At the same time
In the middle of the night at home, David's toys took out a large flashlight and, shining it on the lawn near their house, tried to find Silver, where exactly he could have fallen. They noticed one bush moving and shined a light on it. — Guys, it seems we found him. — said Neg. — SILVER!!! SILVER, IT'S YOU!!! — Vector shouted, but only a stray Chihuahua dog was hiding in the bushes, which immediately ran out of there, chewing an old chicken leg bone from the trash heap. — BOBIK!!! GET OUT OF HERE!!! YOU ARE INTERFERING WITH OUR RESCUE OPERATION!!! — the toy cat immediately shouted at the living dog, and the latter obediently left. At that moment, David’s parents’ car was already visible on the road. Having noticed them, the toys immediately turned off the flashlight until they were noticed. When they parked near the garage, David got out first and spent a long time looking for something in the back seat and in the trunk. — Mom, dad, have you seen Sonic? — he asked them. — No, where did you leave it? — asked the father. — Here in the car. — David answers. — Well, that means he should be there. You just didn't search well. — Mom suggested. — He's not here, mom. Sonic is missing. — the boy answered. All the toys gasped at what they heard. — Sonic disappeared? — asked Amy. — Clearly, the coward ran away. — Eggman suggested. — Yes. Surely he was with Shadow for the same thing and, out of shame, decided not to return to us. — thought Boko. — You think correctly. — Deco confirmed. — Oh, shut up! — Bokkun cursed. — Do not quarrel! There must be an explanation for everything. Maybe he himself got lost by accident. Well, I don’t know, it fell out somewhere along the way. Maybe they drove too fast, were in a hurry and he accidentally flew out. — Rouge suggested. — I believe her. This version is very likely at seventy-two percent. — Metal answers. While the toys were returning to the chest and discussing on the way why Sonic was not in the car, only Amy remained near the window and looked into the distance, thinking about Sonic, Shadow and Silver. Blaise stood next to her, placing a hand on her shoulder. — Oh, Blaze! I hope they're okay? Meanwhile, Oscar and his backpack were returning to his home on foot. He walked along the road, whistling some song. He was simply happy, and besides winning a squeaky toy from the machine, he also got three toys for the price of two cans of cola. The backpack was not completely closed, so the toys could see everything that was happening outside. — Guys, I see our house! We'll be at David's soon! — Silver rejoiced quietly so that Oscar would not hear him. Meanwhile, the toy chao, which the boy pulled out of the machine gun with his claw, began to say something in a language that only he could understand. — Can you be quieter?! — asked Sonic, who was already completely fed up with Silver’s naivety. — You don’t understand anything! If we end up at Oscar's house... We will never return home... Meanwhile, Silver noticed how the boy turned towards the house and, approaching it, began to climb the steps. A dog barking could be heard outside the door. — Hurricane, be quiet! Sit! — Oscar said in a rough voice, when the dog almost demolished the owner with a bark when he just opened the door. Despite his poor upbringing, the dog obeyed the order, but did not stop growling. — Good boy! And I have something for you... — with these words the bully reached into his backpack. The toys barely had time to freeze before Oscar took out a toy chao and placed it on the Rottweiler's nose. — At the start, attention, up! — the boy commanded, after which the dog threw the chao off his nose and, picking up his mouth, began to shake his head, trying to tear it into pieces. The hedgehogs looked at this from their backpack and shook with fear, because someone could be in the place of this chao. Shadow was the most afraid of all, because one day he almost found himself torn to pieces. — Stephanie! Hey Stephanie! — the boy shouted, after which a girl about 10 years old came down to him, with a doll in her hands. — What's happened? — Did I receive a parcel? — the bully asked more calmly. He seemed to be friendlier to his older sister than to anyone else. — I don't know. Stephanie responded with complete indifference. She didn’t care about any parcel or letter for her brother. Moreover, she was one hundred percent sure that this was due to his hooliganism. — So how come you don’t know? — Oscar clearly didn’t like this answer. — I don't know! — the sister said syllable by syllable so that her brother would eventually get it. She didn't lie to him. Stephanie didn't know if the postman came while the boy was away. — Oh, Stephanie, look at Ginger! She broke her arm! Now she will have to undergo surgery. — With these words, the