Chapter 1

Kenma doesn’t like to strain during training: sweat, which sometimes flows unpleasantly down his body, fatigue, which makes his whole body ache, then develops into a nagging pain in the muscles and, of course, the lack of the opportunity to be lazy and just play the console — all this It’s not necessary, but it’s worth admitting that in places it’s fascinating, certainly in moderation for a young man.
Wherever Kozume hides, Kuroo will catch up with him — like it or not, you’ll be almost the first to get to training. What can we say about first-year Haiba Lev, if the Russian giant decided to practice a quick one, imitating Hinata and Kageyama — listening to a million flattering “Please, senpai!” you have to see your expensive console more often than not.
Kozume generally avoids active people, fearing that they will involve him in their countless adventures. The young man is an observer, a strategist, but not some kind of damage-dealing hero who constantly looms before his eyes, exterminating his enemies, which subsequently makes him universally adored.
But no matter how much Kozume talks about it, there have been and will be his personal exceptions. The same Tetsuro, or Leo, who, although he is unnerving, Kenma still tolerates him, of course, his main sun is Hinata Shoyo, who, without realizing it, makes Kozume want to play volleyball. If you look at it this way, Kenma may be dissatisfied with anyone or anything, but the young man will not be able to give up dear people or things so easily. And yet, being among countless friends and acquaintances (no matter how much Kenma denied, he had enough of them), Kozume will look at only one person, imprinting her in his memory with amber pools, spreading warmth in his chest.
Outside the window, as if personifying his cloud of thoughts that seemed to be forever stuck in his head, a heavy downpour began, which did not stop knocking, giving its own personally composed rhythm. Soon a strong wind blew, blowing a lot of leaves and sometimes small twigs against the window. The forecast promised a strong and prolonged thunderstorm, but is it worth saying it out loud?
A golden gaze fell on her. Dark curls, which were just below the shoulder, were disheveled and constantly crawled into the eyes, then into the mouth, a wide T-shirt, which was clearly a size too big and would slide off the shoulder before the girl had time to finish the game and adjust anything. Gray-blue eyes ran across the screen while her fingers quickly pressed a variety of buttons, it seems that she herself did not know why she did not dodge the crushing blow.
- I lost again.
Kenma didn’t even notice how, without following the game at all, he won again. Even after this victory, he continued to watch her.
The girl, who was comfortably seated on the floor near the bed, threw her head back onto the bed, meeting Kozume’s searching gaze, which made the young man shudder.
- What are you doing?
Squinting, the girl began to drill into Kenma with her bottomless eyes, and after a tense silence, she laughed faintly.
- You’re strange today. Maybe it’s all about the rain?
Kozume shook his head.
- No. — I thought about it a little.- I beat you without watching the game.
After these words, Kenma shrugged his shoulders, saying that it was intended that way. In turn, the girl opened her eyes amusingly and, opening her mouth slightly, with a delay began to say everything she was thinking about, because incoherent words often flashed in her speech, which is why Kozume involuntarily raised the corners of his mouth.
- Why are you smiling? You win this game all the time! You definitely have some kind of cheats! “The girl turned her whole body on Kozuma and stuck her tongue out at him.
- You are constantly distracted. — Quite a weighty argument, but this time she was completely in the mood for the game.
- You didn’t look either. “The girl became depressed and laid her head back on the bed, moving Kenma’s free hand to her cheek, looking for affection, like a cat.
There was silence.
The weather was still raging outside, and a chaotic stream of thoughts was still spinning in Kozume’s head.
Dark hair hid her pale face, not giving a chance to catch her peaceful features. The joystick slowly fell somewhere on the bed, the freed hand, slowly and carefully, tucked the unruly hair behind the ear, revealing a view of a slightly embarrassed, but still smiling face.
Her eyes were closed, which made it possible not to be caught. He saw her every day and every day he could not take his eyes off her. Kozume was not a stalker or anything worse, but he did not want to part with his dear one even for a second.
- Shall we play for the last time? — Mischievous sparkles appeared now in sleepy eyes.
- Yes. Only I will choose another character.
Kozume didn’t like to lose, but for her sake, right?
Having settled on choosing a character, the young man was stuck and it was not at all a matter of the hero’s characteristics. She doesn’t like people giving in to her. And having known Kenma for more than a day, the girl will understand his awkward deception.
- Don’t you dare give in.
The girl immediately responded to Kozume’s thoughtful face.
She understands him no worse than Kuroo, and perhaps better.
- I won’t.
The game began after some hesitation. The characters have been chosen, and the girl is determined to win. Kenma shook his head and, freeing his head from unnecessary thoughts, completely plunged into the game.
The clicking of buttons occurred in rhythm with the rain, the girl’s rare exclamations were accompanied by quiet “ohs” when the time of day dawned on her. And after a few minutes of intense play, the girl joyfully jumped up from the floor, uttering the long-awaited “Hurray! I won!”
Kozume continued to stare at the screen, at the unfortunate inscription “Game over”, only now it seemed not as terrible as before. This loss was, surprisingly, the most necessary thing at this moment. And it didn’t all work out on purpose, it all came out just in time.
A happy smile shone on her face, giving him its light. Gentle hands touched your neck and pulled you closer to you. The collarbones were carelessly scorched by hot breath — and a pleasant hurricane of goosebumps ran across the skin. He blushed when she pulled away, silently looking into his eyes. Her blush was clearly reflected in his eyes, causing unbridled emotions.
- You lose. “She said in a whisper, approaching the young man’s face.
Kozume doesn’t like direct eye contact and seeing scrutinizing glances on himself, he always wants to hide from them, but now with her it’s completely different.
- You win.
Her lips gently touched his, it was at that moment that Kenma stopped thinking about escaping.
