Chapter 2

He finally regained consciousness and found himself sitting outside on a narrow, completely vast street. The street was surrounded by stone and wooden houses, just like a river is surrounded by tall, unwelcoming cliffs. Cold, spiky wind hit him in the face.
Looking at his reflection in a nearby puddle, Kirill noticed something. He had absolutely forgot to change his usual clothes for more…time-appropriate ones. This, in fact, did not surprise him as somebody’d think it would — Kirill knew himself a complete slob, always forgetting and all over the place. The only thing saving the whole situation was his wardrobe only consisting of basic, natural colours (including, of course, black and white).
But it was time to get up and explore. The comparison of this quite lovely street with a river continued, as the street eventually flowed into another, bigger, more lively one. The boy could not believe his eyes; he had only ever seen all this in history textbooks.
Kirill’s walk didn’t last long, though; his path was blocked by a big man.
— Now hold up there, youngling! Don’t you know we need warriors?
— F-For what? — Kirill stuttered.
The recruiter laughed aloud, his voice going up in a condescending manner:
— For the war, of course! Don’t pretend you didn’t know about this. Now come with me.
