Chapter Twenty-Five: Home Sweet Home!

Settings
We are returning to the camp for the last time. How are our David, Stephanie, Misha and Nadya doing? Early in the morning it was basically the same as the day before yesterday. Cool water procedures in the morning and breakfast. And then each boy and girl waited for their parents to arrive. But first, at the same time, they, together with the counselors, were waiting for a gift for the camp from David and Stephanie, which the latter had already managed to make and cover with a white tablecloth to arrange a surprise. By the way, the tablecloth was provided by the counselor Nikolai Kirpichev himself. Even Yuria had nothing against it. The surprise itself was installed on an empty spot in the green grass meadow behind the tents. Many boys and girls began to guess what kind of gift this was for the camp? What did David and Stephanie do there? Maybe it was a swing? Maybe it was a carousel? Maybe it was a children's car on a spring? Or maybe it was a picture on the wall? The surprise turned out to be completely different from what many expected. But they got much better than they could have even imagined. The counselors take off the white blanket and it turned out that the gift to the camp from David and Stephanie was a large monument to Sonic the Hedgehog himself. And made of stone. Many children were shocked and could not imagine how they could make it like that? Then the counselors and David explained to the children how it all happened. It turned out that David and Stephanie worked on this gift to the camp at night. They asked the counselors themselves to go with them and accompany them so that they would not get lost together and go into the mine. There they found the largest stone. Round. They were lucky that Azatov was passing by again. When he saw that all the children signed his petition, he decided to also help them with a gift to the camp as a token of gratitude. He dragged a truck with a crane and with its help helped them pull this very extra stone out of the mine. Then, using nails and hammers, the five of them lightly knocked out the extra pieces of stone from the huge rock. They did it slowly and agreed with each other in advance what exactly they were doing. So they cut out of the rock the perfect stone monument to the hedgehog, which probably doesn’t even exist in Japan or America, as they thought. And at least it won’t just be in Russia, but in their camp in honor of SonicCon, which will also decorate the camp well and also show that most of the children and workers in the camp appreciate their favorite fictional idol. After they finished making it, Azatov, before saying goodbye and leaving, helped them carefully move this monument here. The boys and girls really liked the Sonic monument. Some of them even decided to take photos near it on their mobile phones as a keepsake. Even the counselors didn’t refuse to take photos with the monument. David and Stephanie surpassed themselves this time, without even knowing it. That's how the Green Hills camp got a new gift for the camp, which brought benefit to the camp. By this time, some parents had already arrived to take their children home and were also shocked by the monument they saw. When the White parents arrived, Misha and Nadya began to say goodbye to David and Stephanie. — I hope we'll meet again sometime. — says Stephanie. — If you're visiting us in Krasnogurbinsk, come visit one of us! — Of course. And you too, if you want, come visit us. — says Misha. — Definitely! — says Stephanie. — We also enjoyed talking to you! — says Nadya for Birch, moving it and looking at Knuckles and Tails, who were being held by David and Stephanie. — We'll miss you too! — says Stephanie for Knuckles. — And we'll be waiting for you and your hosts to visit. — says David for Tails. — And we you too. — Misha says for Sans. The children even hugged each other goodbye. And with their eyes closed. Their toys came to life and also hugged each other goodbye without words, as their owners themselves had already said goodbye on their behalf, parodying their voices. And after that, having said goodbye, Misha and Nadya got into the car and went home with their parents. David and Stephanie stayed and waited for Danny, who would come for them, as he had promised to pick them up. They waited. Dennis did not forget and came. Getting out of his car, he greeted David and Stephanie with outstretched arms. — Uncle Danny! — Dad! David and Stephanie were very happy to see him and ran to hug him. — How are you? Have you been good? — Yeah, Dad. — Stephanie answers. — You won't even believe what we had here! — Hm. This monument wasn't here before. — Omarov says, seeing the Sonic statue. — Of course. We made it overnight, as a gift to the camp. — David answers. — Ourselves? — Dennis was surprised and didn't believe it, and the children nodded. — We need to celebrate! When we get home, I'll immediately make pancakes and cake for tea. — Yes, such an event really needs to be celebrated. — a voice was heard from the side and turning around, the