A languid, hatefully noisy evening, awfully quiet table. A seat by the window on the second floor is where dearest brother’s gloomy face won`t bother his eyes. Kaeya saw the distinct condemnation and contempt in Diluc’s eyes, but only when they met at the bar of the Angel`s Share. Diluc never said anything — Kaeya is an adult boy who is free to make his own decisions. And if today, as on any other evening, he chose to get worthlessly drunk to an obscene state, Diluc won`t object, he will only silently condemn. And Jean won`t scold at drunken captain who will shamelessly play around, even if he is caught right with a bottle in his hand, cheerfully walking with an uneven gait down the street. Because Keya is an adult boy. The melting body hardly holding on, and only the invigorating chill of Vision brought Kaeya back to reality. He vaguely remembered the events of the day, and he was ashamed that he had forgotten something important so quickly. After all, he had appeared in the tavern for some reason, and it even seemed to him that he had done something useful…but he couldn’t remember what exactly. Until recently, bard was sitting next to him. He was telling something cheerfully, stumbling over his own words and choking on rhymes. It seems that something about distant lands, about Liyue… but what does Kaeya care about everything that`s out there somewhere, if here is a glass of Death After Noon and such a native unfriendly Mondstadt. Town welcomed the stranger cordially, even despite the purposes for which Kaeya appeared here. He didn’t like the lingering feeling of regret for something he hadn’t done, for something he’d never wanted or chosen. The only thing he really hoped for was that his comrades didn’t feel the same way when they met. Kaeya notices that noise around him is starting to subside and he feels uneasy. If people started to disperse, it must not be sunset at all as it seemed to Kaye earlier. It was already getting light. And he realizes with regret that he too will have to reluctantly leave the tavern. He gathers the last of his strength and focuses his gaze on the glass. Now he will sit for a while and go home like an adult independent boy, which Kaeya certainly is. The liquid in the glass trembled slightly, and the bench opposite creaked. As soon as he looked up, his favorite swill immediately disappeared and turned out to be in the hand of a very entertaining lady. “Do you still drink this sinful muck?” She turned the glass around with a bored expression, raised it to the rising sun and was horrified to find that the drink was almost exhausted. Just a couple of small bubbles rose from the bottom of the glass and suddenly burst. Then she turned her gaze to the drunk Kaeya and thought about who was more flawed in this situation. The captain was barely thinking, but when he realized his interlocutor, he broke into a crooked grin. She is slightly shabby, and the nun’s clothes seem to have been put on in a hurry. “You’re late. Everyone has been gone for a long time,” he said almost intuitively. And it’s true, Kaeya remembers for sure that he didn’t come here alone. “I noticed,” her voice is hoarse, dry, not singing at all. It’s understandable: Rosaria as so good at hiding cigarette fumes, as any nun couldn`t sing in choir. “I am very lucky that because of your celebration, dear Barbara was too busy with her sister.” Yes, yes, Kaeya knows something like that too. He saw Barbara today, and Jean too. But somewhere in the distance, along with the others. They seemed to be having fun. “I escaped from duty to come here, do you hear, Kaeya Alberich?” She says with a slight irritation. She doesn’t like at all that the captain is thinking about his own. And in response, only a drawling, vile laugh, which only the most dishonest person in the world could laugh. And Kaeya certainly is. Her face softened as Kaeya’s voice faltered hysterically. Rosaria puts glass on the table and rises. If no one in this town is able to object to Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius, Rosaria will gladly wipe this smug, completely fake smile from his face. For his own sake.Chapter 1

Notes:
Why after all in legends of Jean, while everyone crowded around the table with food along with her, and Venti sat down at the bar - Kaeya sat alone and was in no hurry to join the general fun?
Pity is absolutely not the feeling that Kaeya evoked. It would be simply foolishly and indecent to think that a cavalry captain suddenly needs someone’s sympathy.
Certainly, this wasn`t the case.
Kaeya was doing everything with terrible indifference, as if he barely straining and all the captain’s work was easy for him.
Jokingly scaring newcomers or leading Master Jean on — he was always calmly careless. After all even if he is caught in a lie, cunning resourceful Kaeya will be able to turn everything around that way, so you will find yourself deceived again when slyly smiling captain has already disappeared around the bend.
Does such a intelligent and cheerful person need someone’s help? Of course not, Kaeya is able to cope with any adversity!
And Kaeya really liked that no one dared to dispute this fact.
Although…there was one lady, too obscenely hot for a nun. Do you know such girl? Brazen, straightforward, cruel and prickly from all sides…
