Imagine that you were Edward's girlfriend and he thought you were dead. *** On the one hand, he left you, said he didn't love you, why should you save him?.. On the other hand, it's Edward with whom you lived together for a crazy year, the year when you found out that vampires and werewolves really exist! And you loved him. And then he dumped you. How difficult everything is… In fact, there was only one way out — to go to Volterra and stop Edward from committing suicide. These thoughts haunted you all the time while you were packing up and flying on the plane. Generally all the time. You were tense, and no matter how Alice tried to calm you down, she couldn't do it. You couldn't relax and calm down when you knew that Edward wanted to kill himself because of you. * Alice drove you in her stolen car as much as she could. She was stopped by the police and then the girl turned to you, urging you to run so that you could save the one you love. Her brother, who, instead of believing the truth, chose the nonsense that Rosalie unknowingly told him. You jumped out of the car and shot forward like a bullet. You had to get out by the clock, but apart from the houses and the seemingly endless stream of people, you didn't see anything. Rushing to the left at random, you realized that you ran the wrong way and, turning around, rushed to the right as fast as you could, then up a steep slope, and then up a stone staircase. There was such a crowd that it was easier to die than to walk through it. But you couldn't delay a second. Pushing aside the people who stood in your way, you thought only about getting in time, and constantly muttered "no, no, no...". They looked at you like that, probably thought you were crazy to run and push like that. You wouldn't have survived if Edward had died because of your stupid act.: you were trying to find adrenaline, because Edward came to you as a vision only when you were experiencing a big rush of adrenaline. Finally, you ran out into the square, but then the clock struck noon. You looked at the castle doors with horror, seeing that they were opening. Edward was standing in the shadow of the room, untying the belt on his robe. Then the guy threw it off and took a small step outside. You ran straight to him, hoping that you would make it before he showed his strangeness to people. There was a fountain on your way, but you easily stepped on the side, and then stepped and ended up in the water. It didn't bother you at all that you got your feet wet instantly, that it got cold as soon as you got out of the water, the only thing that mattered to you right now was fucking Cullen! Edward took another step and his skin shone in the rays of the hot sun. You turned cold when you heard behind you "Mom, look, look!", uttered, judging by the voice, by some little girl. You didn't turn around, because it would have delayed you, even for a couple of seconds, but then you wouldn't have had time. With one last lunge, you flew straight into Edward, hugging him and feeling him hug you back. "Into the shadow, into the shadow! Hurry into the shade!" you whispered with fear, feeling the horror growing inside you at the thought that someone saw him after all, except for that girl. The girl is unlikely to be believed, she is small, but if it is an adult… "Y/N…" You literally shoved him into the cool shade of the room, feeling yourself start to shake. He gently touched you, never taking his hands away for a second, as if he was afraid that you would disappear. "If this is a dream, then I don't want to wake up," Cullen whispered, and your heart squeezed painfully. "Look at me, it's me, I'm alive," you touched his cheeks with your palms, trying to make him open his eyes. He looked at you from under half-closed eyelids and a painful half-smile distorted his face. "Jerk," you exhaled, realizing that it was too early to rejoice. The Volturi couldn't just leave what was happening right under their noses. Edward had compromised the secret of the vampires, and that could affect everyone. The punishment was inevitable, you knew it mentally, so when light footsteps were heard, you hugged Edward tighter. After a few seconds, he pulled away, and you looked at the men approaching you, feeling uncomfortable. "I won't need your services," Cullen said, hugging you to him. "Aro wants to talk to you." "The rules are not violated," Edward replied. "We'd better continue this conversation in a more appropriate place." "Good. Y/N, go and enjoy the holiday." You rolled your eyes in indignation, but didn't say anything. "The girl will come with us. "No, go to hell," Edward muttered. The iron bolt on the door suddenly fell, you saw Alice enter the castle and you immediately felt a little better. "Don't, guys, it's a holiday after all. You don't want a scandal, do you? What is it?" she