boy snatched a doll that resembled Barbie from his sister and rushed up the stairs. — “Not to Oscar’s room, not there!” — Sonic and Shadow whispered, hoping that it would work. — Oscar, give Ginger to me! Oscar! — the girl screamed, running after her brother. But the boy, despite the big difference in height and age, ran faster than his older sister and escaped from her by slamming the door of his room in her face. Stephanie had no choice but to scream and bang on the door. — The patient is seriously ill! Prepare the operating room. — the hooligan spoke to himself, imagining himself as a surgeon, while laughing disgustingly and creepily. Turning on the light bulb hanging above his desk, Oscar took out a toolbox and a mask. Sonic and Shadow, hiding in a backpack, could not watch this, only Silver slightly dared and, out of curiosity, watched what this hooligan was doing with the doll. — The patient is ready for surgery! This is the world's first replacement of a fracture with a prosthesis. — Oscar takes Donkey Kong out of a plastic box with a checkered pattern. — And now the hardest part! Forceps! — “It’s unlikely that he graduated from medical school with honors.” — Silver thought warily about the boy. Oscar tore Donkey Kong's paws out, then took out both of the doll's hands and taped Donkey Kong's paws to them instead. — Doctor, you did it! — Oscar said to himself with joy, threw his backpack on the bed and walked towards the door, which his sister was almost trying to break down. — Oscar, if you don’t open it now, I’ll break the door. — she shouted outside. — There’s no point in shouting like that, Stephanie! — he calmly answered her, opening all the locks on the door and allowing her to enter, after which he gave her the doll back. — Ginger is better now. Stephanie picked up her favorite doll and when she saw what her little brother had done to her favorite toy, she got angry. — O-o-oh, yo-o-ou BASTA-A-ARD! — she swore out loud and really wanted to, in all seriousness, catch her little brother and kill him. Throwing her doll onto the floor, she tried to grab Oscar by the shoulders, but the boy managed to dodge, tripped her, ran past her out the door and ran to the first floor, shouting: — MOM!!! DAD!!! — HE'S LYING!!! EVERYTHING HE TELLS YOU IS NOT TRUE!!! — Stephanie shouted after her, slamming the door behind her. The danger has temporarily passed, Sonic and Shadow, following Silver, poked their heads out slightly and first of all drew attention to the armless Ginger, who was lying on the floor, and Donkey’s paws next to her. Shadow was very frightened by what he saw. Since he was all fabric and fluff inside, he imagined that his hands would also be torn off and grabbed his shoulders with them. Sonic at this time looked around Oscar's entire room. There were posters of villains and monsters everywhere. For example, two posters with Aku from “Samurai Jack” and Lord Hater from “Wander Over Yonder” hung above the bed, and on the posters they looked more creepy than in the animated series. Somewhere on the table where Oscar moved his hands there was a toaster with plastic hands inside, and on the bedside table for books, someone’s toy head hung on a chain as a keychain on one of them. There was some kind of foam on the nightstand next to the exit door. Apparently this used to be some kind of toy that was put in a microwave oven and heated up. — “We will all die.” — Shadow thought. — I'm leaving here! Running out of the backpack, Shadow ran across the bed, jumped onto the shelf, which was barely holding on and twitching from his steps, moved onto the bedside table, which was also wobbly, jumped onto the door handle and tried to turn it, but it did not open. Sonic ran up to him, grabbed him by the legs and tried to help him unlock the door with his pressure. But the handle still wouldn’t budge. — Closed! — he said to himself, the black-scarlet one, and jumped to the floor along with the blue one. — There must be another way out of here! Suddenly the hedgehogs noticed the darkness under the table, from where a broken wheel from a toy car rolled out, rolled around the chair and fell. Trying not to panic, Sonic and Shadow armed themselves, picking up one marker each that was lying on the floor. Deciding to use them as whipping sticks, they slowly approached the darkness to see what was hiding there. Suddenly, a figure suddenly ran past Sonic, taking Shadow with it. The blue hedgehog turned back and, speechless, tried to say something: — A-a-ah... Silver?... Wa-as that you?... But it was not Silver who ran past, but some stranger who pounced on Shadow and rushed like a bullet under the bed, pressing the black-and-scarlet one to the wall and covering his mouth. — Sh-h-h... Hush, ultimate life form. Otherwise we will be discovered. — whispered