You and I

I throw my head back and howl,
I close my eyes tight and cry,
I open my mouth just to growl,
I move my legs just to try.
You circle above like a hawk,
You carry my heart in your teeth,
You have all bite but no bark,
You only give warnings to me.
I lie on my side in our bed,
You reach out a hand to hold mine,
I stare past you up ahead,
You whisper “We still have some time,”.
You plant a kiss on my nose to ease pain,
I close my eyes tight and bite,
You hiss, but you say “It’s okay,”,
I howl as we lay in the night.
I say “I just hurt you, why keep me around?”
You say “I’m not letting you go down and drown,”,
I say “I can handle it, I’ll be alright”,
You chuckle because you know it’s a lie.
You kiss me on my nose again “Oh, we’ll both die,
I at least want to die with you by my side,
You offered me home and you gave me your heart,
I never will leave the one to do that.”