children saw the counselor Kolya. Yuria was with him. — Uncle Danny, these are the camp counselors. Kolya and Yuria. — Nice to meet you! — he shakes hands first with the man, then with the woman. — We too. — Yuria says. — David and Stephanie told us a lot about your families and your father Andrew. That's why we are more grateful to your father. — It was he who taught David and your daughter to make new toys and things out of wood, wasn't it? — Kolya asked. — Yes. It's the honest truth. My father was a good craftsman. He even thought that I would become like him. Because it was hereditary. Before that, his father was engaged in the craftsmanship of new toys, and before him, his father, and he learned from his uncle from Africa. When the Soviet Union still existed, our family were talented toy makers. Many people bought them, and after the collapse of the USSR, when my father became an adult and I was born, new foreign toys came to our countries, and no one needed new toys from my father. — We are very sorry that this happened. But then everything was okay with you? — asks Yuri. — Of course. True, at first my father despaired. When they stopped buying him new toys, because no one needed them, and I was not interested in his hobby, he became an alcoholic and lived isolated in a workshop on the second floor and became almost asocial. But fortunately... One lucky day... Helped him realize that he was doing the wrong thing and gave up too early. We then had a heart-to-heart talk and even Stephanie found a common language with him, although before even she was a little afraid to communicate with him and approach him, being wary. But then we started a new life from scratch and we even then started a relationship with our neighbors opposite our house. David was from the family and it was then that Stephanie became friends with him. — While he was telling all this, he hugged David and Stephanie. — That's right. Even our father told us that you can't give up too early. After all, there is always a way out. Even in a hopeless situation, when it seems that there is no way out. — Kolya answers. Yuria looked down and thought for a moment and said: — Listen, when you get home, tell your father that we, the Kirpichev counselors, want to invite him to our camp. — Why? — Danny didn’t understand. — I think they want to offer Uncle Andrew cooperation or some kind of work. Or even support. — Drayton suggested. — Yes. We think that we can develop Andrew Omarov’s talent. — Yuria answers. — Why should he just disappear forever? Let other children inherit his hobby and do something of their own, since everyone liked the new toys from David and Stephanie. — Kolya finishes. — Let him think about our offer for a while and if he agrees, come to us next year. Danny looked up, thought for a moment and said: — Okay. I'll consult with my father about your proposal. — That's great! — Kolya rejoiced and handed a plastic box of chocolates from his hands to Stephanie's. — And this is a gift from us on behalf of the entire camp. — And this too. — Yuri answered, handing David a translucent bag of pies. Some pies were with meat, others with rice, others with cabbage, and the fourth with mashed potatoes, and the fifth with raspberry jam. — I've been making these pies myself since yesterday. — Thank you. — David and Stephanie thanked at the same time. Meanwhile, Dennis approached the monument, examining it. An idea came to his head and he turned to the counselors. — Excuse me, can I take a picture of the statue? — asked the lieutenant and the Kirpichevs exchanged glances. — Sure... Why not? — Yuria answered, not understanding why this question was asked. — Why are you asking? — Yes, dad, what happened? — Stephanie also did not understand why her father could need a photo. — Honey, if we just tell David's parents that you both made such a gift to the camp, they may not believe us. — Omarov answered and winked at his daughter. — That's where he's right. — the boy agreed. Dennis took his old electric camera and snapped a photo of the Sonic monument taken by his daughter and nephew as a keepsake. And then he and Danny got into the car and drove home to Krasnogurbinsk. The counselors waved goodbye to them. While they were driving, David remembered Sonic, whom he had to leave at home. He missed him so much and he couldn't wait to see him again and even share with him what happened to him at camp? He hoped that while he was away, his mother might have already fixed it herself. Remembering Sonic and thinking about this, he looked out the side window and felt a little sad. Stephanie, who was sitting next to him, became worried. — Are you okay, David? — Yeah. It's just... I... — Will you miss the camp? — Stephanie asked. — No. That too, but... I just missed Sonic... He was all alone at home... Her friend sat closer, hugging him. — He's okay. He's sitting at home, waiting for you and believing that you'll come back to him. I'm sure of it. — She takes Knuckles out of her backpack and moves his head, speaking for him: — Besides, don't forget that Stephanie took