the one who grabbed him. Shadow was able to see him and realized that it was Gerald. The same one that Silver saved from Oscar this afternoon. — There’s danger at every step here. I'll take my hand away now, but if you scream, we're done for. Clear? — the doctor allegedly asked his creation, but Shadow basically understood everything and nodded in response, because he could not speak because of his hand on his mouth. Gerald, having received the answer, removes his hand. — Gerald Robotnik saw terrible, very terrible things that Oscar did. After that I realized that you need to change positions more often, otherwise they will find you. The only thing that keeps me from losing heart is the hope of ending up in the hands of Father Oscar. At least for the last time. Would you like some advice? Stay out of sight and out of sight of Oscar or other members of his family and you will live longer in your usual appearance. — At that moment something shone on them and Gerald panicked: — OH NO!!! WE WERE DETECTED!!! — Hush, hush, it's me! — Sonic whispered, taking out a flashlight instead of a felt-tip pen, which he shone under the bed, hearing the doctor’s whispering voice. The latter ran out from under the bed, grabbed his hand and dragged him along. — Do you know him? - he turned to Shadow, regarding Sonic. — Yes. This is my friend. And there's another one above the bed. — the black and scarlet one answers. — Well, when the four of us are perhaps the only ones left more or less normal, we will survive together. — We need to leave this house and return home to our owner. — Sonic explained, and the doctor grabbed him by the neck and turned his gaze to the same armless doll with Donkey Kong hands lying on the floor. — This is what happens when someone in this house tries to run away from home. Oscar will find you everywhere, you know? You can’t come to an agreement with him, you can’t hide from him anywhere, and he won’t stop until he breaks you, just like he tried to break me. Thanks to your friend by the way. If it weren't for him, Oscar would have blown me away. — he said and heard someone creaking. — Sh-h-h-h. Listen! The creaking became louder and it came from next to them. Shadow took out Sonic's flashlight and shined it on the place where the sound came from. A hybrid toy stood in front of them. The body and legs resembled a beetle, the arms were iron, like a robot and with claws, and the head was like Mario. — Oh, monster! — The black-scarlet one was scared. — Calm down, let's go up to bed. They won't touch us there. — said the doctor, and they threw the lantern on the floor and rushed out from under the bed, starting to climb upstairs. Sonic and Shadow stood up, but Gerald managed to grab the dynamite, which was still tied to his back. Trying to hold on to the edge of the bed with his hands, he managed to shout out with the last of his strength: — FORGET ABOUT ME!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!! A-A-A-a-a-a-a... — his screams immediately died down as he was dragged back under the bed. Suddenly other mutilated toys began to emerge from under the corners. In the box, instead of a devil, there was a glove that crawled behind its comrades, the torso of a masked racer stuck out on the skateboard, the third toy resembled the Mountain, because the torso resembled the body of Mario himself, and on top was sewn the torn torso of his brother Luigi with two more arms, and instead The head was the head of a Snake Eyes figure from G.I. Joe. Walking over to the armless doll on the floor and Donkey's hands, they picked them up and also dragged them under the bed. And on the table, the torn off hands of the doll and the armless Donkey Kong were picked up by two more of the same ugly toys. One resembled a spider made of iron with the head of a Donald Duck duckling, and the second had the torso and arms of a jock, instead of legs there was a spring, and the head was made of a spool of thread. — They are cannibals! — Silver suggested and, together with the two hedgehogs, hid back in the backpack, after which they closed themselves tightly in it, hoping that they would not be found or caught here.Chapter 7: Big Trouble

The melody was coming to an end, when the driver managed to get to the cafe at the last moment and abruptly stop near it in the parking lot.
♪ People will decorate their holiday with you only for a few days ♪
♪ And they leave you to die on a white, cold window ♪
Silver, fastened with his seat belt, began to look around. There were several tables in front of the cafe so people could sit outside in good weather. The building itself was a fairly large building, with a tiled roof and yellow walls. Music played inside to entertain visitors. A couple of meters away, there was a huge sign that glowed in the dark.
