Chapter 4: New Problems

The next morning, when David woke up early and went to the bathroom to wash, all the toys except Shadow came out of the chest at once, and Shadow was the last one to get out. Having opened the lid of the chest, he climbed out and, inhaling fresh air, said:
— Finally. — he said, and then got out.
— Well, guys. It seems that David trusted me completely and accepted me into your family league of imaginary games. He even wrote his name on my leg. — Silver said and raised his right foot, showing David’s name written in marker on the sole.
— Wow, and he wrote it with a permanent marker? — Espio praised, and Shadow could only endure it all, looking at him and clenching her fists.
— Shadow and Sonic have exactly the same ones on their soles, if anything. — Eggman reminded, and Shadow raised his right foot to see the same name of David on it, and on the other sole of his left foot was the name of his mother, that is, Lili. Looking at these names, he became sad and sighed heavily.
— Don’t worry so much, Shadow! — Rouge approached him.
— Uh... What? I don't... What are you talking about? Who? — black and scarlet man pretended to know nothing and was calm.
— Of course, David is absolutely delighted with Silver, but in his life, I’m sure there is always a special place for you.
— Well, yes. — Sonya answered, passing by. — For example, in the attic... Besides, it’s not boring there... There is an old TV, Christmas tree decorations and much more.
— I'm over it! That's it! — he said to himself and approached Silver just as he was going to play the fourth part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with Cream on the new game console. The black-scarlet approached, took him by the shoulder and stopped him, speaking: — Listen, you naive Silver! Don't meddle with David! It's clear? He is mine and no one can take him away from me!
— What, what are you talking about? — Silver didn’t understand him.
— A! Well, so you're looking for trouble? — he asked and hit his right palm with his left fist. Silver at this moment, realizing what was going on, replaces his naive face with a stern one. Shadow prepares to grab him, but Silver bends down, grabs him from below and, with all his strength, throws him out of the window. Fortunately, this did not happen in reality, because Shadow simply imagined it. But in fact, he still stood in place, holding Silver in the same way, and he gently shook him.
— Shadow? Shadow! — he tried to wake him up and the latter came to his senses. — What did you want to talk to me about?
— A! I! I! Sorry, Silver! I was wrong then, I apparently got carried away, that’s all.
— I don't understand. - Silver answers and Shadow quickly began to come up with lies on the fly:
— Ever since you came to us, my friend disappeared at that moment.
— Girlfriend? Which?
— Doll Maria Robotnik. It was in a trash can in the kitchen and is still there. She can't get out of there. I asked many people to help me save her, but no one wants to help me. This made me grumble for two days.
— Doesn’t David’s mom take out the trash from the kitchen every day? — Silver asked and Shadow continued to lie:
— He takes it out. The whole thing just happened in such a way that she fell there when the bucket was not covered with new garbage bags. They cover it with new ones every day and it still lies there and collects dust. Because of this, she will not get out of there. Please, Silver, all hope remains only for you. Help me save her!
— Okay, okay, calm down! I will help you. Just tell me where this trash can is and we will free her!
— Behind me! — Shadow answers and he and Silver leave the room, go down the steps from the second floor, walk quietly past the door to the bathroom, enter the kitchen and open the doors of the kitchen drawer with the kitchen sink. Inside was a trash can with a lid and a button. — It’s there, at the very depths under the package. I'll open the hatch, and you climb inside and find her.
— Understood. — Silver answers and, grabbing the edges of the tank, climbs onto it. Shadow, pressing the button below the tank, opens its hatch and Silver jumps inside. Shadow's plan works successfully and he moves away from the button and closes the tank.
— “Ha! Just as you were so naive in the games and in the TV series, you remained naive as a toy. Now you'll never get out of there." — he thought at first and heard him knocking inside and crawling down among the garbage. Then the sound of a bag being torn was heard and Silver shouted:
— SHE IS NOT HERE!!! APPEARSLY IT HAS ALREADY BEEN TAKEN OUT. I'M AFRAID WE'RE LATE, SHADOW!!! I'M REALLY SORRY!!!
