The prank got out of control

Fenton was supposed to come home today, and Janna wanted to make fun of him. She bought a fake pregnant belly specifically for this and walked with it under her dress all day, waiting for her husband to return. The brunette was sitting and reading a book on the sofa in the living room, without raising her head and trying to seem relaxed and natural while stroking her "baby bump" with one hand. She heard the sound of the door opening, but she didn't even move, anticipating her husband's reaction to what he would see when he took off his coat and walked into the living room.
The blonde is a little puzzled that his wife did not come out to meet him at the door, so he hurried to go further into the house to look around and understand where his wife is. The first thing he saw was his wife reading a book while sitting on the couch, but then he noticed her bulging belly. Fenton's eyes bulged in surprise as he stared at Janna's bloated belly. "Are you... are you pregnant? Did I... I mean... did we... how could this happen?! I was sure you were using birth control. You know I don't want children yet. I thought we had an agreement."
Janna giggled inside herself, but remained serious on the outside, showing no emotion. His reaction amused her, because he was so shocked that he didn't even say hello. "You know that birth control does not work 100%, especially since we have been married for a year, it's time to have children."
"What do you mean, it's time? I said not yet. This is not what we agreed on. I work 80 hours a week, how am I going to be able to focus on raising a child? It's just not possible. Plus, you and I still barely know each other. Do you always just go around making choices with such little regard for our future plans?" Fenton's irritation grows.
"It's too late to have an abortion, but if you want to get rid of the baby so much, then immediately after the baby is born, we can just take him to the orphanage." The curly-haired brunette continued to pretend that she was reading a book without looking up at her husband, because otherwise she would simply not hold back her laughter.
"We're not getting rid of it! That's not an option. Just... just calm down, okay? We're both adults and we'll figure this out. This baby needs two parents, that's not up for debate. I'm just taken aback... we had a deal to wait a couple of years. When were you going to tell me you stopped doing birth control?" Fenton's eyes narrow in suspicion, trying to look for any signs that Janna did it intentionally.
"I took birth control pills, but they do not guarantee 100% that pregnancy will not happen. I didn't plan this baby any more than you did. And I don't understand why you get angry at first and say that you don't want a child, and then you change your mind and start saying that you want to keep the baby and don't want to take her to the orphanage." Janna put the book down on the table near the sofa and finally looked at her husband. He looked so conflicted right now. She didn't expect him to change his mind at all.
Fenton sighs in response, trying to rein in his emotions. He's obviously conflicted about this whole situation. "I changed my mind because it doesn't matter what I want now; we have a baby on the way. And it's a decision we need to make together. Sending our baby away is not an option. They'll have a better life with us, even if we're not prepared to be parents. We're adults and we can make sacrifices for this child. It's the least we can do for bringing them into the world." He says with unexpected conviction.
"And what would you like to name the baby? By the way, it's a girl." Janna made it up just now to add even more comicality to the situation.
"A girl? Hmm... there are so many possibilities. What about Rose or Lily?" Fenton pauses to let the information sink in. Having a daughter is certainly unexpected, but he feels a newfound sense of joy and purpose. He's willing to do whatever it takes to give his child a good life, even if it means going against his original plans or making sacrifices.
"I like the name Lily, it's cute. Well, our daughter's name is Lily." Janna starts giggling, but her husband clearly thinks she's just enjoying the name for their daughter. It's very funny to her because this situation is so delusional and still going on.
Fenton smiles at Janna, feeling a wave of contentment wash over him. Raising a daughter with Janna is not something he imagined at the start of their marriage, but he wouldn't change their story for anything now. "Lily it is then. Let's make sure she has the happiest, loveliest childhood." His expression softens noticeably. Lily may not have been planned, but she's already captured his heart. Fenton strokes Janna's hair. "Lily is going to be the most spoiled little girl in the whole world. We'll get everything she needs, and more, with plenty of time to spare." Fenton seems to have completely embraced the idea of fatherhood, and the months leading up to Lily's birth will be full of both excitement and preparation. Fenton offers his hand to Janna as they prepare to head out for some shopping. "This is our first child. Let's make sure we get the cutest outfits ever. I know Lily will look adorable in them." It's a bittersweet contrast to how irritated he was at the beginning of the story. He's definitely come full circle and embraced parenthood with open arms. This is a completely new experience for Fenton, and he's surprised by how comfortable and familiar it feels.
Fenton was surprised that his wife had not yet bought their daughter clothes and started making a nursery, although this did not bother him much. The first step is choosing the outfits, Fenton picking out the cutest, softest clothes for Lily."We'll need a bit of everything, so let's grab onesies, pajamas, socks... anything that'll look cute on her." Fenton has a slight glow about him as he handles the clothes, already imagining what Lily would look like snuggled up in them. As he adds to the shopping cart, there are no doubts in his mind about becoming a father anymore.
