Chapter 13, Alan&Victor: freedom and new home
May 4, 2024 at 7:19 AM
Alan was mad. Really mad. A growl vibrates his chest as the cell gets brighter, hoping to blind the soldiers in front of him. But it seems that the last attack gave them a lot of information about him, and they went prepared. They continue to shoot at him, but he realizes quickly: that wasn't with bullets but with tranquilizers. He gets an amused smile. In this form he is immune to poisons and other molecules, so there is no effect on him.
But Victor isn't.
This reality froze him instantly, seeing the prisoner he curls in a ball, trying to protect himself from the projectiles. Alan got a moment of panic. The other soldiers continue shooting in long range to avoid any direct attack from the God. He wraps one of his wing as a shield, protecting both of them to give him a moment to think.
He has two choices... Either he directly attacks the soldiers to make them realize how pathetic this plan is BUT Victor will surely get shot by the tranquilizers and overdose because of the high quantity in every dose..
Or he releases his aura to make them kneel in front of him BUT he needs a stronger aura than the last times, and he doesn't know the effects of this on a normal human body...
He got a sudden idea when he remembered the first time he showed this form, and then he reveals himself from behind his wing, glowing one more time. Once the glow disappeared, silence took place, the guns were all disabled. A smirk of satisfaction appears on Alan's face but disappears when the front row crouch to reveal another row of soldiers with weapons that are still working. They begin to shoot and Alan uses his wing again as a shield and growls. Back to the beginning...
A glance behind and a third option, obviously the safest for Victor, got proposed in the God's mind. Without waiting longer, he jumps on the prisoner, grabs him firmly and jumps outside, leaving a last glow to confuse the soldiers.
Victor’s heart was beating fast. The gunshots' noises faded quickly, leaving only the feeling of the wind, the heat of a body close to his and arms around his chest. He slowly opens his eyes to see the floor… many meters away from his feet. His heart beats even faster, echoing his breath as he starts to struggle like a frenetic. The pressure of the arms frees his chest, the heat was replaced by cold and the wind blows harder as the floor quickly gets closer. Seeing this, Victor’s lungs only could make him scream in horror and his eyes close to preserve his mind of what’s about to happen. He was saved by Alan from the hands of his ex-coworkers to be doom to fall…
Suddenly, all he feels was just heat, softness and a pair of arms around his body. This almost seems unreal… Is he in Heaven? But a sudden shock wakes him up with noises of a heavy body hitting something hard. Nothing moves for a few seconds before Victor opens his eyes again.
He was in Alan’s arms..
He stiffens, unsure of what just happened. Did he… save him again? But the God started to slowly move and moan in pain, making Victor quickly go away in surprise. The soldier takes a look at the man in front of him, panicked and… worried?
Alan sits down with difficulties, his white shredded clothes covered in dust and blood, his golden wings slightly bloody with missing feathers and his dusty fluffy tail completely immobile. His shape makes the other man teary of guilt.
— Victor… are you okay…?
The soldier got a gasp of surprise. He’s the one that needs urgent help, and he still cares for the soldier more than himself?
— I-I’m fine… but you…
Alan glances at his wings and the rest of his body then smiles.
— That? You’re worried about that??
Victor was about to protest, when Alan shakes his body like a wet cat, glowing. One last flap of his wings, and it was like nothing happened, all blood disappeared and the dust flying away in the light wind. He’s now sitting with a big smile, his wings gently packed in his back and his tail waving in rythme with his quiet purr, making the soldier a bit uncomfortable.
Victor looks around him, realizing where they were: On top of one of the ruined buildings in the city near the base he was prisoner of.
— Wait!? How did we get here?!
The only answer he got was Alan spreading his wings with a confused face, panicking the other man even more.
— It’s not funny! How did you do that?!
The God rolls his eyes, giggling, then stands up, imitated by Victor and goes behind him.
— You trust me?
— Yes… Wh-
The soldier got cut in his sentence by two arms grabbing his chest and his feet leaving the floor, making him scream. The high building next to them scrolls in front of Victor’s eyes as they get higher, before reaching the top to land on it.
The human’s breath was quick, and he was shacking of shock, even when he was safe with something hard under his body. Alan releases some pressure on his chest, grabs him in a hug and starts purring to calm Victor down. The soldier got surprised by this gentle gesture and feels his heart slowing down as the purr gets louder in his ears, but it suddenly stops. He got confused, until he looks in front of him.
They are now standing on the roof of the other building. The sun rises from the horizon, lightening the world with bright warm colors, turning the sky into orange and yellow shades. For some time, none of them wanted to move, hypnotised and enjoying this moment of peace and beauty, until Victor realizes than Alan's arms were still on his chest and breaks the moment by getting away, not without some regret of leaving this safe place.
