Key to Scourge's Heart
December 30, 2023 at 4:20 AM
A heavy pile of a whole mountain of bags with stolen gifts, food, Christmas trees and decorations almost rose to the very top of the mountain. The naga and the fox dragged them to the cliff and wanted to throw them there, so that every last one of them would be destroyed during the fall. According to the idea, they were supposed to collapse, falling into the abyss on the other side of the mountain. However, for now they left the sleigh with the stolen goods on the edge. Scourge and Fiona stood next to each other and looked at each other questioningly. They didn't know what to do? What should they do next? Fiona was still tormented by Father Christmas's words, and Scourge was worried by Cream's words.
β Do you also think that we probably did this in vain? β the snake-hedgehog asks sadly and the fox nods, turning away in shame, just so as not to see his fatherβs angry face. However, Scourge only answered: β It seems to me too... Itβs tormenting... Well, this is... Conscience!
β Me too. β the fox answers, looking down towards where their house is. β Maybe we can come back?
β It is forbidden! We planned all this to get back at the city. Just imagine! They all wake up down there, see that they have no food, Christmas trees, decorations or gifts at all, and then they cry like Grandmothers.
β DAD!!! β Fiona shouted, for she hated it when women were called that.
β Okay-okay! Like women!
β And why only women? They're not that much of a crybaby. And then, men cry too. β says the fox. From her words, Scourge remembered how he himself cried as a child. She was right there, he thought. They were both suddenly distracted from their thoughts by a voice. These were songs dedicated to the New Year.
β What is this?
β Singing. β Fiona suggested.
β I can hear the singing myself. But why is it? Where is it from? From Mobiustown? β asks the naga and lowers himself lower. Fiona follows him down. They look down from the mountain and hear singing coming from the city. -What kind of curse? What nonsense? We took everything from them! We stole the New Year from them! They must cry and sob! Why are they singing?
β I do not know myself. β Fiona answers and folds her arms over her chest. Then something dawned on her. β Although... Maybe this is what Father Frost meant?
β What? β Scourge didnβt understand.
β Father Frost tried to warn us that he, the gifts and everything we stole were not the most important thing in the New Year. Maybe the New Year has a different essence of the holiday that we couldnβt steal?
β But what is it? β asks the naga, folding his hands on his chest.
β Maybe it's... the Spirit.
β What kind of spirit is this? β Scourge didnβt understand and looked further at the city. β The spirit of Knuckles that I ate?
β No. New Year Spirit! β the fox explained. β Maybe this is the essence of the New Year?
Naga grabbed his daughter in his fist and shouted:
β WHAT THE CRAP???
β Itβs not nonsense at all, Dad. β Fiona explains calmly. β I heard that the spirit of the New Year is when all people get together, hold hands, sing New Year's songs and congratulate each other. This is not just a spirit, but a kind of phenomenon that exists at the moment the holiday appears. It is precisely this that cannot be touched or stolen. That's why you can feel it yourself. If people feel this phenomenon, then the holiday itself comes and people celebrate it. And even without gifts or anything else. There will be no holiday if there is no spirit of the New Year. However, since they are singing down there, it means they have felt the spirit of the New Year and there is no way to disturb them. The spirit of the New Year lives in each of us and makes itself felt if you yourself are ready to accept this holiday and celebrate it. And it doesnβt matter how you meet him.
With that said, Scourge releases Fiona and looks back at the city. His daughter's words made him think even more. At the same time, he again remembered the words of Cream, which she had told him before going to bed, this night. Cream's words only made Fiona's words stronger. Suddenly Scourge felt that something was beating strongly in his chest, so much so that it was about to jump out through his throat and onto the outside, as it seemed to him. The very heart of the evil naga grew twice as big that day. Taking a breath and holding his chest with one hand, the snake-hedgehog felt as if he himself had unknowingly grown older. The eyes immediately became famous. The predator lightly touched his right eye with the index claw of his right hand and took one tear. Realizing that he himself had begun to cry without noticing it, Scourge could not stand it, began to burst into tears and screamed like a child. Falling to the ground with his back, he continued to cry and even covered his eyes with his hands.
β FIONA, HELP ME!!! I AM TOUCHED!!!
β But how? β the fox didnβt understand.
β GIVE ME A HUG!!!
Fiona didnβt argue and stood up from the side and hugged her daddyβs neck. He removed his right hand from his face and placed it lightly on the fox's shoulders and back. At the same time, he continued to cry. His soul was so painful and so ashamed that he really wanted to cry.
β OH, FIONA!!! WHAT HAVE I DONE??? β he shouted through his tears. Fiona, too, unable to bear it, began to cry with him and, holding her hands, felt sorry for him. When the naga had cried properly and the tears had ended, the red-eyed one raised his head, took a breath and turned his gaze to the fox.
β Fiona! β he addressed her a little calmly. She looked questioningly at the naga, and with a sad face he said to her: β I... Love... You!
When she heard this, the daughter immediately stopped crying herself, rushed to the predatorβs face and began kissing him on the cheeks and forehead. While she was doing this, Scourge, noticing that the sleigh and bags themselves at the top were slowly descending to the edge of the cliff, got scared.