— It seems this is the “Golden Bird”. — thought Silver. At that moment, the driver turned off the engine and quickly jumped out of the car, while grabbing boxes of pizza from the back seat and miraculously not noticing the toy in the car. Silver immediately unfastened and rushed to the trunk.
— Sonic, Shadow, where are you?! — the hedgehog called his friends.
— I'm here! — Shadow responded, crawling out from under the pizza box. Sonic appeared only when the medical kit came off from him. When driving fast, all the things in the trunk began to move in different directions. Sonic was pinned under a car first aid kit, and Shadow ended up under an empty box.
— Guys... does anyone have any ideas on how we can get inside? - asked the blue one, having recovered a little from the shaking. Silver looked around and saw boxes of French fries and cola cups, an idea came to his mind. Silver put a box of French fries on himself, and Sonic and Shadow were hiding in the cups. They first stood behind the door, which fortunately had a mechanism that automatically opened and closed when visitors passed or exited nearby. When a couple of men came out of the cafe and the doors had not yet closed, toys disguised as boxes and cups got inside.
— Damn, there’s some strange sauce on my leg. — Silver said as he ran.
As soon as they reached the middle, five boys ran past and before their eyes they immediately froze, waiting for them to run past.
— Faster, to the rocket! — said one of them.
When the danger was over, they moved on. Taking cover under the waiters' counter, they emerged from their hiding places and began looking around for David and his parents. But so far there were only strangers everywhere. Silver was so captivated by the café itself that he even forgot about searching. After all, the cafe had everything. Or almost everything. Gaming arcade machines with various games from punching villains' faces to shooting games. An opportunity to take a photo with the three-meter figure of the autobat Bumble Bee, who turned his head left and right, while he himself stood still. And also vending machines, an attraction in the form of a van that twitched, and everyone inside screamed joyfully as if they were flying in an airplane, even toilets divided into men, women and orderlies.
— This is a cafe, I understand. — he said out loud, not believing his eyes, and lightly pushed his friends on the shoulders. — Well done!
— Mom, dad, can I float in the lemonade rocket, a? Please! — suddenly Sonic heard someone’s familiar voice, which he had known for a long time. He poked his head out slightly, turned his gaze to the left and saw them.
— David! - he said and even Shadow noticed him.
— Lemonade rocket? What kind of rocket did he mean? — Shadow thought.
— She doesn't exist. This is just an advertising gimmick to attract tourists, which, strangely enough, also had an effect on children from the Motherland. — Sonic explained.
Silver, at this time, deaf to their words, noticed that one of the workers put a new pack of cans of soda water into the vending machine, chatted with his brother and they both did not notice, like some naughty child at the age of two climbed in, right past them and they accidentally locked him inside. Although Silver was a toy that should not be alive in public, he could not stupidly stand on the sidelines and watch how children suffer and no one notices. He dared to run into the vending machine and rescue the child from there. And David and his parents were walking towards the exit at that time.
— That's it, Silver, they're going to the car. Let's follow them! — said Sonic and just got ready to put on the cups for disguise together with Shadow when they noticed that Silver was running almost in front of everyone to the vending machine. Even Shadow screamed at what he saw:
— SILVER!!!
And the last one runs to the compartment from where cans for coins are rolled out and, climbing inside, crawls to the top.
— D’OH!!! — Sonic shouted, like Homer Simpson, raising his hands to the top and looking out to the exit, where David and his parents had already gone out and left the cafe. — NO!!!
— It's simply not possible! — Shadow was indignant, holding his trembling hands unclenched with anger, and he and Sonic decided to run after him to the machine.
Meanwhile, the child had already realized that something was wrong. began to try to get out, touching the glass with his hands, but then he sat down on the floor and began to cry, realizing that his mother was not around. Silver, hiding behind a metal wall and looking out of a small hole, could not calmly listen to the children's crying. The hedgehog was about to run up to the child and try to help, when someone immediately grabbed him by the leg. Silver screamed in fear, because he thought that people had noticed him. Turning his head, he realized that it was Sonic and Shadow.
