There's something in the mist
November 19, 2023 at 6:27 AM
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Wakowski heard the man's screams and they decided to go check where he was screaming from. They headed towards the forest and noticed only a small trace of blood on the grass.
โ Blood? โ Sonic asked.
Tails leaned down, touched the red puddle and nodded.
โ Look, his shopping basket! Maddie said, noticing a basket on the floor. The shopping basket itself was bitten on the side. - Teeth marks! Spicy! Someone bit the basket... And it seems that someone attacked that person.
โ And he left only his blood on the ground. โ Sonic suggested further.
Suddenly they heard another sound from the direction of the forest. This time they heard not a human cry, but a roar, somewhat reminiscent of a mixture of the crying of a Camel, the meowing of a cat, the squealing of a boar and the roar of a lion. The one who made this sound, judging by everyone, is the very monster that Wade is talking about. It must have attacked that person. Five understood this immediately. The hedgehog, in turn, immediately realized that he couldnโt stand still for too long and wait for them to be devoured too.
โ RUN!!! โ he shouted and ran to the supermarket. Wakowski, Tails and Knuckles ran after him. Something huge, causing a small and slight shaking with every step, was following them from the side of the forest. Fortunately, our heroes managed to run to the supermarket and the doors opened for them. โ CLOSE THE DOORS!!! MY GOD, SHUT THESE DOORS!!!
But there was no need to wait for someone to close the doors. They then closed themselves. Out of the fog, suddenly, from the direction of the forest, some kind of god-like creature appeared, somewhat reminiscent in silhouette of a giant mantis with crayfish claws. It walked on its paws and with every step it caused the sound of an earthquake, but fortunately there was no earthquake itself. The creature approached and stopped, as if it was looking around. Having finished looking around, the giant turned to the left and left. Everyone who was in the supermarket saw him. Even our heroes saw him and were shocked that they became stunned and could not move until they were brought to their senses.
โ I TOLD YOU THAT THERE ARE MONSTERS IN THE MIST!!! NOW DO YOU BELIEVE ME??? - Wade stubbornly asked everyone.
โ Of course not. We assumed that you rather created a huge animatronic and made him just walk past our store to scare us and it turned out almost realistic. โ Mr. T said sarcastically at first, and then spoke seriously. โ Of course we believe you. Although, given those three animals, we are now ready to believe in anything. At least into fairies, at least into spirits. He added, pointing at Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
โ Then you will quarrel! The main thing is that now we know that there really are monsters there. At least we're safe in the supermarket. โ Tails suggested.
โ Tell me, what did you see there, besides that monster? โ one of the cashiers asked the main characters. โ We just heard that manโs screams from the supermarket.
โ We heard them too and ran towards the screams to check what was there. โ Knuckles explained.
โ Itโs true that we didnโt see the body. We only saw blood, and also the manโs shopping basket. She was lying on the floor and had been bitten. It looks like this monster ate his purchases too. โ Tom explained.
โ Yes, and then we heard this giant begin to approach. Itโs good that Sonic realized in time that we had to run before he grabbed us too. โ Maddie added.
โ Whoever and whatever it is, we better not go out! โ Tails explained. โ We're safe in the supermarket. And so far there is no more precise reason that the creatures come out of the forest. They could probably be somewhere in the city, and we donโt even know about them. The fog appeared about an hour ago and so far none of us had seen any monsters.
โ What if these creatures can become invisible, and before we have time to turn around, they immediately plunge their stings into our backs. โ Wade suggested.
โ Well, yes, yes. You can also say that these were little green men. โ Mr. T said incredulously.
โ Yes, everything is possible. โ Wade answers. โ Have you heard about what they are doing in zone fifty-one?
โ I heard that, but it seems to me that we are dealing with something cooler than little green men. โ the echidna answers.
Tom took the phone and tried to call somewhere, but the phone did not pick up a single unit of signal. Suddenly the lights went out again.
โ Again?
โ Which one?
โ Mom, I'm scared!
โ The light went out again.
โ They're already inside! The creatures have sneaked in! โ Wade suggested, although here he was exaggerating.
โ Calm down, the wiring is probably acting up again. I'll go and reboot the system! โ says the electrician and leaves. โ This wiring needs to be changed a long time ago!
โ Will there be light?
โ Certainly. This is a problem that has been going on for a month now. We told the director that we needed to change the wiring, otherwise everything would burn out.
โ This reminds me of the events of the book โThe Mistโ by Stephen King. The great film โThe Mistโ was also made into a poor TV series. I think the same thing is happening here as in the book. โ one woman suggested.
โ And what should we do in this case? โ Knuckles asked her, and she began to explain:
โ Mostly the characters died there because they were stupid. Either scorpions of similar flies with pterodactyls were lured to themselves by light, then they ended up in a pharmacy where spiders lived that spit acid instead of cobwebs, or tentacles attacked from behind the gate in a warehouse. And almost everyone died because they were stupid and didnโt do everything correctly.