Tails and me and brought you this for you and so that you wouldn't be sad. David smiles, picks up Knuckles and hugs Stephanie. Dennis, while driving, felt like he wanted to sleep again, since he hadn't gotten enough sleep this morning. He held on as best he could to stay awake. — "Don't sleep, Omarov! Don't sleep! Otherwise, you'll accidentally crash somewhere and die with the kids!" he kept saying to himself in his thoughts. *** They were lucky! They finally got home. Uncle finally made it home and stopped in front of the garage entrance. — That's it! We've arrived! David, already cheerful, ran home. He couldn't wait to see Sonic again. He even forgot his Tails and Knuckles in the car. Fortunately, Stephanie picked them up. As soon as Stephanie and the toys were alone in the car, the fox and the echidna came to life. — How happy he was. We honestly missed Sonic too. — says Tails. — Why did you come to life! My dad is in the car with us. — the girl was scared. — But he's asleep at the wheel. — Knuckles answers, pointing at the lieutenant, who managed to turn off the car engine and began to snore, sitting in the front seat. — Exactly! — Stephanie did not argue, and even less did she wake her father. He was probably tired from work and deserved a rest. At least at home, at least in the car. And David had just returned home at that time, and his parents were not home yet. He quickly ran up to the second floor to his room, all happy, took a chair and climbed up it to the shelf, where, as he remembered, was Sonic, whom his mother had put there. — Hello, Sonic. — but Sonic was not there. Either he had disappeared somewhere, or his mother or Uncle Andrew had taken him away to fix him. Looking around, he suddenly noticed all his toys on his bed. But besides them, there were also new toys that he did not expect. Those same collectible toys from the American cartoon series. Among them was Sonic himself, whose hand was definitely sewn on conscientiously and like new this time. Suddenly, Andrew, Ivan and Lili enter David's room, shouting at the same time: — SURPRI-I-ISE!!! David was a little scared, not expecting this. — How you scared me! — said the boy, got off the chair and ran to hug his parents and elderly uncle. — I'm glad to see you all again. — And we're glad too! — said his father. Sirius came running, meowed affectionately, began to purr and rub his head and tail between the boy's legs. — And what happened here while I was gone?— he added out of curiosity and looked at his bed again. — Among my old and familiar toys, are there also new toys? — Our neighbor Andrew brought them. He came up with the idea of a surprise for your return and embroidered them himself every night. — Ivan explained. — Of course, in reality, Andrew just lied a little about it to somehow explain where he got them from. — By the way, he also fixed your beloved Sonic's arm. — added Lili. — At first I wanted to fix it myself, but the other day Andrew came himself and asked, assuring me that he could do everything himself and even better than I could remake Shadow. — After saying this, she laughed to the side, covering her mouth. — Really? — David came up to the bed, took Sonic first, examined him, took his hand, which he had accidentally broken last time, and pulled it a couple of times to check. It was holding on very tightly. — Like new! — he said, and then turned his attention to the collectible toys that Andrew had passed off as his own. He took Sally, whose both hands were empty. — Uncle?... This is it!... — David was almost speechless and could not believe his eyes, what a toy he was seeing right now in front of his eyes. — What? Don't you like it? — the pensioner was a little worried. — I know, I know, I'm sorry, you're probably not ready for such a... he didn't have time to finish speaking, as David suddenly ran up to him and hugged him. At the same time, he was still holding Sally in his hand. For a short moment, Acorn came to life, while no one except Andrew was looking at her. — Thank you very much, Uncle Andrew. I always dreamed of getting Sally Acorn among my toys, which I learned about from webcomics and fan videos on the Internet. — Oh, come on! Do not thank! — Grandpa smiled and was a little modest, but then he also responded to his neighbor's nephew with a hug. Mom and Dad almost cried with joy, looking at how happy they were both. Andrew even managed to wink at Sally unnoticed, and she winked back. When the boy let go of his neighbor, he turned his attention to the toys again. — What about the other toys? I remember almost nothing about some of them, and I'm seeing some for the first time. Uncle laughed. — It's obvious that you probably haven't heard of or at least haven't watched that ancient American cartoon about Sonic. — Exactly! — Ivan raised his index finger. — I've heard about that series somewhere. And they told me then that Sonic, who was still mine at the time, was based on the shape of his head and appearance on Sonic from that very cartoon. — I also watched it on VKontakte once. One pirate group then posted all the