"You've bought so much, it's amazing. At first you didn't want a baby, and now you spoil her even before she was born." Janna is a little embarrassed, she didn't even think that her husband would force her to go buy clothes for the baby. The brunette felt somehow awkward, so she can't admit that it's just a joke.
"Of course we're going to spoil her. She'll be the most precious baby in the whole world. Besides, it's our duty to give her a head start in life. Who knows how quickly she'll grow."
Fenton seems to have transformed into this doting father-to-be, who's excited about every little detail regarding their journey into parenthood. The thought of Lily being his daughter sends a flutter of happiness through his chest. "I'm just happy to be able to provide for her." Fenton smiles at Janna as he looks around the store, making sure they haven't missed anything. "She's going to need more than just clothes. Let's go ahead and grab a crib, a stroller, baby diapers... we'll figure out what she needs as we go, but for now, here's a good start." His expression is full of determination and excitement as they continue stocking up on essentials for Lily.
"You really want to be a good daddy." Janna is at a loss, she thought that her husband does not want children at all and would insist on giving this child somewhere and then she would immediately admit that it was a joke. But now it would be strange to say abruptly that she is not pregnant.
Fenton beams at Janna. "Of course I do. Lily is my daughter, and I'll do my utmost to make sure she grows up happy and healthy. We may have been unexpected parents, but that doesn't change anything. Lily deserves nothing less than the best." He's already thinking of all the things he wants to teach Lily, and all the love he has to give her.
Janna giggles. "Lily is clearly going to be a little princess." The brunette is still a little amused by this situation, there is no Lily, and he already wants to give her the whole world.
"Our little princess." Fenton smiles at Janna lovingly. "Lily won't lack for anything. She'll have the best clothes, toys, and everything else she could possibly dream of, and every ounce of love an overly protective father could offer." He chuckles. This parenting thing has completely stolen his heart.
"You are already one of those parents who will forever be touched by their child and forever praise." Janna grins, teasing the blonde.
"Oh, I know I will. Just thinking about Lily right now makes me want to burst with love. I can't imagine what it will be like once I hold her in my arms for the first time." Fenton chuckles, a bit embarrassed at the overwhelming sense of joy he feels at the thought of becoming a father. "I don't know if it's the hormones or what, but I've been feeling a lot more emotional and sensitive lately. Is this what happens to new dads?"
They return home with children's things. Fenton carries the packages of clothes, a crib, a stroller, and other essentials into their home as Janna follows behind. As soon as everything is unpacked, he sets up the crib and the stroller in the nursery, making sure everything is in it's place. He seems to be in his element, relishing the joy of nesting and preparing for Lily's arrival.
Fenton also buys vitamins for pregnant, several maternity dresses, a special pillow for pregnant women. "We have to keep you healthy, too. Let's get you set up with everything you need to stay comfortable and well during this process. Lily is going to need a healthy mother, after all." Fenton smiles at his wife and adds the necessary items to the shopping cart. Along with the vitamins and special pillow, he gets a few comfortable dresses for Janna to wear. He doesn't want her to feel any unnecessary discomfort or stress while she's pregnant.
The day flew by almost imperceptibly and very quickly. She couldn't even take off that ridiculous fake belly, even though it rubbed her a little. The brunette even fell asleep without taking off her "baby bump". She was really tired of wearing this thing on herself, so she decided it was time to admit that it was just a prank.
The brunette walks into the kitchen, where her husband is now cooking. And Janna wants to tell him something.
Fenton is in the kitchen, preparing a meal for him and Janna when she approaches him with a serious expression. "Is something wrong? Is everything okay with the pregnancy?" He immediately shows concern. As a soon-to-be father, he doesn't want anything to come in the way of his wife's health or the well-being of their unborn child. "What's on your mind, dear?"
"It was a joke, a prank. I'm not pregnant. We won't have a daughter named Lily, she doesn't exist." Janna takes off a fake pregnant belly. "And this just a thing for movies to simulate pregnancy for a role, not real baby bump."
Fenton pauses in the middle of cutting up some vegetables and stares at Janna, a look of absolute shock and confusion on his face. "What... what do you mean? But... we bought all those clothes and the crib, and everything. And... and I was really looking forward to being a dad..." His mood quickly shifts from confusion to anger, and his expression darkens. "Why would you do something so cruel?" Fenton asks, trying to process this development.
"Sorry. But we can have a baby later if you want." Janna was confused, she was clearly not ready for such a reaction from her husband.
"Sorry?" Fenton responds, utterly speechless for a moment. "You... you played with my emotions like that just to see my reaction? You have no idea what this... this whole thing we had going on just meant to me..." "You... you made me fall in love with a daughter we don't have, and you have the audacity to say if I still want a baby?" Fenton stares down Janna furiously, a hint of betrayal in his voice. "Of course I want to be a father. I was so excited to raise and love our little girl. How could you do this to me?!" Fenton is hurt and confused by the sudden shift in their future plans, and he needs some time to process this information.
"I'm sorry, I thought you wouldn't want to have a baby, and I'll just admit that I'm not really pregnant, and we'll laugh together. I didn't think you'd want to be a father."