โ If youโre so smart, then maybe you can tell us what we need to do so that we can at least all survive.
โ It's simple. First, you need to completely isolate the supermarket and under no circumstances go outside to avoid being eaten. Usually, monsters from the fog immediately attack a person as soon as he comes out of hiding. However, if a person is locked inside a building or in a car, then the monsters will not touch him, since they usually find people by smell. At night, remain without light in the dark and try not to make noise. By the way, since there is paint among the goods, I recommend painting over the windows just in case, so that the monsters wonโt even notice us by our eyes!
โ Wait, stop, who will pay for the paint? โ asked one of the cashiers.
โ Itโs almost the end of the world here and our lives are on the brink of death right now, and youโre only worried about money now instead of peopleโs lives? โ she asked him indignantly in response. The cashier thought about it and said:
โ Fine then! But keep this in mind. If we suddenly survive and then go home, we will send each of you invoices for previously used unpurchased goods.
โ Of couse!
While everyone was sorting out goods to prepare to survive as if in a war, Sonic stood near the window, sternly looking at the fog and thinking:
โ This fog and these monsters from it are most likely the work of Dr. Robotnik. I'm sure of it.
Everyone took bags of cereal and cones, placing them near the windows, like bags of cement for barricades. The rest took blue paint and decided to paint the windows with it. A couple of people chose to paint the โS.O.S.โ signal on the window with red paint. In such fog, of course, it is unlikely that anyone will see this inscription, but itโs worth a try.
โ I'm scared, mom, I want to go home! โ the daughter hugs her mother, and she tries to calm her down.
โ Don't be afraid! We're safe in the supermarket. I hope.
Tom was still trying to call somewhere, but there was still no signal. Only now did he notice that there was still no light.
โ Hm. There is still no light. โ he said. โ The electrician should have finished by now.
โ Yes, all you have to do is turn the switch down and turn it up. โ one of the managers answers. โ Strange! Maybe something happened to him in the warehouse.
โ I'll see what's wrong with him. โ Tails answers and goes to the warehouse with Sonic.
The hedgehog and the fox found a large iron door and entered. Inside the warehouse, in addition to more supplies of food and goods, there were iron gates and a gasoline-powered generator that was turned off. The switch was next to him. There were also gates in the warehouse that were open. The fog became even thicker, so that it was impossible to see what was outside the gate.
โ Hey guy, you're here! โ the hedgehog called the electrician, but he did not respond. โ Damn, the gate is open here!
They went out to the gate and noticed traces of blood on the floor between the gates, left apparently as if the person had been grabbed and dragged along the floor. They looked around and there seemed to be no one there. Tails walked over to the blood trail and examined it.
โ Oh no! Looks like the guy is no longer a resident. Something pulled him through the gate, just like the one in the parking lot. If there is blood here, it means the creature is apparently coming out of the forest. I remembered that there was also a forest on the other side. Sonic, do you see anything?
โ No. The mist here is too thick that you can't even see your feet. โ the hedgehog explained and went to the button connected to the gate. โ Itโs better to close these gates so that none of them can get in here again! โ he said and pressed the button. However, the gate did not respond. He pressed it again, to no avail. โ Does not work! Ou! it, there is no electricity supply and therefore it does not close.
โ Apparently we now even have G.U.N. won't help. โ Knuckles said.
โ It turns out like this. โ Tails agreed and also despaired. Suddenly something occurred to him. โ Stop! I hope the fog doesnโt reach very high into the sky? Maybe I can somehow fly higher above the fog and get a signal on my phone myself?
โ Are you crazy? โ the hedgehog was afraid for the fox. โ Forgot what happened to that guy in the parking lot and that electrician near the gate in the warehouse? If we go outside, these creatures will immediately attack us and eat us.
โ Those two were not ready and did not know about those monsters from the mist that could appear. And the one in the parking lot didnโt believe it at first. If they believed and knew in advance that they needed to act carefully, then perhaps they would have survived. You and I now know that the monsters are in the fog. If I am very attentive and careful, I will also stay alive. โ Tails explained.
โ Okay then! Then I'm going with you! โ said Sonic.
โ What's the point? You can't fly like me. โ the fox explained. โ Look for a better way to fight back if the monsters suddenly make their way to us.
โ I can give you this so that you have something to fight back with. โ Wade gave the fox a gun. โ Do you know how to use it?
โ Iโll manage somehow. โ Tails replies, takes Wade's gun and Tom's phone, and then heads towards the exit of the supermarket.
โ Be careful, Tails! โ asked Tom.
โ Another madman decided to come out! Suicidal you! โ Mr. T snapped.
โ Mr. T, shut up already! โ Mad Karl reproached him. โ They are at least trying to do something to save us all.
The fox went outside and looked around carefully. I looked left, right, in front, above and under my feet.
โ It seems clean! โ he thought out loud and, sharply waving his tails, flew high, high into the sky.