episodes there in some kind of monophonic translation at that time. True, now they and this group have been removed from there due to copyright infringement. It's a pity for them. But it was interesting to watch it. It was also a pity that there were no other characters from the Sonic games. Amy Rose, for example. — Lili said the last part jokingly. — And I heard somewhere that this cartoon series has an unofficial fan dubbing from some fans. — says David's father, to which his son replies: — So maybe we can look for it in this dubbing on the Internet and watch it together? — Let's do it! Danny and I just happened to have an old tape of several episodes of this series. But the voice-over translation is a bit poor. And at least the dubbing is pleasant to the ear. — says the pensioner, jokingly touching his right ear with his palm. — Agreed. But let's do it later. — says Lili, and coincidentally, the crying of her daughter is heard. — I need to finish some of my chores and feed the baby again. Mom and Dad left the room and only Andrew and David remained in the room. David took Sonic and Sally in both hands, deciding to play prince and princess with them. — Mademoiselle, would you be so kind as to invite you to dance? — the boy says for the hedgehog, moving him as if he were speaking with a bow. Then he moves the chipmunk and says for her: — I agree, your highness. I can even kiss you. — David, can I join your game too? — the uncle offers. — Of course, Uncle Andrew. Join us! — the boy invites and the neighbor sits down next to him. He takes Amy in his hands and moving her for her says: — What about me? I also want to dance with Sonic and kiss him. Sally can, but I can't. — Amy, Sally, don't fight! — David answers for Sonic, raising his hands so that he hugs Sally and Amy. — I like you both and I love each of you equally. I don't want you to fight over me or be jealous of each other. Then Stephanie suddenly joined the game, holding Tails and Knuckles. She moved each of them in turn and spoke for them: — Sonic is right, girls. You don't need to share him or fight for him. You can always come to an agreement with each other or, at worst, remain his best friends. Don't you agree with that? Then David only held Sonic, and Andrew held Amy and Sally, bringing their heads close to Sonic's and pretending to kiss with his smacking sounds: — Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Smack. Then they pretended that Sally and Amy were hugging Sonic, and he hugged them back. Stephanie puts Tails and Knuckles among the toys and takes Mephiles, appearing as a mysterious villain and moving him, speaking for him: — Ha-ha-ha! Hey, beauties, I want love too. Let me ask one of you to dance too. — No. — David answers for Amy and moves her hand as if she is slapping him. — You are disgusting to us, a nasty villain! — Here is our darling! — Andrew says for Sally, hugging Sonic. — We are only his forever. — Oh, so? Then don't get you! — Stephanie says and raising Mephiles' hands imitates the sound of an explosion: — Bang! — at her signal, Andrew quickly removed Amy from Sally and put two wooden frogs in their place, and Stephanie imitated Mephiles' evil laugh. — No one and nothing will stop Amy, Sally and I from loving each other. — the boy says for Sonic and leans Sonic's head against the frogs' faces, thus depicting that Sonic is trying to kiss them to disenchant them, but the frogs remain. — It won't work out that easy for you. — the girl laughed for the crystal hedgehog. — You can only love one of them. And I just want love too. So choose, Sonic. Either Amy or Sally. Then they acted out that Sonic was panicking and couldn't decide who he should love. David himself, without thinking twice, chose Amy for Sonic, since it was with her that he played parts with Sonic, while he only received Sally now and this is the first time he plays. So he said for Sonic: — Forgive me, Sally, but... I've met Amy more often and I like her better. — I understand, Sonic. But for me, you will still remain my favorite hedgehog. — the elderly master answers for the frog. Then the boy leans Sonic's head against another frog, making it look like he kissed it. Andrew removes that same frog and returns Amy to its place, after which both hedgehogs hug and kiss. The first frog hopped up to Mephiles. — If I become your love, as you want, do you promise not to do evil anymore and not to hurt all our friends?— Stephanie moves that same frog, and then moves Mephiles. — I give you my word! As you can see, I even show you my hands so that you believe me that I'm not lying at all. Why was I so angry? Because I didn't have love. — Then Stephanie leans the frog against Mephiles's head, pretending that they kissed and removing that frog, she returned Sally. — Now I will be yours forever, Sir Mephiles. — She answers, moving the chipmunk and also makes it look like Sally and Mephiles are kissing. By this time Ivan and Lili had returned to the room with Anya in their arms. They heard their son playing happily with his friend and neighbor and decided to join them.
