renovation since you last visited that’s it, I think I mentioned in my last letter, but we are finally giving most of the boys their separate rooms, Sky, Warriors, Twilight, and Legend. We agreed the older ones would be the first ones, Four will share a new room with Wind, Wild, and Hyrule will still share theirs. But we still have to share the bathrooms, but we will manage just fine, I hope. While the rooms get ready they have been doing sleepovers in the game room, in the basement. Malon thinks it is not good that they stay there at night, some walls don’t have insulators, I am not sure why they didn’t add them, we will, once the renovations go down there. Other small annual renovations have been going in the Ranch, the cellar that needs a tanking, and outside nothing much new, some fences and roofs need to be replaced. Our herd grew since last spring, so Malon wants to modernize and enlarge the cowshed, so the cows feel more comfortable, the cuckoos' houses are also being renovated, and those feisty things were getting impatient for their new home, Sky helped to keep them at bay, Wild was too but… she’s still in her and Wind’s little prank war, so Twilight is helping in her place. Other not-so-boring news, do you remember when I auditioned for The Philharmonic Orchestra lux spirituum? Well, you, and Malon, were right about getting overly worried over one note slip, I got a callback. They want to mark down the four permanent players of each wind instrument. I am not sure how many other players I’m friendly competing with, Nayru’s wisdom guides me, I know that it is many contestants, I know from experience, experience from small concerts is still experience right Dad? But that just gives me more motivation to practice, I can imagine you saying right now: " I knew Saria giving you her Ocarina, would change thy world” or something like that. Am I wrong Father? I can’t deny that it did. I can remember the very first days of practice, how you would quietly enter my room, and I would try and hide I was playing it, despite knowing the whole house could hear me. “It’s an Old Instrument, no one plays nowadays” Then I got over that silly embarrassment and started to practice more comfortably. It brings me joy, playing along the quietest mornings…and disturbing said quietly. Can you remember the first days with Saria’s face of regret, almost every Sunday morning? I miss those days, your warm scolding, As you “appreciated” my eagerness to practice but " Not so loud in the morning child!” Well now I do get something similar, with eight different degrees of annoyance, Malon is very much used by now, she wouldn’t be by my side if she didn’t, I think it would be a different story if she heard me years ago when I first picked the Ocarina. I can remember some afternoons we spent the Dynrie clearing, now I wonder who named those clearings, and you. would listen to my studies, and you never judged, even if one of the siblings would tease me when my notes wiggled, then you would say in which areas I needed to improve, which it didn’t upset me as much as we Saria would teach me, favoritism much isn’t it? we would spend some time at the lake, you should bring the children there once, it’s a beautiful place, maybe even camp out, and then coming back home where you would make the best-baked goods, and then we spent the rest of the afternoon watching moving from those tapes only the twins could make it work, I still can’t make tapes work somehow, these memories make me miss home so much, the kids say that I a softie, whatever’s that is in today’s dialect, but I know I’ll never stop missing home when I away. Father, I have also been meaning to write you about this one dream I had recently, you always understood dreams better than anyone I know, and even if is too confusing to mean anything, I think your advice will ease my mind if only a little, it’s very vague and the more I think about it the more I forget bits of it, so I’ll write down most what I can remember; For the most part, I see through my point of view, I see an old path covered in vegetation, and around me, there’s a forest but it looks dead somehow, not the trees or any of the plants, but it felt dead and wrong, I kept walking for some time until I reached a beach, I could see the sky and it was grey, the waves were calm, I may have looked away and then I saw our family, my siblings, you, Malon and the children, they were all there and were looking at the ocean as well, and then they started to walk towards it, I felt fear and I started to hear something like a heartbeat, all of you submerged and I didn’t see any bubbles coming up so maybe no-one was breathing? I don’t know I was scared but I couldn’t move, I don’t know what was keeping me from following, and then I don’t know what happened but I found myself in front of Hyrule Castle, it looked older than I remember, I don’t know how I got there, but there the sky wasn’t just grey it was black and red and it felt wrong, I think I saw someone, but I couldn’t see their face, and the last thing I can remember is a small group, I can’t remember how many people, but they were facing something, that was in an open field. maybe that all happened in some minutes at best but ….it felt like days passed, well I was not sure what all that meant, maybe I just stressed out, maybe some parts of it like the castle it’s linked to the concert and my stress over it, maybe seeing all of you at the beach meant…well anyways I hope is just nothing, looking now I don’t think I should’ve worried so much, maybe I just relieving a movie I saw with Malon and took some scenes from it, maybe that’s it. I get a feeling I will have more of them, but I hope my regular ones stay for a while. I hope my brief remembrance didn’t make you fall, asleep Father, if I correct Saria will be there by nightfall, and she said that, and I quote; " If I see Old Deku sleeping on his rocking chair at night, with no covers that stiff-necked, I’ll give 'im a house arrest warrant, it’s winter for The Golden Sake’s!” But in all seriousness Father, I hope you’re taking care of yourself, I know things are tough up there, I watch the news you know? I say this every time I write you, but you are welcome to stay with me and Malon while winter falls there, we would be so glad if you did, we can discuss this more in Spring, but please consider this time, a change of environments will be good for you, that’s what you always told me isn’t it? Remember to take your medication, and don’t make Saria arrest you, the Winter is being harsh up there, and Mido is visiting you this Sunday, ask him to chop some wood for you, he needs some workout anyways, don’t tell him I said that.