β Oh no! Sled! Present! β he said, rolled over and stood up, after which he crawled back upstairs. Fiona ran after him. β No need! Don't you dare fall! Not now, never! And then thereβs trouble!
The snake-hedgehog was the first to climb up and sees how the sleigh was almost at the edge of the cliff. A little more and the sleigh with gifts is about to fly into the abyss. Scourge strikes an epic pose, points his left finger at the sled itself and shouts:
β STO-O-O-O-OP!!!
With this cry, he quickly crawls towards the sleigh and falls on his stomach, stretching his arms forward. He grabs the back edges of the sled and tries to pull it towards himself. Yes, but he himself reaches for the sleigh.
β PULL MY TAIL, FIONA!!!
That's what the fox did. She grabbed the naga by the tail and began to pull it towards her. But it didn't work out. The sleigh with gifts and the giant himself were heavy. Any attempts to pull them towards her in the slippery snow turned out to be the fact that she herself slid right under the nagaβs tail, and was unable to pull him out with her.
β ITβS NOT WORKING OUT, DAD!!! TOO HARD!!!
Realizing despair and the fact that the gifts could not be saved, Scourge began to pull towards himself and stopped in place, while the sled continued to descend to the edge of the cliff and even jumped slightly. Scourge's arms stretched forward and then his fingers began to slowly slide and let go of the sled that he had grabbed.
β Okay! Fine! β he whispered to himself in despair, watching the sleigh with gifts slowly go to Hell: β What can do? There... Only toys!
β Hey, mr Scourge! β he suddenly heard someoneβs familiar voice and looked up. He saw how the rabbit Cream herself appeared at the very top of the bag, looking down at the snake. The naga and the fox, when they saw her, widened their eyes:
β Cream?... How did you end up there? Scourge asks worriedly.
β I'm visiting you! You canβt be alone in the New Year! β the rabbit answers, smiling.
From what he heard, Scourge at first opened his mouth slightly, and then slowly smiled and almost cried again. This time from joy. With joy, he even forgot that the sleigh was about to fall. The real Father Frost comes out of the bag along with the rabbit. The two of them ask from the bag and, having landed, try to help them save the gifts. Father Frost calls his magic staff into his hands, which itself flew into his hand. The old man waved his staff and said magic:
β Spirit of the New Year, come to our aid! Give these individuals the strength to save their gifts from destruction! β he said and waving his staff, he cast magic with stars on the naga, the fox and the rabbit. The three of them felt that they had become stronger. Cream felt the physical strength of fifty Creams like herself. And three more. Fiona felt the power of forty-eight Fionas like herself, and Scourge felt the power of five Scourges. And two and a half more. Together they pulled the sleigh with gifts towards themselves and pulled them out of the abyss without difficulty. Scourge even lifted the sleigh containing the gifts above his head and lifted it up.
β Happened! β Cream was happy, and Fiona danced on the spot. Afterwards she asked them:
β To be honest, what were you doing inside the bag?
β We weren't there. I just ran to your house, saw how you caught the real Father Frost and freed him, and he transferred us both there, like a portal. He also takes gifts from his magic bag. β Cream explained.
β Well done! β says Father Frost himself. β You understood the real essence of the New Year and decided to return to the city what was stolen from it. At least you did something good for Mobiustown. All you have to do is return it all back to the city. And it's time for me to fly on.
β Grandfather, will you really make it in time? You flew to us at night, but stayed here until the morning. Will you really have time to deliver the remaining gifts to the rest of the world? β asked Cream.
β Of course, Cream. I may not be Santa Claus, but at the end of the day, I am still Father Frost! β Frost answers smiling, knocks his staff on the ground and, enveloping himself in stars, flies upward. Following him in the air were his own solar sleigh with a horse and they flew far away: β HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! AND YES, SCORGE AND FIONA, I WILL CROSS YOU BOTH OFF FROM THE LIST OF NOT OBEDIENT!!!
β Not obedient? β the fox bulged her eyes and asked herself. β Iβm not disobedient! On the contrary, I always obey my dad. Why was I always on this list?
β Thatβs what his black list is called. β Cream explained. β He wrote down in it the names and surnames of those who behaved badly all year and did not deserve gifts for it.
β A! Now I understand. Then it would be better to call it a list of bad people! Or a list of scoundrels! β the fox answers.
Scourge places the sleigh next to the descent into the city and leans towards the rabbit, holding the fake beard in his hands as he descends in shame.
β Cream, forgive me! I... I mean, Fiona and I stole all these gifts from Mobiustown to steal New Year's from all of you and we thought that there we would get revenge on the whole city, after I ate Mayor Knuckles, getting revenge on him, and then I thought, that this would make Fiona and I feel better. But... We were wrong. It did not help!
β And I immediately guessed that it was you at our house when you took our tree. β says Cream.
β Really? But how? I...
Cream laughed and said:
β Never mind! Let's go down to the city right now and return all the gifts back! Mobiustown will forgive you if you take everything back and honestly admit the same things. I am sure the city will forgive you and accept you. If anything happens, I will support you and cover you.
Having decided on that, the three of them sat in the front seat of the sled and drove down the mountain.