— Silver, are you crazy?! We can't get in the child's sight! — Sonic hissed angrily so as not to be heard.
— I can’t let this baby suffer! We must help him. — answered the silver one, trying to free his leg, but Sonic grabbed on tighter.
— Silver, you idiot! His parents are probably already looking for him! So they can do without your heroism! — said Shadow and began to pull his comrade back together with Sonic. Silver tried to resist and kept his fingers on the edge of the iron wall, slowly falling back. The child stopped crying at that moment, having heard someone’s grunts and screams behind the wall and noticing someone’s small plastic fingers on some iron wall, he walked up there and took it in his hand. He pulled it and pulled out the white hedgehog himself, along with the blue and black-scarlet ones, who were holding the white one by the legs. But at the same time, all three pretended to be inanimate.
By that time the baby had stopped crying and wanted to play with these toys. It was the blue and black hedgehog that caught his attention, which he picked up, unhooked from the white one, and began to dance with them on the floor and move them back and forth. This was just right for Silver. While the child was distracted by them, Silver managed to climb up the gears and springs to a lever that looked like a door handle and had an entrance for a keyhole. There was, of course, no handle on the outside other than the keyhole, but as soon as Silver grabbed it and pulled, the vending machine door immediately opened.
— Billy, where are you? — someone’s voice called from outside and the baby, hearing his mother’s voice, ran out of the machine outside, throwing Sonic and Shadow to the sides, leaving them inside the machine. The draft door then closed and slammed itself. The baby ran up to his mother in his arms. — Oh, here you are! Go home!
— Are you really?... — Shadow twirled his index finger near his head.
— Come on! He at least held you in his arms and played with you a little. I think now your souls will be a little satisfied. — Silver chuckled slightly.
— We swear, Silver, as soon as we get home, we’ll break you ourselves. — Sonic snapped and climbed through the iron wall to climb back out of the machine outside. Silver followed him, and Shadow at that moment was distracted by the boy through the glass door, who was walking straight to the machine. Noticing the image of a demon on his shirt and looking closely at his face, he immediately recognized him.
— Oh no, Oscar! — he said to himself and grabbed Silver by the shoulders, preventing him from sliding down. — Stop!
Oscar at that moment put ten rubles into the coin receiver and was waiting for a can of sparkling water to fall out to him. At that moment, one of the cans inside moved and rolled down this very slope, pushing Sonic in front of it out faster. He immediately flew out and Oscar picked him up from the floor.
— What are those other toys in the soda vending machines? Bonus or what? - he asked himself and out of curiosity took out another coin of the same type to check it again. Well, for one thing you can get at least one more can of the same kind for the road.
— What’s wrong with you, Shadow, I thought we were... the white one wanted to say something, but the black-scarlet one began to be rude:
— Shut up, it's all your fault. You decided to climb in here and... — he didn’t have time to finish, when again he heard the passage of a coin inside and another can rolled on top of them, which pushed Silver behind it, and Shadow tried to hold him back. But the can of soda water was so heavy that Shadow was holding onto the edge of the iron wall with one hand and holding Silver's hand with the other. — Silver, hold on!
— Yes, I’m holding on anyway! The main thing for me is that you hold on. — he told him.
But it’s true. Shadow Spruce held onto the edge of the iron wall with his plush fingers. The can was heavy and the wall was sharp, so even by the sound it was easy to tell how Shadow was beginning to tear.
— I... I... I can’t... I can’t resist... — he groaned and fell off the edge with his fingers, rolling out with Silver and the can.
— What a joke! Double prize! — Oscar was delighted, put two cans of soda and three toy hedgehogs into his backpack, closed them tightly there and spoke to himself as he left the cafe. — Let's go home and play!
Notes:
From the co-author: The most interesting thing is that a cafe called “Golden Bird” really exists.
Author's Note: Yes. It also exists in Khabarovsk, although there it is called a little more affectionately in a diminutive sense. By the way, initially the chapter was supposed to be named after the cafe, but since only half of the chapter is devoted to the cafe itself, I decided to change the name.
