A conversation with a few interruptions

Text settings
After the body had started getting healthier, life had gotten better and a lot easier for his cells, so much that they even seemed to be walking straighter, as if a weight had been lifted from them. But that still didn't mean that they had to work less, not at all, just that it was now possible to take a break now and then: leukocytes were still busy protecting the body at all times, and erythrocytes carrying oxygen and nutrients to every corner of the organism. This also included red blood cell AA2153. He was pushing a cart with an oxygen box intended to be delivered to the right foot. Since he was in the left shoulder right now, there was still a long way to go, so he stopped for a minute and took off his cap, wiping the sweat off his forehead with his hand. Wondering how his neutrophil-friend, U-1196, was doing at the moment, since he hadn't seen her for quite a while, and blushing slightly at the thought, as he realized that he was, indeed, missing her. And as if the universe had heard his unexpressed wish, he suddenly spotted U-1196 in the very blood vessel he was standing right now. She was leaning against the wall, with her arms crossed, and observing the surroundings, watching out for any trace of an enemy. The erythrocyte's eyes immediately lit up at the sight. He put his cap back on and made his way towards her with a big smile on his face. “Hello, Leukocyte-san!” She turned her head into his direction and smiled as well. “Nice to see you, red blood cell.” After having exchanged greetings and asked for each other's well-being, she suggested to accompany him for a while during his delivery in order to talk a bit more. AA was more than happy to agree. As they were walking side to side (AA2153 had to constantly remind himself to keep his eyes on the road, since he couldn’t stop staring at the beautiful leukocyte), the red blood cell wanted to know whether everything was alright at work. And right as she opened her mouth in order to tell him that it had been unusually quiet recently, a huge germ fell directly in front of them, so she had no other choice than to unsheathe her katana and rush to kill it. After a few minutes, she returned to the red blood cell, who had been waiting for her. “Well, I can’t say that it’s been quiet anymore, but it was until now,” she finally said and looked at him. “And how was your day?” AA2153 wanted to answer her question, but nope, there was another germ, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, so the neutrophil had to leave him again. But never stopping to keep an eye on him while she fought, always ready to protect him. The flood of germs didn't stop, so that neither of them was able to finish even one sentence. AA noticed that U-1196 was getting more and more irritated with every interruption, her visible eye starting to twitch. It was strange for him to see the usually calm and composed leukocyte like that, but he understood, for it seemed that the germs had chosen that time on purpose, just to disturb them. And of course, he was annoyed as well.  "Oh, holy capillaries! Why now?!" she exclaimed, standing there in her blood-stained uniform, holding her bloody sword, and being very close to saying a word that was clearly not for platelets' ears. "Uhm, if you're busy right now, we could talk another time," the erythrocyte suggested a bit shyly. She turned around to him, her gaze full of anger and frustration. "But we won't know when this next time is going to be! And…" Her cheeks turned a shade of pink. "I missed you a lot, you know…" AA's eyes widened. The neutrophil looked around in the meantime, and having made sure that there was currently no enemy in sight, she put on a determined expression, suddenly grabbed the red blood cell by the hand and pulled him into a nearby capillary. "For a bit of privacy… until the next one comes!" she explained on the way. But as she turned around to face him, she, being concentrated on AA, unfortunately didn't notice the empty tea can that had been left behind by some careless cell, and fell flat on her back… and AA2153, whose hand she was still holding… on top of her… They looked into each other's eyes, with both their faces as red as his uniform, unable neither to move nor to pronounce a word. Their conversation was completely forgotten. Outside the capillary, they could hear other neutrophils arrive to fight against the now newly appearing germs. Well, so maybe… they could stay like this a little bit longer…