asked. "We don't want to," one of the vampires replied. There was a clatter of heels. "That's enough," a high female voice cut through the tension that literally hung in the air. The girl took off her hood. "Jane," Edward immediately seemed to accept defeat, and Alice completely faded away. Jane stopped a little apart from the other two vampires and looked at them in turn, and then at you. "Aro sent to find out why it took so long," when she finished speaking, she turned around and walked down the corridor in the same direction from where she came. Edward pulled away from you and followed her, and you looked back at Alice. "Do what she says," said the friend quietly, taking off a light scarf from her neck and walking behind you. Two vampires from the Volturi retinue brought up the rear of your chain. One of them caught up with you and gave Edward a red robe instead of the black suit that he had thrown off when he decided to show himself to people. Edward took it and threw it over his shoulders. You have descended to an unimaginable depth for you and you barely suppressed panic at the thought that you can live here. But you can stay here if something goes wrong, and obviously not as an assistant to the elders! Dessert for lunch... Brrr!!! I didn't even want to think about it! *** Near the counter, you saw a girl who didn't look like vampires, which was surprising, because you expected to see only vampires in the vampire castle. "Is she human?" you were surprised, holding Edward's hand tightly. "Yes," he replied. After his first tense "yes", you didn't ask anything else and wisely fell silent, preventing your escorts from finding out more than you already said. Jane opened the doors and you entered a beautiful hall with a high ceiling. "Sister, you were sent for one, and you brought two... and a half! What a clever girl!" You immediately thought about the fact that, most likely, Jane's brother meant that the "half" is you, but you didn't dwell on it for a long time, it was not up to that. It was a throne room in which there were three thrones. You immediately remembered that Edward had told you about the Volturi and the painting that Edward had shown you, so you recognized Mark, Aro and Kai. Smiling from ear to ear, Aro hurried to meet you. "What a wonderful surprise! Incomparable Y/N still alive! Isn't that wonderful? I love happy endings. They are so rare." He took Edward by the hand, while you let him go and immediately felt even more uncomfortable in this beautiful hall, surrounded by vampires on all sides. "La tua cantante. Her blood has caused a storm of passion in you," the vampire swallowed his hungry saliva, "and I am thirsty. How do you manage to tolerate her closeness?" "Not without difficulty," Edward replied, barely moving his lips. You were scared, you wanted to shout "enough already, just let us go home!", but you restrained yourself. "Yes, I see it," he laughed, looking at you. You just physically felt his gaze, it was too scary to raise your head. "Aro read all the thoughts in my head with one touch," Edward explained, addressing you. "Now you know everything," he said to Aro. "Let's get started." "You yourself are adept at reading other people's souls, Edward. Although, you can't even read Y/N thoughts. Amazing!" He took a few steps back. "I would like to check if you are not subject to my power," he held out his hand. "Do me the honor." You hesitated for a few seconds, deciding what to do, but still decided and stepped forward, giving your hand to Aro. He took her in his icy hands and froze, listening to his feelings, and you noticed how Kai and Mark tensed on their thrones and literally forced yourself to breathe more evenly, because you knew: if these vampires smell your fear (although your blood was most likely to blame, as Aro already noticed) you're probably dead, just like Edward and Alice. Although they may not be touched, because, as Alice herself told you before, their gifts are rare in the vampire world, so the Volturi are trying their best to lure them into their service. Aro held your hand in his palms for about a couple of minutes, and then looked straight into your eyes. "It's interesting, hmm... I don't see anything," he turned his back to you and took a few steps to the throne, "let's check how much it is amenable to our influence at all. Please, Jane," Aro smiled invitingly. Alec and Jane looked in your direction at the same time. Apparently, you were really something special by vampire standards, since everyone showed such a pronounced interest in you. "No!" Edward growled, instantly standing in front of you. "Pain," a short order escaped from Jane's lips. You didn't understand what happened at first. Edward abruptly froze in place, his handsome face distorted with pain and he slowly fell to the floor. "Enough! Stop, please! "you