Chapter 1

Settings
Professor Cha Young Min woke up because of the vibrations under his pillow and quickly took his phone out to turn off the alarm. Dawn was barely breaking outside the window, and the first sunshine had not touched the ground yet, but the sky had already coloured in light pink. Young Min looked away from the window and tried to get up, but Seung Tak wrapped his arms and legs around him and was comfortably lying on him. The resident growled in protest and smacked his lips capriciously, apparently not willing to release his prey. Professor froze because he didn’t want to wake the boy up. Just a few seconds later Young Min realized that Seung Tak was breathing deeply and sleepily. Then he carefully took his hand and leg away and sat down on the edge of the bed trying to find the clothes. Fortunately, his things were pretty close, neatly stacked on a chair, and Young Min reached for his jeans. A bit later, when he took the hoodie, he felt the arms wrapping around his waist and the cool nose of Seung Tak poking somewhere near his hip. “Already leaving?” Seung Tak muttered sleepily. “Stay,” he drawled plaintively, tracing his lips against the bare skin and sending lots of goosebumps all over his professor’s body. “You know I can’t,” Young Min tried to answer in a firm voice, but it didn’t work out pretty well. If Seung Tak had not been so sleepy, he would certainly have taken the advantage of this weakness, but the resident just whimpered and calmed down. Young Min carefully got out of the embrace once again and put the young man on the pillow. Unable to restrain himself he bent down and touched his soft hair, brushing tufts away from his forehead. Seung Tak with closed eyes wrapped his hands around the professor’s neck and pulled him for a lazy kiss. “Little punk,” Doctor Cha whispered and left a couple of sweet kisses on his lips, but after that he stood up to put on his hoodie. He brushed his hair, picked up the phone, shoes and headed for the door, but before leaving he turned around to take another look at Seung Tak. “See you at the hospital,” Young Min said, but didn’t get an answer. He quietly opened the door and slipped out into the corridor heading for the stairs and trying to move without any sound. That was pretty new for him but with Seung Tak in his life the best cardiac surgeon had to learn a lot of new things. For example, sneaking around the house of the chairman of the Hospital Foundation, when this little punk dragged him into his bedroom in the middle of the night. Again. Charmingly smiling and saying that his house was closer and everyone had gone to bed long before. Young Min passed through a long corridor and made it to the stairs. He learnt the creaking boards and tried not to step on them. The man noticed that the kitchen door was opened and the lights were on, but he had no desire to look in to find out who had woken up so early. Moving on tiptoe, Young Min passed the kitchen, keeping to the dark side of the hallway. Now he had to walk past the dark dining room and go out the side entrance of the house, the one he usually used to leave the house. Doctor Cha got sloppy just a little and moved towards the goal he could see at the moment. “Good morning, Professor Cha,” a voice greeted him from the dining room, and Young Min almost stumbled when he heard his name. He froze in place with the feeling of his heart pounding against his chest. His face turned red and pale in just a few seconds. The desire to run to the side door was so tempting, but pride did not allow him to do it. The man swallowed and turned towards the dining room where he saw the curtains opening. The figure of the chairman became visible in the sunlight. “Good morning,” Young Min greeted back. “You’re an early bird, Professor Cha,” Go Jae Sik said with a slight grin, opened one more window to make the room brighter and walked up to the table. “Will you join me?” “Excuse me?” Young Min asked stupidly, trying to understand how angry the chairman was after catching him red-handed. “Mi Ran is away, and Seung Tak likes sleeping till lunch. I have no one to have breakfast with,” Mr. Go explained amiably. “I see it’s still a little early for you”. “I… yes, of course,” Young Min said politely and entered the dining room. The food was already on the table. The chairman walked up to the table and took a seat at the head. Cha Young Min came closer hesitantly. “Thank you for the offer,” he said with a nervous smile and bowed slightly. After a nod he put down his shoes and sat down at the table. A cup of coffee was already steaming in front of the chairman next to the soup, rice and kimchi. Young Min could barely eat right now, but he pulled himself together and took soup and coffee so not to offend the chairman. “You always leave so early that I don’t even have a chance to call you or ask you in for breakfast,” Jae Sik explained and Young Min almost spilled the coffee he was about to take a sip of. That’s it, he’s gone. A memorial march for his brilliant career was already sounding in his head. Headlines of different articles were in front of his eyes. “A brilliant cardiac surgeon seduced his subordinate resident”. “Professor Cha Young Min tried to seize the hospital by sleeping with the grandson of the chairman of the Foundation.” He had to say something. Anything. There was a simmering tension between them, but still no sign of believable excuse came to him. He couldn’t say that they were writing post-op notes in Seung Tak’s bedroom, could he? Young Min found himself sliding down the chair under the table, trying to hide from the chairman, who took the newspaper and began to read it as if nothing had happened. “How long have you known?” the doctor whispered, because the silence was too long. “For a while. I must admit, you managed to trick me with your game of an unhappy resident and an evil boss who disliked his new subordinate at first, but I know my grandson pretty well. He is not good at hiding his crushes,” the chairman said and turned the page of the newspaper, enjoying the soup at the same time. “Actually, it wasn’t a game at first…” Young Min muttered and tilted his head slightly, trying to understand the mood of Mr. Go, who showed no signs of irritation. “You aren’t mad, are you?” “Why should I?” the chairman asked with a bit of surprise, looking up from the newspaper. “Because Seung Tak is in safe hands now? My grandson is the next chairman of the Hospital Foundation, but he has no sense of duty and can be too frivolous, but with you by his side he’s getting better. I know everything about you, Professor Cha, so I’m glad that there will be a man like you with Seung Tak, who can protect both him and the hospital”. “I’m trying to do my best,” Young Min said honestly and exhaled with relief. The chairman was not going to kick him out of the hospital in disgrace and even seemed not to mind their relationship. “How’s the hospital? I’ve heard that you’re having a lot of work these days,” Jae Sik asked, changing the topic of conversation. “Nothing to be worried about. Everything is just fine. No problems with the operations as well,” Professor Cha replied. After that they had a small talk about the hospital, the latest innovations in medicine and recent news. When breakfast was over, Professor Cha took the dishes from the table into the kitchen and put them in the dishwasher. “Are you going to the hospital now, Professor Cha? Shall I order a car for you?” the chairman asked, but Young Min politely declined the offer. He didn’t have any further intentions to overuse Mr. Go’s favor. He couldn’t come to his senses after the most unusual breakfast in his life. “Thank you for the offer, Mr. Chairman, but I need to go home first. Thanks for the breakfast, everything was perfect.” “Come by for lunch sometime after Mi Ran returns. It’s time for Seung Tak to introduce you officially,” the chairman said with a short laugh. “Yes, I will,” Young Min said, picked up his shoes, backing towards the door before Jae Sik came up with something else. “By the way, Professor Cha, for God’s sake, use the front door next time.” “Sure. Thank you. Have a nice day.” Young Min bowed with a nervous smile and almost ran out of the room as the chairman laughed. Next time, Seung Tak had to stay in his apartment for the night. And even his puppy eyes and sweet smile wouldn’t lure Young Min to Seung Tak’s bedroom. Professor Cha’s heart would not bear the second breakfast like that in the morning.