— I don't think it's a good thing... — sobs Victor.
— What do you mean...? — asks Alan softly.
— I'm a soldier... A Red Nexus soldier... The villain of this story! You shouldn't have had to save me...
— Why that...?
— I'm your enemy! I've killed your people! Fought against you! Was the most sinful and unholy person! And now you tell me that God himself saves me?! You should hate me! I should be burning in hell for what I've done, not be saved! — screams Victor, tears rolling down his cheeks. He can't accept the fact he can be forgiven after everything in any way.. especially by Alan.
— But it's impossible for me to hate you! — shouts Alan, his heart hurts seeing the other man crying.
— Yes it is possible! You've already killed hundreds of soldiers like me! So why don't you hate me?!
— Because I love you !! — screams Alan while grabbing Victor’s shoulders and then whispers — You are different..
A long silence follows the interaction, face to face, not knowing what to do now. Victor looks at Alan's eyes, fascinated by them. They were slightly orange, like reflecting the state of the sky at the moment. Now that he's thinking about it, they seem darker than when they were in the cell. He looks at them for so long, that he didn't realize yet they were getting closer as the pressure on his shoulder slowly disappears. So close that their faces almost touch, feeling each other's breath. Time seems to stop, making this moment like hours, almost unbearable. But the distant noise of drones flying and vehicles getting closer breaks the bubble instantly, making Alan growl in frustration.
— Fuck it! Victor, we get out of here now! — he says while grabbing the prisoner.
— Wh-Where are we going...?
— To the Walker camp! You will be safe there! I promise — he spreads his wings, ready to fly.
— Wait! Can you... carry me instead...? This — Victor points the arms on his chest — makes me nervous...
Alan doesn't argue, carries him and flies away in silence, leaving a glowing dot going in another direction to lure the soldiers away.
The Walker camp is in full activity, everyone gathered around the ruins, trying to find their leader in what's left of his house. Suddenly, a scream from one of the scouts stops everyone as he points at something in the sky. Some seconds later, cries of joy were heard while Alan lands in safety and puts back Victor on the floor. The ex-soldier was a bit overwhelmed by all this cheering, but they were all for Alan and only a few Walkers noticed his presence. But Alan calmed down the crowd to make it easy for everyone.
— My friends! — his voice resonates in every chest and head, giving goosebumps to every listener — Please calm down! I'm very happy to see you all too. I'm sorry for scaring you like I did, but I had something urgent to deal w-AARGGHH!!!!!!
This shout of pain was caused by a broom hitting Alan like a piñata with the Devil on the other side.
— Lily?! Ouch! Stop it!
— You woke up everyone! You destroyed your house! To save a Red Nexus soldier?!
— Yay! - He helped - Ow! - Helped us! And - Ouch! - was about t- Oula! - to get executed! - Stop!
— And?! We have nothing to do with his fate!
— Yes I do! - Argh! - When we looked - Yay! - for Yordan - Iik! - I forgot - Ouch! - to disable the cameras!"
Alan protects himself further, but nothing comes. When he looks at the woman, she was immobile with a confused face.
— What did you just say...?
— Erm... When we were on a rescue mission for Yordan, I forgot to disable the security cameras... So they knew that Victor helped us and that you exist now...
Lily looks at her broom, then at Alan and back at her broom. Before giving it aggressively to the confused God.
— What the?!
— I was so focused on saving Yordan that I forgot to verify that the security system was off. I knew you were uncapable of critical thinking and had to check everything myself, but I didn't.. So it's my fault too — she spreads her arms, like accepting a sentence — now do it, I know you dream of it — says she, expecting to be hit as the revenge.
Alan looks back and forth between her and the broom, then panicks.
— That's not my job to do that!! — He claims, giving it quickly to the person next to him, Victor.
The ex-soldier looks around, even more panicked and confused.
— I don't know what to do with it!
And he gives it again to the person next to him, who reveals to be Yordan. He arrived a few minutes ago with the garden hose to calm down the two beasts, he is now with the two most dangerous weapons of this camp, giving shivers to the two supernaturals.
He looks at the broom, then the hose, the two non-humans and smile at the soldier.
— I do, don't worry.
He drops the hose and walks to the ruins. He stops in the middle and starts sweeping the floor. For a few seconds, it was the only thing moving in the camp. The God and the Devil glanced at each other and, silently agreeing, walked towards the ruins to build back the house. Victor gets a bit confused, but also amused by the situation. He should better get the habit, since this seems to be his new life now.