lunged at him, but Jane's brother held you in place. "Wait! Stop torturing him, please!" "Jane..." Aro turned to the girl ingratiatingly. She stared at Edward sprawled on the floor for a few more moments, clearly enjoying her gift, and then blinked and responded, shifting her gaze to Aro: "Mister?" Edward took a ragged breath, and you calmed down a little, seeing that everything was fine with him. "Go on, my dear," Aro nodded. The girl looked at you. "It will hurt a little," she said, smiling. You were prepared, but you knew that you could hardly do anything against the power of this vampire. Not hearing another word from her, but only seeing the look of her blood-red eyes, you tensed up more and seemed to try to shrink into a ball, but you were surprised, feeling nothing. Nothing at all. The smile slowly faded from Jane's face. You shifted your gaze to Aro, who laughed hysterically. "Wonderful!" he whispered enthusiastically, clapping his hands. "She confuses us all. So, what should we do with you?" You looked at Edward. He was still lying on the floor. "You already know what you're going to do, Aro," Marcus' voice whispered. "She knows too much. She's a burden," Kai said, looking closely at his brother. "It's true," Aro sighed heavily. "Felix," he called lazily. "No!" Edward growled, quickly jumping up and covering you with himself. They started fighting and you understood that your life depended on the outcome of their struggle, but you didn't understand what the problem was. You might as well have been turned. Demetri grabbed Alice by the throat, and Edward ended up kneeling in front of the Volturi, held by Felix. The latter grabbed him by the throat and opened his mouth to tear off his head and eventually kill this violator of local order. "Please. No, no! Please, please! Kill me, not him," you begged the Volturi, who were watching you closely. Aro began to slowly approach you. "How extraordinary it is. Are you ready to give your life for someone like us? For a vampire, for a soulless monster?" "Don't go near her..." Edward croaked. "You don't know anything about his soul," you stubbornly blurted out, looking straight into the vampire's red eyes. "Fore… Ne il vostro L'altro," Aro said in Italian, and then sighed heavily, "how sad it is. If you only wanted to grant her immortality..." he drawled sadly, looking at Edward. You got scared when Aro started getting close to your neck. His intentions were clear: he wanted to drink your blood. You were scared as hell, but there was nothing you could do, so you just froze in place, paralyzed by fear. "Wait!" Alice suddenly exclaimed. "Y/N will be one of us. I can see that. I'll turn her myself." Aro held out his hand and Alice, slipping out of Demetri' grasp, came up to him, holding out her hand. She looked into his eyes and they both froze for a moment, looking through her vision. "It's fascinating to see something that will only happen sometime ..." he whispered, fascinated by what he saw. Aro came up to you. "Your gift will elevate you among the immortals, Y/N-N-N..." he drawled in a whisper, touching your face. Then Aro seemed to kiss you and took a step back. "Go," he said, making a sign with his hand to Demetri, who immediately released Edward. Cullen came up to you. You touched his neck with your hand, examining for injuries that Demetri inflicted on him while holding him. Edward took his hand, squeezing it tightly, but not enough to hurt or break it. Demetri went to see you off. You turned around and followed him. "Goodbye, my young friends," Aro said goodbye, as if there was no threat to your life and the lives of the Cullens. You were afraid to even turn around, but they didn't let you: Edward was confidently walking behind your guide and you had to speed up your pace to keep up with him. On the way, you met a certain Heidi, who, apparently, lured people, tourists, to the castle, who then went Volturi for food. When heart-rending screams were heard from the audience, neither Edward, holding you by the waist, nor Alice, tightly squeezing your shoulder, did not let you turn around.

***

After that crazy situation, you had nightmares for a while. Edward always tried to be there for you and protect you from them, but he didn't always succeed and more often you woke up alone after terrible, exhausting dreams. You dreamed of someone else's death, nature did not deprive you of fantasy, so everything was seen in bright colors and loud sounds. Sleeping pills didn't help, so you could only hope for Edward and, just in case, make an appointment with a psychologist. Later, your best friend Jacob Black, who was a werewolf quileute, gave you a dreamcatcher. It became much easier with him and you sincerely thanked Jake for such a timely and necessary gift. And Jacob was glad that his gift was useful to you.