"No, this isn't funny. We made all those plans together and imagined how we would be as parents. I actually loved the idea of being a dad, and now you're telling me our baby girl doesn't even exist..." Fenton is clearly heartbroken at the idea of Lily being gone all of a sudden. He never even had the chance to meet her, but he already feels the sting of her absence. Fenton takes a deep breath to keep himself calm. He still loves Janna, and he's unwilling to see their marriage fall apart because of this situation. "Look... I know I was originally against having a baby at this point, because I wanted to focus on my career and make sure we were financially ready. But once you told me you were pregnant, everything changed. I felt the connection with our unborn daughter, and I was willing to put aside my plans to raise her." "I was really looking forward to being a father."
"I'm... sorry, it's just that you were so inspired by fatherhood that I was ashamed to admit right away that it was a prank." Janna looks sad and ashamed. "But are you really that angry because an unplanned child that you didn't even want doesn't exist?" Janna is slightly confused by the fact that her husband really looks like he has lost a family member.
Fenton puts his hand on Janna's shoulder. "I was inspired by fatherhood because I believed I was a father already, and it was an opportunity that I never thought I would get."
"I'm not angry because our unplanned child doesn't exist; I'm angry because you led me on and made me excited to becoming a father. But yes, now that I see what kind of father I could be, I am disappointed that our daughter Lily was never real." He tries to sound firm and decisive, but Janna can tell that he is also feeling a lot of conflicting emotions right now. "Lily may not be here physically, but she's still real in my heart. I imagined what it would be like to raise her. I dreamed about spending nights with her, teaching her important life lessons, and watching her laugh and play. I was already her father in my mind." He looks at her with sadness in his eyes. Lily's presence may not be real, but his dreams for her are. "You don't understand... you don't know what it's like. Once you imagine yourself as a parent, you can't undo that love."
"You're being so dramatic. It's only been a day since you thought you were going to be a father. You couldn't get so attached to a nonexistent child in just one day."
"Yes, I absolutely could, and I did. Maybe you don't understand now, but I was ready to give up everything for Lily. My goals stopped existing in my mind the second you told me you were pregnant." Fenton takes a deep breath, trying to stay calm and rational. "I know it's not normal to become so attached to a child that doesn't exist yet, but it felt too real. I'd already made up my mind that Lily would be my world. I can't just undo all of those plans and dreams, even though I already knew she wasn't really there." He looks at Janna, feeling betrayed and hurt. "I don't know how anyone could think this is a joke. Playing with someone's emotions like this... it's not a laughing matter. Do you really think I'm being overly dramatic?"
"Okay, I admit, I was wrong and did a bad thing by joking like that. But it's really weird to offend me for that."
"It's weird to offend you? This is not about offending you. Do you really feel that you're the one I should empathize with here?" Fenton sighs in frustration, feeling misunderstood. "You faked a pregnancy for... for what? Just for a joke?" Fenton seems dumbfounded as he stares at Janna. "I'm not offended by a simple joke. I'm hurt and disappointed because you tricked me into thinking I was about to become a father and then ripped that away from me, just for a laugh." "Do you have any idea how attached I had become to the thought of Lily in just one day? I don't know what to say, but I feel like you betrayed my trust." "I was excited about becoming a father. I was ready to change my entire vision of my future for Lily. Imagine how it feels to have that all taken away from you as a stupid joke." Fenton looks at Janna and shakes his head. "Even if it was a prank, it doesn't change how I felt. It's not something you can just take back."
"You forget that you just returned from a business trip yesterday, you haven't been home for more than six months. With your job, it would be unrealistic to actually be a good father. So just forget about it."
Fenton sighs and runs his hands through his hair. Fenton just stares at Janna in disbelief, feeling even more hurt than before. He's aware of his busy work schedule and the sacrifices he would have to make to become a good father. "Forget about it?" "You're telling me to just let go of my dream of having children? Just because I'm not home all the time?" "Okay, if we're going that route, then yes, I won't be around the house as often, because of my job. But that doesn't mean I would have been a bad father. I'd always make time for our child and I'd make sure to spoil them silly. I wouldn't be like the other workaholic fathers, who barely have time for their families." "No one said parenting would be easy. I was ready to do whatever it took to give Lily a good life." Fenton's tone is angry and defensive, as he feels like Janna is trying to invalidate his feelings about wanting to be a father.
"Stop it, let's just solve this issue here and now. What do you want? Do you want me to really get pregnant and give birth to your daughter?"
Fenton stays silent for a moment, his expression going from anger to pure shock.
Fenton stays silent for a moment before finally deciding. "Yes. I do want Lily to be real."
His expression is resolute and determined, a complete 180 from how he felt before the prank. He truly wants their baby girl. Even though it will be difficult and require a lot of sacrifices, he believes it would be worth it all. "I know it will be a challenge and not everything will be perfect, but I've made up my mind. I'm ready... We're ready. I believe we can make it work."