Rising higher and higher, he did not forget to look around carefully, in case there were flying creatures that would fly at him. After about ten minutes he was already high enough above the clouds and now he finally left the fog. Now he was very high, where there was a blue sky and that hot and beautiful yellow sun was shining again. The fox felt good about this. Then, remembering why he came up here, he took out Tom's phone and checked it.
โ Come on, signal, get caught!... Yes! Happened. โ he was delighted and began to dial โ911โ. Suddenly, in the fog that was currently under him, he heard a roar, reminiscent of a dinosaur's roar. And half-deaf. Then, in the fog under the foxโs feet, a shadowy silhouette of a flying creature appeared, somewhat reminiscent of either a bat, or a demon, or a dragon. He flew past and disappeared.
โ Crap! What is this?... It turns out that the creatures can still fly, like me. I have to be very careful. โ he thought to himself and waited for someone to answer him. So far, only waiting beeps could be heard. โ Come on, pick up the phone!
โ Unfortunately, all our lines are busy! Please leave your message after the signal. โ said the answering machine.
โ Clear! The police won't help. Let's try calling the FBI. โ Tails said to himself and dialed the FBI number. After a couple of beeps, the answering machine answered him again:
โ Sorry! All our lines are busy!
โ Clear! Maybe G.U.N. will they respond and help? โ the fox suggested and dialed the number of the military organization. The answering machine responded immediately:
โ Hello, you have called the military organization G.U.N. If you want to...
โ Zero. โ Tails immediately pressed the desired number, since he knew that the answering machine would speak and that he needed to press so that the military would come to the rescue. Only the answering machine spat at him here too:
โ Unfortunately, we cannot come to your aid, since we are all busy with a military special operation. Goodbye! โ the answering machine said and hung up.
โ This canโt be! It can't be that G.U.N. didn't pick down the phone. โ the fox became worried.
Realizing that no one was answering and no one would help, the desperate fox began to descend back into the fog. It went down slowly at first. Suddenly, that winged creature returned and flew straight towards him. He's about to grab it. Fortunately, the fox realized in time to make his tails freeze and he fell sharply down, and a monster with wings flew over him and missed, clicking his teeth. The predator decided not to let his prey go, but also flew down after him. Finding himself almost at the very ground, Tails again flew on his tails and ran into the store. The monster with wings managed to slow down in the air and flew back up. All the people in the supermarket saw this creature and were scared by its appearance.
โ God, what is this?
โ I told you so! And you didnโt believe me! โ said Wade.
โ These are all the tricks of the Devil! โ says Mr. T.
โ Don't run into Sonic! โ Mad Karl reproached him.
โ What does the blue hedgehog have to do with it? I'm talking about Satan himself, you old fool. โ Mr. T insulted him in response.
Tails took a breath and returned the gun and phone to their owners.
โ Tails, what was that? โ Sonic asked him.
โ I donโt know myself. Something big and flying. It tried to eat me. โ Tails explained.
โ Did you manage to get through to anyone? โ Tom asked.
โ Nope. โ the fox answered honestly. โ Not the FBI, not the police, not even G.U.N. they don't answer.
โ But how is this possible? โ Wade didnโt understand.
โ I donโt know, but nevertheless... โ before he could finish, a shock was heard from the ceiling. Apparently that winged creature did not fly away, but landed on the roof of the supermarket. Everyone fell silent from fear.
โ It's upstairs! Everyone be quiet and don't make noise! โ said one of the women.
Everyone fell silent and tried not to make noise. Every five seconds you could hear the monster making a noise of tremors from there.
โ What does it do? โ Knuckles whispered in Tails' ear.
โ I donโt know myself.
The monster calmed down and stopped scaring everyone in the supermarket. Then he apparently flew away.
โ O! It seems to have flown away. โ Maddie was delighted.
โ Yes, but now it knows that we are here. โ Knuckles said.
โ Well done, idiot, you brought this creature here. โ one of the men scolded the fox.
Sonic pounced on that brute, grabbing him by the folds of his T-shirt and hissed through his teeth:
โ Donโt you dare accuse my friend of something that is not his fault. That giant mantis also saw us hiding in the supermarket and left, knowing that we were here. But this doesnโt mean that he will try to get here to us. Next time you want to blame my family, count your teeth, because I will start knocking them out of you for this.
After the threats, the hedgehog jumped off the man and walked away.
โ Whether you like it or not, it looks like weโre stuck here forever. The main thing is that we need to protect ourselves. โ said the fox.
โ Calmly! First you need to frame the windows with drawers or something else heavy! โ suggested the woman who had finished painting the last window. โ If the creatures still realize that they can easily break through the window, then we will all feel bad here.
โ Get out, feminist! โ Mr. T waved his hand at her.
โ Shut up already! โ Crazy Carl threw a can of corn at him. โ Throwing stones at people is not a sin, if anything.
โ Do everything she says and donโt argue! โ said Tom.
