Notes:
The story is told on Chester's behalf.
Concert. Song. Text. Crawling. So beloved and hated at the same time, so complex but beautiful, sung on one note and in one breath. Mike said it right, “Dude, it’s gonna be a hit!” I feel it every time I sing it. I’m doing my best, I’m trying not to stray, not to mess up, everything should sound like a recording….
A second respite before a new verse and….
The hall continues to make noise, the guys play, bright, literally blinding spotlights burn, but…. What’s next? I’m silent for a couple of seconds, I start singing, trying to remember what happened next. First I turn my head to Brad, who’s playing next to me, and he obviously doesn’t know what’s going on. I turn to Mike and I’m like, “Shit, I don’t remember what happened next!” and he just nods at me like, “You know what to do.” The audience is already singing the verse for me. A couple seconds feels like an eternity. Oh, shit, okay, I’m just gonna say it. I’m nervous, I’m walking to the edge of the stage:
- I forgot the damn words, — I smile stupidly, I laugh with it, it becomes insanely easy…
The audience smiles. I turn around. Guys are laughing too, so it’s not that bad?
Yeah, it’s not that bad. Mistakes are normal. Everyone’s capable of making mistakes.
Right?
right?