At that moment, footsteps of heels were heard in the kitchen and Shadow hid behind the cleaning supplies. David’s mom opened the doors and, opening the tank, pulled out a garbage bag with a hole in the bottom through which scraps, stubs and a few drops of unfinished juice fell.
— Oh, damn. Apparently it was torn inside. — she thought out loud and took out a new garbage bag to cover the torn one underneath. At that moment, she accidentally noticed a glow inside the garbage. She became curious about what was glowing there? After rummaging lightly among the garbage, she found Silver himself among the scraps. — Hey! How did you get here? - she asked him, taking it out of the pile of garbage. — It’s good that David didn’t see you, otherwise he would have decided that I was supposedly going to throw you out. Let's give you a good wash, otherwise you're so dirty. — she suggested, turning on the water from the tap, taking a kitchen rag and slightly wet it, and then squeezing out the excess water, she began to lightly wash Silver’s toy from traces of dirt, scraps and juice. After washing it began to shine like a mirror in the literal sense. - Here you go. Now you're as good as new.
Shadow, looking at this, hit himself on the forehead and grumbled to himself, because, through the fault of his previous mistress, his plan to get rid of Silver went down the drain, in the figurative sense of the word. And at this time, David’s mother first carried the garbage bag, leaving it on the road among a couple of other garbage bags that the garbage truck should come and pick up, and she took Silver back to her son’s room, placing it on the nightstand, next to Blaze.
— Sometimes it seems to me as if you really start to come to life and want to carefully examine our entire house while we don’t see you. — she told him, as if he could hear her, and then she left the room. Silver and Blaze came to life at the same time after she left.
— Phew, I almost got caught. I hope at least Shadow managed to escape? — he was worried about the black and scarlet one.
— And where have you been? — Blaze asked.
— Here's the thing. Shadow was in grief. Maria Robotnik was left in a trash can in the kitchen, he told me. I agreed to help him save her. But as soon as I climbed inside and looked for everything there, inside the bag and under it, I realized that we were late and it had probably already been thrown away. — Silver explained. Blaze knew very well that no Maria had ever been with them and that Shadow was in vain trying to lure Silver into a trap so that he would be thrown out, but fortunately nothing came of it. The cat smiles and answers him briefly:
— Naive! We didn't have any Mary.
— How was it not? — Silver didn’t understand. — Shadow said that... Shadow! — he suspected something was wrong and at that moment the latter returned to the room. Suddenly, someone’s laughter was heard outside the window and all the toys, except Silver, who still knew nothing, fell into a stupor. Cream even grabbed her ears in fear and hid under the TV stand.
— Oh no! Not him! — Sonic said, recognizing this laugh very well.
— This is Oscar... — Cream didn’t notice how her voice became even thinner than usual.
— I thought he was visiting his grandparents! — said Bokkun, who was surprised and scared at the same time, like all his friends. All the toys knew that David’s neighbor’s parents had sent him to live with their relatives and he was not supposed to be there for several months. Needless to say, how happy the toys were when the boy left. All the toys then breathed a sigh of relief, because he was not quite an ordinary child. He had a special attitude towards toys...
— Looks like he was taken from them earlier this year. — Espio replied, jumping onto the table with Sonic, Shadow, Amy, Blaze and Tails. They all watched as a boy, about the same age as David, threw stones at some kind of toy, thereby depicting the attack of the enemy who had attacked a company of soldiers. True, instead of a whole company, there was only one toy, which was not even dressed in military uniform. Instead, she was wearing a robe similar to what scientists or doctors wear. The toy itself looked like Eggman, only with a gray mustache.
— Stay where you are, Lieutenant! You heard?! I won't repeat the order twice! — the boy said, portraying both the commander of his soldiers and the commander of his enemies.
— Who is he ordering? Tails asked, trying to look at the toy.
— I can't see it. Too far. — Amy answered, squinting hard.
— Let me. — Eggman said, climbing up to the guys and taking out binoculars. Having looked closely, he realized who it was and said sadly: — Oh, no... It’s Gerald Robotnik...
