Jump 4 - High School of the Dead 13 Chapter

The swimming was great. The sun, the sea, and the yacht. The dream of many people, especially in an environment of constant struggle with zombies. Someone could object, and it would be Sebastian. It was only fair since he was… "Damn it, how boring!" he exclaimed. "Then maybe you'll turn off the autopilot?" Takashi asked him lazily. "No, then I'll have to manage the yacht myself. It's just as exhausting as being behind the wheel of a car yourself. Believe me, you don't want to drive for a whole day!" They were all lying inside the cabins. There were only two cabins inside this yacht, so it was clear that there was gender discrimination and the girls left the men's company. It sucked since he could have fun with Shizuka while the others were doing what they could do. They had been sailing for almost fifteen hours. The morning had already come, but for some reason, they didn't even see the birds. "Maybe it's fun to drive a car? I like to ride a motorcycle." "You shouldn't have rights, you're a minor." "And what? You drove yachts and a car, even though you were even younger." snorted Takashi. "Fair enough, delinquent." Coming of age in Japan came at 20, so technically they were delinquents. It sucked, since in just ten years they would lower the age of majority to 18, too late for them to ever feel it. This happened because Japan's demographics suck. Depression and overwork do not contribute to population growth, and with the working culture of this country, it took a decrease in the age of the majority to fill jobs with the right number of people. "It's strange, I haven't seen all these birds like in the movies, seagulls in the sea, and other birds and fish," Takashi said. "I don't think that's how it works. Our ship can scare fish or something like that. Although they are usually dumb enough to swim and fly near predators." "Let's go take a look, we'll get there soon anyway." Thinking they would be near Kisarazu Island soon enough, he decided to go out and nodded to Takashi. On the deck, they saw only the sun and clouds. For some reason, there were no birds. The fish were still swimming close enough to the surface. "Cuckold, you're exaggerating. Probably these feathered lumps of meat are on the island or somewhere else. They won't change the island every time for the sake of flying." snorted Sebastian. "Or they could become zombies." "But not all birds are carnivorous," Sebastian remarked. "I don't understand birds except for crows and gulls." he shrugged. Takashi was still worried about the suspicious absence of birds, which amused him for a while, but then became annoying. It was true that they were supposed to show up during the hour they spent on deck, but Sebastian was confident in himself. They sailed to the island, so he took the helm and moored. Unfortunately, he was the only one who knew how to drive water transport. "This yacht is still quite slow. If we could drive at a faster speed, we would be in Jeju by now," he said. Sebastian yawned. "I'm sleeping, and you guard the yacht. Don't wake me up until it's too dangerous to survive." 16 hours at the helm could tire any person, especially when he did not have superhuman stamina. And so their journey to Jeju continued until they were interrupted by a flash in the sky. "What is it?" Ray exclaimed. "The end, the end of electronics." "What? Is it some kind of sun glare or what?" asked Takashi hopefully. "No, it's a fucking nuclear munition. Fortunately, we got out of Nagasaki Prefecture. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a lot of explosions, since we even fried all the electronics on the way to Jeju!" spat Sebastian. "A nuclear explosion? They must be Russians! Like in the last century!" said Saeko indignantly. Sebastian stared at her. Remembering that there was no fragment of the story in their textbooks about who dropped these two bombs, he felt proud of his former country, of which he had been a citizen for more than ten years. They didn't have such a story, they wrote the story. "Russians. It must be them," said Saeko. "It doesn't matter whose bombs they were. This EMP impulse fried the electronics of the boat and now we have to stand on the water and wait until we are thrown somewhere or turned over." Sebastian drew a gloomy perspective. Of course, it was a joke. His humor was very situational and he could tell that the others believed. Inwardly, he smiled, keeping the same serious expression on his face, enjoying their suffering. After enjoying the despair on their faces, he continued. "Okay, I have telekinesis. I will control the yacht by telekinesis. We will use a globe for navigation." "Telekinesis? Is your telekinesis that strong?" exclaimed Takashi in surprise. "My telekinesis is strong enough that I can move clouds. That's a lot of water, a lot of tons of water." When he was done, he went to the cabin, locking it. After opening the warehouse, he took a globe, a compass, and a microscope for the globe. After closing the warehouse, he went on deck. Placing the globe under the microscope, he looked at his current location. The yacht managed to deviate slightly from the course, pointing its nose to another location. On the other hand, after adjusting to telekinesis, he quickly leveled off course. He went to the Korean island, which he had originally planned to get to. The others looked at him like he was crazy. He looked at the globe through a microscope and guided the yacht by the compass. It was very strange. "Why are you looking at me like that? This is not a simple globe, it shows the current Earth in direct observation. The only downside is in its scale." "Can I see it?" Saeko asked. "Look. I can navigate further by compass." he shrugged his shoulders. Leaving the toy to the teenage children and the nurse, he continued to guide the yacht. He regretted that there was also a lot of electronics in the engine, which was fried by an EMP pulse even through the entire distance from the explosion to them. Navigation didn't work either. The only working electronics was his laptop, placed in his warehouse. He didn't carry a lot of cargo with him, which surprisingly the rest of his team hadn't noticed yet. He was thinking about how they didn't notice that he took a globe, a book, a laptop, and a microscope out of nowhere. Not knowing what to think, he shrugged his shoulders. Despite all his experience of four lifetimes, he was not a psychologist and was not a social butterfly. Maybe they were just justifying it in some way. People have always been divided into two camps, those who believe in the supernatural, who see it everywhere, and those who do not believe, justifying all phenomena with science. There was a third option, similar to Fraulein Kreutun, which everyone accepts, learning from their experience. These were mostly only children, adults had already formed a worldview and it was difficult to shake it. When the others had played enough with the globe, he returned it to himself. Saeko looked a little upset, having never found her father. It was already dark when they sailed to Jeju. Everyone but him was asleep. The whole day of idleness was more exhausting than killing zombies, they had only one leisure, sleep. The island had no light sources, he did not notice a single electric light source turned on. Maybe there were people in the houses who had a diesel generator, but he doubted it. He will have to stock up on candles for the future. After waking up Takashi and Saeko, the three of them moored the ship. "I'm going to bed, don't wake me up, take it out first in case of a fire. If there is a danger, report it immediately. I'm afraid of looters." Sebastian told them. "Looters?" asked Takashi doubtfully. Saeko smiled out of the corner of her lips. Only Sebastian noticed this, because his senses allowed him to see in the dark at a close distance. "I do not doubt that many people tried to escape from the island. Not to mention the zombies, the island's infrastructure has suffered. They can't feed themselves." Sebastian nodded. There was only one chance for human survival– escape to the continent. The local population was too small to maintain the population and kill all the zombies. "So they might try to attack us?" Saeko asked the most important thing. "Our yacht has just arrived when the others are not working. There may be a lot of people hiding in the port hoping to escape. Takashi, take the rifle. If there are people... shoot to kill without words!"