— What's happening? — Silver intervened, sincerely not understanding why everyone was alarmed.
— This has nothing to do with you, Silver! We can handle it ourselves! — Shadow hissed displeasedly, after which dissatisfied faces stared at him again.
— We still have to take a look. - Silver decided to ignore the black-scarlet’s words and took the binoculars from Eggman. The villain at first wanted to be outraged by such impudence, but then he realized that it would be better if the hedgehog found out what was happening. — Who tied the toy to the explosive device?! — the newcomer was surprised, noticing something on the back of the toy that resembled a smoke bomb.
— It is he. Oscar. — Sonic answered and pointed his binoculars in the other direction.
— Wow, so angry! — said the silver one, after which Sonic himself looked into the surveillance device and realized that he had accidentally targeted the Rottweiler, who had been barking at the toy all this time and was trying to attack it, but he was restrained by the chain with which he was tied to the barn.
— No no! This is Hurricane. Here's Oscar. — blue one corrected himself and changed the angle of the binoculars, to a boy in a T-shirt with the image of a demon. The guy himself at this time was pretending to laugh evilly and it was clear from his face that it brought him pleasure.
— That happy cheerful boy? — Silver clearly did not understand the reason for the general panic. To him it was just a normal kid having fun.
— Happy cheerful boy?! How can you call someone who mutilates toys for fun funny?! — Eggman was indignant and snatched his thing from the hands of his comrades. — He is angry and cruel.
— Yep Yep! — Cream intervened. — He breaks and tortures toys just to have fun.
Oscar at that moment picked up a brick and threw it with all his might next to the toy Gerald, thereby pretending to attack from a tank.
— Damn it! He throws bricks. — Silver was indignant, noticing this and standing on the edge of the window.
— What are you doing, get out of there! — Amy managed to catch it with her hammer.
— Calmly! I just want to teach him a lesson. — Silver explained and with his right hand he turned over his left hand, on the reverse side of which there was a mini-slingshot with a strong thread. — Does anyone have anything sharp, like a dart, that you wouldn’t mind? But not the dart itself! — he asked and Sonic handed him a long old and rusty nail. Mounting it on his slingshot arm, he aimed it at Oscar.
— Do you want to kill him or what? — Blaze was scared.
— No. I'll just leave him a small wound so he knows. — the toy hedgehog explained and waited for the boy to approach the toy and decide to blow it up. Oscar at that moment had already approached the toy and took out his matchbox.
— Silver! — Eggman began to panic.
— It is too early. — the first one answers and is still waiting for the right moment.
— Silver! — Eggman panicked even more.
— It's early! A-a-and... — he answers, and when Oscar has already lit a match and is preparing to bring the flame to the dynamite fuse, Silver presses the shot button on the same hand and shoots. — Gotcha!
The nail hits Oscar right in the palm, causing him to throw the burnt match to the side, and he grabs his wounded hand, screams heart-rendingly and even swears. He even fell to the ground, curled up into a ball in pain. Gerald came to life at that moment and looked around, as if he didn’t understand what was happening.
— COME ON!!! RUN, GRANDPA!!! — Eggman shouted, looking through binoculars. Of course, Gerald's toy heard his scream and, recovering from the shock, gets up, and then runs away with the dynamite behind him.
At this time, Oscar himself took the nail out of his hand and grumbled through his tears, who could have thrown it at him? At the same time, he went home to treat his wound, and David's toys covered the window with curtains until no one from the other neighbors could see them through the windows.
— How brave you are. — Blaze praised Silver.
— Bow pafe ou ara. — Shadow mimicked her, whispering to the side and even spat there. — Ugh!
— Well, don't grumble, Shadow! — Eggman asked him. — If it weren’t for him, then...
— I could easily figure out how to save him myself. — Shadow excused himself.
— Ha. Shadow, I'd love to see this. You wouldn't even have time to get there. And even if he had, by that time Oscar would have already set fire to his dynamite fuse and you and Gerald would have fallen into the explosion crater. — Sonic joked.
—We’d better move away from here so we don’t have to live with this disgusting neighbor anymore! — Rouge thought out loud.
